Tricky title... a lot more goes into a cinematic effect than this.. "Sony Vegas "Lens Filter Effect" and Cropping tutorial" or something to the effect is more appropriate, however for those who just cant figure out why movies look like movies, maybe this will point them in the right direction...

or easy way is set the video size to 856x480 so it fills the youtube box and goto the deform effect and the one thats squishing on the top and bottom(horizontallly). you can edit it a little to make it look like a proffesional letterbox but don't do the bars to big because it squishes the video the bigger the bars.

@fatimamusic13 ... use "real player" which is a free download .... then use it to convert the clips to a format recognised by sony vegas .

realplayer also gives you the download option everytime you open vidos or songs .... it gives a little blue bar that pops up . Very usefull rogramme !

Thx for the tutorial - I'm trying actually to find a mask object that will sit on a top layer on top of the multiple interacting layers I have beneath it (I don't want to "bounce down", need to keep many regions separate) - Seems like it ought to be under Generate Media as an object... I'm gonna try shopping a black/white letterbox and just overlay with transparency or mask or somethin

BamBamVasian, if you mean the black bars on top? The pan and crop tool which is how you do this is available in any version of Vegas, including Movie Studio.

That and color correction which is also available in Move Studio. I don't think Movie Studio has secondary color correction though.
