Dan Mongrain didn't play a single note on this album. He joined the ranks after it was already recorded. If you doubt his abilities, listen to Martyr, or better yet, catch Voivod live. He's a Piggy disciple, who knows that Voivod's trademarks are Piggy's chords. Listen to the new song they've been playing this year that Piggy didn't write, and tell me Dan can't hang with him. No disrespect to a god, but if you didn't like Infini or the style, you blame Piggy, not the guy who replaced him.
I've been a fan ofVoiVod since mid 80s - and I like the new album. We will never have another NF, DH or KT - masterpieces cannot be duplicated and made constantly. Instead of waiting for the next Nothingface, I've learned to appreciate each album for what it is.
@faterush - Don't get me wrong. I love War & Pain and RRROOOAAARRR!!! but NF, DH, and KT are the best VoivoD albums by far. Those albums are three of the greatest metal releases by anyone ever, but they would not have come to be if not for W&P and RRROOOAAARRR!!! When I had W&P on vinyl in my youth it was the only album I listened to for several months after I purchased it. Insofar as Infini goes, this album isn't even as good as The Outer Limits, which IMO is the weakest album VoivoD ever made.
I appreciate Angel Rat and The Outer Limits more than this. I even like the two albums they recorded with Eric Forrest aka - "E-Force" more than Infini. This new album only remotely sounds like VoivoD and the one solo Dan plays he's simply hanging on to half chord bends peppered with delay and it sounds nothing like a "Piggy" lead break. I'm glad they're still recording and touring, but I won't be going to see them as this is merely a vague semblance of their former glory.
Of course Dan Morgan is not going to sound like Piggy, nobody sounds like Piggy as he was so unique. His style, his approach to playing - it's impossible to duplicate. Dan being Piggy's student is as close as we are going to get to Piggy.
These are the best VoivoD albums and they'll never be surpassed. Dan Mongrain is a poor replacement for Dennis D' Amour. Infini is a huge disappointment.

I will agree with you that NF, DH and KT are masterpieces.
Trying to pick which one is the best of those 3 is nearly impossible to do cause they are all great in their own unique way.
War and Pain and RRROOOAAARRR are more of an aquired taste that comes after repeated listens.
Infini and their self titled album sound alot better than anything they did after NF in my opinion.
I struggle with Angel Rat, Outer Limits etc.
