I am looking at Hampton for Graduate School and I probably won't be involved in the UG lifestyle however it seems that it has a interesting perspective. I love HBCU's but I am somewhat unsure if I can take another HBCU experience.

i go to howard university and we may be the real HU but Hampton definitly has better looking facilities than us. Our student center is small compared to yalls. But at the end of the days I love all HBCU's

I LUV MY HIIIU!!! fall 98-2002. We proudly repped Hampton and hated us some NSU and Howard in the process lol. I miss ole Hampton, they had just opened the new student center my senior year. I was always in the gym and eating lol. I would catch students every now and then bowling in the the bowling alley. I had a good time while i was there...mainly in the band because we were pretty big..they small now but still hold it down..not like we use to tho. I see the greeks still doin their thing too.

raising hell...ok...but a ritual? we arent devil worshipers, Greek Frats and Sororities actually go into the community to help which is something Christians dont often do even though Jesus said go ye therefore into the world...Christians decide to stand within their four walls...we're college students, who cares if we dance and stroll?
We can have this debate all day it won't end ,but this where I end it. I hope the see you at the Howard Hampton Cabaret where two rival schools can put away there difference and do something good together. Rivalry is fun but at the end of the day we are two black schools and we lead by serving others.
Well, the issue is not about opportunities because on this campus we have a number of foreign teachers who are given the opportunity to teach at a prestigious college. Inclusive, we have foreign exchange students here to learn from over 20 different nations which enhances our diversity around the world. Maybe we didn't participate in Jena and maybe we didn't come together to rally to raise money, etc., but as I've said we are talking about two great HBCU's who have accomplished many things.
And it is no need to find differences all the time, but find similarities. Hampton and Howard has always and will always be the top 5on the list of prestigious HBCU's in these United States. With all of what we have accomplished, who can disregard coming to either of these schools?! Howard is advertised more because of it offering more than Hampton. But Hampton, again, have accomplished things Howard hasn't thought of pursuing in. With us working together, we can achieve many things!
Ie The Jena six and how Howard University called every radio station news station together to film our rally and how we brought together our alumni to donate money, how we sent buses full of students to Jena, Louisiana to protest, and how Omega Psi Phi Frat. Inc. Alpha Chapter. kept pushing event throughout the year.
Yes are campus is open. Instead of shun the community our school is in we welcome them. Yes ex-cons work in our cafeteria. How else will they get jobs and turn a new leaf if there not given the opportunity? Instead of sitting back and letting the black community fail Howard teach children they have a future and helps adults find there future. Obama and Oprah didn't pick Howard for no reason. Students at Howard have a legacy for seeing wrong in the community and stopping it.
Yes Howard is In the Nations Capital but shootings? I'm not going to lie and say I'd go around after dark, but in any metropolitan city that isn't advised I.e. Georgia Teach in Atlanta (good school bad city) that's why instead of going to New Orleans for alternative Spring break I stayed here in DC working at the YMCA helping the and volunteering around DC and I tutor at Centra nia kind of like Sylvan learning center for "Ghetto broke" kids (that by the way are people too).

Well, there are good and bad qualities of every school. You are speaking in terms of personal experience as you attend Howard. Maybe you have not researched enough to see that Hampton University holds history that many do not know. The Emancipation Oak Tree, that is on this campus, has gotten it's name because of the slaves who had worked on the plantation. The president then, Abraham Lincoln, had addressed, to the slaves, the Emancipation Proclomation that freed the slaves.
Might I also note on a social level, the campus is in the middle of a neighborhood plagued with crime and much too open to the public. After hearing about all of these shootings and the like, it would behoove many schools to ensure safety abroad. "I'm so glad, I go to HIU"!!!
I'll walk through the yard and see that 5 of the 9 of the divine nine were founded here. I'll past Locke hall , named after the first Black Rhodes scholar.
You have forgotten this University heads to pure excellence when it comes to our Science program, federal grant money that was given to us to launch a satellite into orbit and having a fully accredited Nursing, Architecture and 5-Year Business Administration Program, a program that allows students to receive their undegrad and graduates degree in 5 years - a program Howard doesn't offer. Let alone, we have several government contracts with NASA and many more.
If I went to school for football I would have went to UGA. Since I went for an education, the best education an HBCU can offer I went to Howard. Hampton Academic? I laugh as I go to founders library and leaf through the book like the ones Thurgood Marshall used in Brown vs. Board of education, and so grateful donated to the University he is an alumni to and I head off to my Alternative Spring Break assignment
First and foremost, our football team has been undefeated for a couple years - one in which we have beat Howard for 11 years straight. Academics are a plus and we have accomplished many scientific endeavors that Howard has yet to have established.
