Just a little information for some who may be wondering what this is about: this was a demo made back in 1999 by Paul Debevec showcasing all of his research into lighting 3D rendered scenes with real, image-based high-dynamic range lighting. All of the light cast within these scenes was generated solely from the photographic backgrounds, and is the reason it looks so believably lit. The advancements seen in this video are now found in almost any video game today, in real-time 3D.
His 1999 short film "Fiat Lux," which premiered at SIGGRAPH, went on to earn myriad international festival awards and was included among clips from "Star Wars," "Tron," "Jurassic Park" and "Toy Story" in the 1999 feature documentary "The Story of Computer Graphics."
The point is it is possible to put an animation in what seems to be a place where the action is taking place, but it is not, it is an HDRI or High Dynamic Range Image mapped and providing light that illuminates the 3D objects as if they were there.
Ya, I really like graphics and as hard as it was for me to come across this one, I don't think they minded me putting it up here. It just helps them, and gives my subs a glimpse at something cool.
THERE NEEDS TO BE A HD VERSION :)

@onjoFilms
there's a 480p version uploaded by Paul Debevec, that's the best I think we can get, search for "Fiat Lux SIGGRAPH 99 Electronic Theater"

onjoFilms 3 years ago
Yes, but what's the use of all this great technology if the story still sucks? People watch movies for the story, not the technology involved.
mwmoviemaker 3 years ago
Sometimes it is just a test of the technology as this is.
onjoFilms 3 years ago
Epic. What was your job in making this video?
By the way, thanks for your comment, though I don't know what drugs you were using when you wrote it :D
stumppi 3 years ago
I had nothing to do with the video. I am just helping promote it. More people would like to see it, that is the only reason.
No drugs when I commented on your vid. I ran out. Just a few mixed drinks.
