This was the first game for me that really made me feel something for the characters. I played through the game the first time and used tifa and barret. Playing through the whole game with them make this a really sad moment. Plus given their history barret looks like he want to offer some comfort to cloud.. but knows he can't as he's been through the same thing with the death of his wife. And tifa although she loves cloud she grew to be close friend to aeris so mourns the loss of her friend..

Man, Tifa's reaction really get's to me. Kneeling by Aeris, brushing her hair before rushing off sobbing. The timing of the music with the visuals, and hearing that music non-stop throughout the boss-fight... for me, this is the most epic scene of my childhood, and watching it never fails to get me a little emotional.
I think what really did it for me was her theme. So few time have I heard so much as the opening and not have some degree of sadness. Almost never fails to think back at how sad the scene was.

the thing is, when you die in battle, you are K.O'd. but you can be brought back to life with a phoenix down, or by casting the spell 'Life'. Aerith was KILLED, not K.O'd. therefore, a phoenix down or the 'Life' spell could not have saved her, no matter what.
Whats funny is when Cloud puts her in the water he is waist deep yet when she sinks it looks like she could go down for miles and miles. If this is the case how was Cloud able to stand in the water? :D

Yes I understand some people are more emotional than others or can get into a game story lines pretty well but come on people it a game my god if your gonna cry about a FF character death at least have some pride and cry over FF 7 crisis core's ending at least it looks better and its a hell of alot sadder than this one.

Did anyone ever notice how deep that pool of water is? And how Cloud is able to walk in it (and when Aerith is submerged, you do see any piece of land for him to stand on). This did this same bullshit in FFX and Tidus and Yuna were in the pool of water in Macalania Forest.

.... Seriously, I've watched this death scene time and time again, hoping that i'd feel some sort of sympathy for her. Try #9: Nothing. It's a sad scene but imo I think its stupidly put together. Sephiroth comes from the sky stabs her... once, she dies instantly. For me, far from the best death scene in video game history as acclaimed by others. Now Zack's death from CC was a WHOLE lot better, at least he had the decency to have last words. "Do you think I became a hero?" Now there's a scene. :)
You never created a bond with the character, obviously have no idea what her death means, and its far from "stupidly" put together. You critique a game scene and that's your reason for why its bad? Don't talk about things you know nothing about. It's in the game for a reason! And it's also a symbolic relationship when you find out that Cloud basically turned himself into Zack! Zack loved Aeris, so in way, that's why Cloud did as well. You have to put everything together. I've never played Final Fantasy; I only knew Cloud and Aerith (vaguely) from Kingdom Hearts, and I thought Aerith was kind of dorky in KH. Yet this scene brought a tear to my eye. Just the whole atmosphere, the music, how she died suddenly, Cloud's reaction, it all makes the scene very sad. You don't have to know Zack to find it sad. I'm proof that you don't even have to know Final Fantasy to find it sad.

No no, it's confirmed more than once that she understands they are two different people. She even confirms herself in Maiden of the Planet that she loves Cloud and her wish was to stay by him forever if she could.

well hard to say, i personaly did not find it to sad. If i had to guess its because people sorta.......fell in love with the character, with her charms and the type of char she was. ofcorse thats just a guess
It's since there's so much character development, if you were fan of the game you'd understand. It's like if one your friends died type of feeling and some people are simply overly sensitive.
... I am a fan of the game. It's my favorite of the FF series, as a matter of fact. Mostly because of Aerith's death. I would go with overly sensitive.
We were in Japanese, and looking at my KH2 book, and he sees a pic of Aerith and goes 'SHE'S BACK FROM THE DEAD!' And I'm like 'What?!' And he said FFXII was possibly the only game he's actually ever cried at.
When I first saw this scene, my heart ached as well, and I couldn't stop letting the tears flow. The reason why was that I loved this character, I'd seen her character get more and more fleshed out as I went along, and a character growing on you is a "no turning back" deal. Her racial issue also made this scene even sadder than it would've been w/o knowing her race.
I already hated Sephiroth, but THIS was the last straw. I fucking despised Sephiroth after this. I still cry even after 6 years.

This battle is a fail.
You get an item that makes Jenova's attacks heal you in the forest of the ancients.
Then you give it to cloud and haste Jenova.
After about 15 attacks she runs out of power and you can all attack her freely.

.... Seriously, I've watched this death scene time and time again, hoping that i'd feel some sort of sympathy for her. Try #9: Nothing. It's a sad scene but imo I think its stupidly put together. Sephiroth comes from the sky stabs her... once, she dies instantly. For me, far from the best death scene in video game history as acclaimed by others. Now Zack's death from CC was a WHOLE lot better, at least he had the decency to have last words. "Do you think I became a hero?" Now there's a scene. :)

You never created a bond with the character, obviously have no idea what her death means, and its far from "stupidly" put together. You critique a game scene and that's your reason for why its bad? Wow. Least you aren't getting paid. If you even played the game you would know why she died that way. Someone who thinks a cheese ball line like "Do you think I became a hero" makes a great death scene should not be referring to a scene that just about EVERYONE recognizes as great as "stupidly."

What "bond"? She died so damn early in the game how could I. I think that's why I felt no sympathy. An early death isn't a sad death imo. And when did I critisize the entire game? O.o
The scene was just eww. I mean when did it become so sad for someone to randomly get stabbed? Sure, shocking it was, but sad? C'mon this was supposed to be the most realistic (bar the graphics) final fantasy there was. Putting her whole death in an FMV was a stupid move is what I meant. ;)

Don't talk about things you know nothing about. It's in the game for a reason! And it's also a symbolic relationship when you find out that Cloud basically turned himself into Zack! Zack loved Aeris, so in way, that's why Cloud did as well. You have to put everything together. She died early in the game, yes, but that makes it sad, because you don't know who Cloud really loved....

How is this sad? Or are you just going with the crowd. Yeah, I know Cloud wanted to be like Zack but how can he take his feelings for Aerith? Makes no sense. So, this isn't sad, they weren't lovers? Ok the last Ancient died, why don't you cry for the other thousands that died too? Plus, when this was made many players had no clue about Zack, infact this scene wasn't even famous then. Somehow it became famous. O.o So tell me again why this is sad?

Because Aeris is, yes, an Ancient, but she's one of the people in the world that you should care about. She's nice and compassionate. And really, I think I prefer her to Tifa. You only want to argue to get people to pay attention to you. If you don't like Aeris and her death scene, why are you here? Why are we having this conversation when I bet you could be doing better things with your time? What, have nothing better to do? Then I pity your impudence.

Like I said before, it was the ninth time, I was pretty fed up about it. Plus, it was more like my saying my opinion than bashing, and asking why some many ppl liked this. The FMV was icky so I don't know about you but I can't cry and be pressing the "x" button at the same time, that just reminds you that you're playing a game. So can you tell me the time where the tears began? The last thing I wanted was to come off as rude, just saying. FF7 is awesome. Even if "someone" is emo.

I've never played Final Fantasy; I only knew Cloud and Aerith (vaguely) from Kingdom Hearts, and I thought Aerith was kind of dorky in KH. Yet this scene brought a tear to my eye. Just the whole atmosphere, the music, how she died suddenly, Cloud's reaction, it all makes the scene very sad. You don't have to know Zack to find it sad. I'm proof that you don't even have to know Final Fantasy to find it sad.

When I first saw this scene, my heart ached as well, and I couldn't stop letting the tears flow. The reason why was that I loved this character, I'd seen her character get more and more fleshed out as I went along, and a character growing on you is a "no turning back" deal. Her racial issue also made this scene even sadder than it would've been w/o knowing her race.
I already hated Sephiroth, but THIS was the last straw. I fucking despised Sephiroth after this. I still cry even after 6 years.
