@0ImSoSorry0 yeah, it's not what I would call my favorite by any means... there are definitely better books and resources out there for the serious beginner, in my opinion
I know hiragana and katakana and around 15 kanji (of which probably only five will be useful to me.....except if I'm playing Okami) and I want to get started on grammar and actually speaking the language beyond "Hajimemashite!" and other stuff like that.....Do you have a reccomendation for which of these books I should start with?
@RisingSun011 Wrong. It depends on the person her/himself. If he is patient and serious with learning a language, then he can use the right resources to study Japanese, and improve by himself. Not everything needs a class.
@esw9999 Ah, I have checked this one out, and it seems like a good resource for colloquialisms at least. But, having only recently broken into online buying, I hadn't come across that book until recently. :)
@bitbit40 yes, actually I do. I did my first video for the books I used when I was at the beginning stages (except for the grammar handbook, I still use that to this day)
I can do another video using books and things I use now if you'd like. :D
@momonigiri87 Of course! i would love that, if you can make a video.... or maybe even some videos about your resouces... :-)
i'm always looking for some new ones to use, so it would be great if you can do that :-)))))
you are still using the grammar handbook?? wow.. i never really liked that book, but maybe i should give it a second look. do you have the grammar dictionary series? that is what i use, but then again, i use it to learn new grammar points...
i used to have the for dummies one and i hated it :/

@bitbit40
Oh yeah sure thing! I have never done this whole making videos thing because I never knew what to put, but that sounds like a good idea.
Yeah, I use more than just books now of course.
I still use the grammar handbook but only when I need to reference something really quickly that I know is a commonly used grammar point.
Oo an entire grammar dictionary does sound nice though... >.> Maybe I should check it out.
Who's it by?

@momonigiri87 Haha! :-)
so now you have ideas for a series, about Japanese learning resources. actually i just might do that myself :-)
The grammar dictionary that i'm talking about is a series of 3 books, from basic to advanced..you can get them online, but i prefer real books..
you tube won't let me link, so just google "a dictionary of Basic japanese grammar".
it's kind of expensive, but i really think it's a must have. i have the first 2, and plan on getting the third soon :-)

@bitbit40 ah yeah I found it online. A bit pricey yeah, but looks like a good investment.
Thanks for the recommendation!
