  • Hi....can somebody help me?? im on the brink of buying a Vintage LP....im not mad on the distressed Icon look so am wondering are the standard V100's the same as the icon jus without the wear and old look....both have Wilkonson doubled coiled pick ups and same matierals so i figure they are but im not sure????....also shud i jus buy an epiphone standard???

  • @skinjoe yes the standard V100s are the same as the Icon V100s without the artificial ageing. The only exception is this model, the V100MRPGM because it has the nickel silver humbuckers and out of phase wiring.

  • @vintageshred71 Thank you very much for the reply!!...in your opinion if you were to choose between a V100, Vintage Paradise or a Epiphone lp standard which of the three would you suggest?

  • @skinjoe I work for the company that owns and distributes Vintage so I'm not exactly unbiased! But between the Paradise and the Standard V100...hmmm...I think the Paradise. Just because I like the finish really. But my favourite is the Lemon Drop.

  • Just great video:) My lefty Lemon Drop is the best guitar on the world and I love it! BTW, her name is Tessie :D I have Kustom KG 112 FX amp and it's good for beginner. Cheers from Poland ;)

  • I know the whole Peter Green thing but did be give the guitar to Gary Moore and it then become Mr Moores main guitar???

  • gav my nut on my vintage vs6 broke im a wondering if a graph tech gibson replacment nut would fit ?

  • @everybodylovesgav I would think so, it should be the same size and shape.

  • @vintageshred71 thanks gav :)

  • Great vid Gav, ignore the trolls! The thing I really liked about this range guitars is the neck profile, for me that makes the guitar. We all have different shaped hands and I have to say I prefer this neck shape to any Gibson I've owned or played, it reminded me of a 70's Les Paul Artisan. Great guitars at a great price.

  • @mattchurchill Cheerds buddy!

  • Hi there, is this guitar still available to purchases? Great video great guitar!!

  • @vassili1987 yes it is, and Vintage should be available at most good music stores in Ireland. Thank you for your kind comments.

  • @vintageshred71 OOOOooo Thank you ever so much, have to have a nosy tomorrow =D

  • I own a lemon drop and its spot on, been playing 35 years and can say that the name on the headstock means nothing, if it feels good and plays good and the sound is yours then buy it, Gibson fine, Fender Fine, Vintage fine a guitar is only as good as the player

  • @TheSTEVEHICKS - strange, as there are about 30 pro guitarists I know who are regularily using this guitar in front of crowds of 200 - 20000 people each night - I'm sure they wouldn't be if it was going out of tune or 'cheap shit'. I'm sorry to hear you have had problems and I'd be happy to help you try and resolve them?

  • Had commented on the vintage being a good axe, however my lemon drop goes out of tune all the time, bought a Gibson to replace in comparison now the vintage is good for fire wood, cheap shit buy the real thing!!

  • I bought a lemon drop recently and it is great, it's weight is very close to a US Gibson

And for the money you won't find much better!

  • Amazing playing amazing guitar

  • if only you could play like alex hutchings bless !!!!!!!!!

  • @jakeste :-)

  • At 3:20 the reviewer claims that turning the pickup around to face the wrong way reverses the phase. IT DOES NOT! There is a "secret" reverse phase that the original PG Les Paul has, and that only Hamer have included, and it doesn't matter which way either pick up is facing! If someone is going to dem this guitar, then firstly, get the facts right, and secondly, play it in a way that someone is going to play it. That is, in reverse phase mode without distortion or shredding!

  • @vazon69 yes your right my apologies. This has been brought up in another thread earlier. However, its not a secret, reversing the polarity of the neck pickup can be acheived by reversing the magnet, or be rewiring the circuit - so that in centre position the electrons in both p/ups are travelling in opposite directions creating the out of phase. As for your other comments, horses for courses - I seem to remember Gary Moore doing a fair amount of shredding on his guitar...

  • @vintageshred71 Thanks for the kind reply (More than I deserved, after re-reading it!) I'd just had a VERY frustrating discussion with a "Know it All" (yes, another besides me) about it, and I flipped when I saw your post, so I apologise for being rude! As for your playing, I meant that if someone's interested in that model, then p'haps a pastiche of (say) Black Magic Woman or Need Your Love So Bad would be more appropriate.. Even Gary used 1 of his other LP's when shredding! (Nice chops, tho'!

  • @vazon69 First time I've seen someone admit their mistakes on YouTube. Respect man! ;-)

  • @CHARLIESLYSTER Least I could do as the guy had been so nice to me after I had been so rude to him! Besides, admitting your mistakes and saying sorry is a sign of strength, not weakness! Thanks for your nice comment, too, by the way. Wanna hear how bad my chops are? Check out my vids!

  • @vazon69 True man, true! No problem. I've just looked at your videos, really nice playing! I liked the Bugera V22 demo a lot, keep up the good work.

  • Thanks!

  • what is your official website where i can view the entire catalog?

    Thanks

  • @ajtheghost hi, I have sent you a msg with the link, as YT won't let me post URLs in comments. Cheers

  • Very nice playing mate! Question for you, you've said in previous responses what the amp is and that you wern't using any pedals, are you using just the stock speaker as well? The guitar sounds really good through such a little amp, cheers!

  • @Roryfan1000 hi and thanks for your kind comments. Yes, this was just the anniversary KGA10FX by Kustom

  • @vintageshred71 so I was capable to read the JHS website correctly.... the maple cap was the main arguement for buying the MRPGM.

  • do the normal V100s have a maple cap or only a veneer? I own the lemon drop, I really like but it was terribly setup. nevertheless I would buy a honeydrop without aging

  • @JamesMacbear no they are a mahogany cap with a flame maple veneer. Only the Lemon Drop has a maple cap, which is one of the reasons why it is more expensive.

  • does the guitar have a real flame top?

  • @chubbymosher700 not at this price, no. It's a flame veneer over a maple cap.

  • @vintageshred71 ah fair enough. getting one of these as an importers reject soon.

  • All the amps behind him and he uses the smallest one ........

  • is this guitar identic to the normal V100s except from the look and relic?

  • @MyHeartBeatsRnR yes, and apart from the out-of-phase reverse wiring and and the Nickel Silver pickup covers.

  • @vintageshred71 thx for the quick answer:)

  • do you know anything about rico guitars?

  • By cons sorry but it does not smell good quality manufacturing

Unless that is either my guitar but I doubt it ?

The first note on low E string frieze Buzzz strongly and therefore impossible to have a flat neck action and more you hollow the neck less you have the buzz! For the Wilkinson thats not cool for he's reputation guitar oh ... my guitar don't stay in tune!!! WTF!

Plastic rythm trebble mic selector falls off!!

One fret have a little cut!

For the price it sounds good no more!

    bouhhhhh!

  • @christocaster The Vintage guitar range is excellent value for money, i have one and have had no problems with it at all.

    Your problems of:

    1) Fret buzz could be fixed easily, just get it set-up at your local music shop.

    2) Not staying in tune, i have found this remedy's itself with in a few days as the wood acclimatises itself with your homes temperature (this is the same with any guitar make i have found)

    3) As for the rhythm selector button it must be faulty one, get it changed!

  • @sunnydayinperth Of course 150 euros more for it...lol

    thanks

  • @christocaster your vintage just sucks then. I have a standard v100 and It is better than some guitars I own £400+

  • @ninjabob3000 For the price of course that a great guitar! better than low price Gibson LP but not really great finish!

  • @christocaster Yeah I have to say its not a finish for me but it could still be a studio guitar.

  • yeah i've now my lemon Drop great great sound...The look is discutable!

  • bubinga neck?

  • @pitrideradz No, its mahogany.

  • Such a shame that the sound drops out during the demo.

  • @robbiereilly96 Soon hopefully....

  • @vintageshred71 yeah the SG mick abraham is another option for me. but i would like to hear it and there is not one single video of it.

hope you will make a great review as allways :)

  • @Shaguar66 on it's way I promise!! I know I said this 2 months ago, but honestly it is lol - I've got the footage recorded, it's just getting the time to put it all together...

  • @vintageshred71 hurry up ...... can't wait ...... vintage guitars ...... too sexy ... too wait for!!!!!

thanks for your answer and have fun with making your reviews!

  • hey does anyone know if there's any vidz on the mick abraham signature vintage????

  • is this a good guitar for metal playing???

  • Great playin dude! stick a slash ap2 humbucker in the bridge and put it through a marshall mg half stack and it gives you a kick ass tone.

  • Quick question, does anyone know if the pickups in this have 2-conductor or 4-conductor wiring?

  • @evilotto77cheese they are four conductor

  • Will contact you guys about my channel i think, would love to try one.

  • Awesome

  • i just got the joe bonamassa one and just wanned to say that for anyone interested in this the goldtop is fuckin bang on as well ;)

  • @luirules Which one is the Bonamassa one?

  • @MichaelGaard v100mrjbm

  • Great vibrato!

  • Do you know any shops in Greater Manchester that might sell this or the vintage website?

  • Hi try johnny roadhouse or spectrum music - look up JHS on the net for the w/site

  • Thanks alot mate, can't wait to get my hands on one of these. :)

  • Aw, they don't have it, I might order it online.

  • @vintageshred71 are You using Custom Contender 18W amp?

  • No this is the Kustom anniversary series KGA10FX. The standard model is around the £80 mark at full RRP, the only difference is the Anniversary series had the "tuck n roll" covering and the vintage control panel layout.

  • Love the guitars, and envy the playing ability! Could you tell me what's the song at the start of the video?

  • Thank you dude - it's my song "Sweet Little Girl" available from rockofthenorth as part of a 10 track compilation CD - all proceeds to Cancer Research UK - Check out the other you tube vid "Hope"

  • I recently got one and was surprised to see it was prettty rough where the neck joins the binding under the 1st and 2nd fret. The guitar came totally unset with the neck bowed out so that the strings sat on the frets. i did set it up but wasnt happy with the neck so it was sent back and im awaiting a replacement. The shop were fantastic and couldnt apologise enough and collected it the same day. the worrying thing was it came with a card that said the action and finish etc had been checked ok.

  • The guitars are Factory checked but not at the distribution point - onus is on the reseller to check and report any problems back before selling to the public. Sorry to hear of your problems, perhaps another reason to buy from a store and not off the internet?

  • Got the replacement today and it absolutely spot on....Thanks for the reply.

  • I dont know what is with this guitars ... but they feel god all over, they r nice to hold and to play and they sound amazing ...

  • Dude.. Havent Gibson Made a Fuss about the Open Book Headstock that is present on your LP and SG copies???

  • No - all our guitars are checked before release onto the market for possible copyright infringements.

  • This guitar is a secret weapon and a half! I have been after a Les Paul copy as I don't have the cash for a Gibson and I was going to plump for the Epiphone Standard until a mate of mine recommended the Lemon Drop. After playing one, this is definitely on my hit list. For £250 it's a steal! Beautiful feel and tones.

  • I got a V100It for my lad for christmas and ive been playing it while he 's at school over the last couple of days mainly to set it up but i cant put it down. It was set up very well as it came and only needed minor adjustment. I have a gibson LP studio but its a lot of money to gig with so ill be probably buyin one of these myself after christmas.

  • What amp is being used here?

  • It is a Kustom KGA10FX anniversary issue 10 watt practice amp.

  • Hey dude:)

Do you know what magnets they use in the WVC (I can't remember what they're called :p) humbuckers?

Sound awesome dude, tried this guitar the other week and it played like a dream :)

  • Thanks mate - I believe they are alnico V.

  • this is a lovely guitar. tried it out in the store, but opted for the tobacco burst 100 instead. does anyone know the name of the song played at the very beginning of this video?

    Cheers.

  • Hi, and thanks for buying Vintage® :-) - it's my own song, which will be available in September '09

  • it sounds really great.

  • Thanks dude.

  • I have one of these! WOOP WOOP

  • man i love that guitar!!!!will get one one day, when i have the money.but saving for a vox ac4tv amp at moment!!!great vid!!!

  • I have a Vintage VS6, could I reverse the neck pickup in that to get a similer sound?

  • Hi - you would need to rewire the pickup as well - I'd suggest getting a qualified tech to do this if you have no experience of rewiring guitars.

  • Oh, so its more than just turning the pickup round and resoldering the wires? well ok, I'll ask in how much it would cost to have done next time I'm in a guitar shop

  • According to the techs, you have a black and green wire for each pickup. simply swap these over to achieve out of phase. However, I suggest you get a qualified tech to do this if you have no previous experience of wiring a guitar

  • Actually you take your neck pickup backplate off, and then take the magnet out and put it in upside down, this is what peter green did himself by accident. its really simple. :)

  • Sadly I cant get the back plate off my pickup, its been soldered on and it wont melt. So I've given up trying. Unless you have a good idea to remove it XD

  • Yep, I had the same problem. All i did was got a chizel (however its spelt) and lightly hit it until it was through the solder, its quite easy because the solder isnt that thick, and it doesn't damage the pickup cover, unless you whack it with like a mallet lol. A flat head screwdriver also works if you don't have a chisel :)

  • Sounds good to me

I might try that, I've just got an Ibanez Iceman so I dont really need to mod my VS6 now :p

  • oooohhhhh.

    pete green

  • This is an awesome guitar! Got myself one a few days ago and it's better than my Gibson SG Standard! Thanks for your video that pointed me in the direction of this guitar.

  • Many thanks - have fun!

  • Saw you at the Manchester show today! is this your own guitar that was on the stand???

  • Hi, and thanks for checking me out - yes it's the same guitar.

  • this guitar in Harmony central gets a fantastic review! near perfect actually, how have Vintage arrived at this for so little cost, and have they shot themselves in the foot?

  • i have this guitar is fantastic........

  • Why does the sound go when he's talking about the pickups? Is it because he's talking complete bollocks? Turning the pickup round makes NO difference to the sound, individually or when both pickups are combined. You have to reverse the actual wiring on one pickup.

  • .....................which is explained in the video and the comment thread above? Why the the aggression?

  • ...you expect me to actually READ all this guff?

  • ......well, you've had the time to leave two comments now. Could have at least checked YOUR facts up before you had a go at me....

  • My facts are fine. Twice in the clip and also in one of your text replies you state that turning the pickup around creates the out of phase tone. It doesn't! You only mention reversing the wires in reply to a direct question about returning the guitar to its original tone. I'm not having a go, just trying to save hundreds of guitarists the trouble of turning their neck pickups and wondering why the sound hasn't changed, thanks to your misinformed ramblings!

  • So you I admit that I do explain about the wiring then?

Fine - I admit that the clip does leave you with the impression that reversing the pickups is all you need to do -

I apologise to anyone who may have been misled by this, it wasn't intentional. I'd have nothing to gain by it anyway. I'm a player, not a tech.

However "complete bollocks", "guff", "misinformed ramblings" - But your "not having a go"?

BTW I don't know why the sound goes in the video.

  • fuk ye u tel him lol

  • i don't know why people are so nasty. the peter green mod is simple enough to figure out. your hair in this video, however, remains a mystery...

    love you really gav x x x

  • Hey man, mullets are coming back into fashion, I read it in my horoscope....lol.

Seriously though, the hair was a mistake. A big one.

  • 10 out of 10 for giving it a go though

  • Hey Gav,

After reading some of your comments, the 'normal' V100's are just the same, but without this top and reversed pickup? is it all the same finish too (poly or nitro if you know?)

I remember when one arrived to Guitar Essentials (long gone now... ) and we were blown away by it, though the look wasnt for me... Can't find any of these to play in Leeds! grr...

Hope to get some vintage guitars, for live use mostly as i daren't take this PRS CE 24 anywhere!

  • HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

  • Finally an online review of this guitar that lets you hear the tone rather than just buckets of gain and too many notes. Impressive mid price guitar

  • many thanks 70lpdx

  • I ordered one of these and its brilliant, far exceeded my expectations everything said in this video about it is spot on. Love it.

  • many thanks organicpaul :-)

  • HI and thanks for watching, yes they are.

  • Are these wired out of phase like PG's guitar is rumoured to have been?

  • Nice playing; I can't believe a guitar that inexpensive can sound so good-a good dollop of reverb, whack the treble up and it's PG all the way.

Honestly, is the guitar you were playing an 'off-the-shelf' model or has it been modded in any way?

  • Cheers dude - no modifications at all, just a set of Dunlop strings and the action set how I like it :-)

  • thanks - great video and nice playing, I'll be buying one of these in the next couple of weeks I have heard good things about them.

  • Cheers, and thanks for your kind comments :-)

  • Hi, nice demo, whats the neck profile like on this guitar?

  • Hi and thanks for watching - it's a fairly slim C profile, not too "clubby" - which is probably wrong for the period, but makes it much more playable IMO - although I realise that's a very subjective issue.

  • Do they make a LH version of this sir?

  • Hi and thanks for watching - I'm afraid there is no left handed option at the moment, but there is the V100LH in the standard series, which has the same features minus the worn finish and reverse wound pickup.

  • I just bought a Vintage EVH EBMM axis style guitar, do you have any info cos I have never seen one before. Bought it from a nice guy at Mckays in Newcastle whose a stockist. He also has a really nice Vintage that looks like a Patrick Eggle Berlin for £200, might put a deposit down for that too as I'd pay £500 for the real thing.

  • Hi dude, and thanks for watching. The model you have purchased is the Vintage VH51FR - no longer in production.

I would guess the the PEB style model is actually the VRS100 - my favourite from the standard models. Check out my vids.

  • Thanx mate, Vntage imo look like very good value for money particularly when you see the ridiculous prices for Gibsons and Fenders these days !!

  • vintage guitars are the best value for money around. get as many as you can... i reckon they'll only go up in value, and even if they don't they're the best guitars around for the price anyway

  • I've got a Lemon Drop. It had rough frets and needed a set up - BUT it sound fab - better than the Gibson Les Paul Standard I used to own. I'm really a strat man - but this is a great cheap way to have a Les Paul in your arsenal!

  • masterquestion: Better then Epiphone?

  • Hi, and thanks for watching. I can't answer that question without being accused of prejudice. Check out others comments below.

  • allright.

Well then maybe you can help me out with this one:

Im into this guitar, i really want it, so what do i do, right, search for reviews. Now i found some where the electronics of this guitar were described as poor, the craftmanship too. Someones jack just fell out and so on.

Do you have experiences witht hat? Does vintage have that bad of a quality control?

  • I've not come across poor electronics or craftmanship yet, although to be honest I'd be suprised if there wasn't a few bad examples out of the THOUSANDS sold worldwide every year - that is the downside of mass-production and one of the pitfalls of buying online - personally I'd never buy a guitar I hadn't tried, and I can't understand people who do, just to save a few quid.

  • Regarding the jack socket falling out, actually this happened to me once. It's one of the design faults of the original and one of the things Trev Wilkinson improved on with the Vintage Advance series.

  • allright, thanks.

Well ofcourse im gonna try the guitar, and if you know the guy who sells it there is no price difference to an online store. last time i bought a guitar in that store they gave me seclocks and a gigbag for free. So no big deal.

  • I bought this vintage 2 weeks ago.i LOVE it. ive only been playing guitar for like 3 months and in the begining i sucked.now i can play sweet chil o mine, voodoo child, rock you like a hurricane, back in black, thunderstruck, hells bells, sweet home alabama, paint it black, crazy trian, walk this was,are you gonna go my way and many more.i really think this is an awesome guitar,i compared it to epiphone and i would recon this one is better, my friend has a gibson and i think its only a bit better.

  • Do Vintage Guitars have a veneer maple top or a real cap?

    Nice video btw.

  • Thanks you. Yes, its a proper maple cap as per the original design.

  • Awesome! Thanks for the reply.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I played this guitar today and really liked it. The tone was great. Factory setup the action was a little high but is was still very playable. I also played the epihone les paul and a gibson les paul. I would place this above the epiphone in terms of tone the pickups are great. If I did not already own a Yamaha RGX520RZ which is a mahogany bodied maple cap humbucker guitar. I would have probably bought it. I am still tempted because I did like it very much.

  • I love your playing mate !

  • Cheers dude, I appreciate that :-)

  • Well deserved mate!

What amp, pedals are you playing through?

  • No pedals, just the Kustom anniversary KGA10FX that you can see behind me.

  • What do they mean when they say "out of phase centre position wiring"?

Can you just unscrew the neck pickup and switch it around to get the "original" sound?

And how come the stock photo looks so different to the actual guitar?

  • Hi, and thanks for watching. The out-of-phase sound only occurs when you have the pickup selector switch in centre position, not when you use the neck or bridge pickups on their own. According to the techs, you have a black and green wire for each pickup. simply swap these over to achieve standard tone. However, I suggest you get a qualified tech to do this if you have no previous experience of wiring a guitar. Alternatively, check out the other Icon series V100's which have normal wiring.

  • i've looked for one of these, and i'm doubting between the lemon drop and the honeyburst ICON. I only could play the 2nd one (I live in spain and it's not easy to find vintages) but i've seen the lemon drop costs 50pounds more than the honeyburst (that's 70-80€), So which one would be the best option? is really any diference of sound or feeling between the lemon drop and the common ICONs? thx

  • Hi and thanks for watching - main difference is the reverse neck pickup in the Lemon Drop, which gives you that out of phase sound in centre position - also the markings have to be done by hand to a certain pattern, so that adds the extra cost. Other than that they are identical in hardware, pickups and woods

  • These are great....although it's a shame the lower horn is just a bit too pointy, compared to the original.

  • Yes - unfortunately thats due to copyright reasons.

  • I suspected as much....still it can't be that difficult to alter it...now , where did I leave my angle grinder?

  • LOL ...but hey, that's what Jeff Beck did to his Yardbird Tele....

  • Who makes this guitars is it china???

  • Hi Satcurator, thanks for watching. Yes, the Vintage range is Chinese built - not that it makes any difference these days, other than to production costs.
