  • Hey, in the Health Food part I simply can't hear the timing of the bass part. I thought it was in 3/4 but I'm pretty sure it's 4/4 over 6/8 drums? Can you help me out at all? I just can't keep it going under the drums they really are a distraction :/ Cheers

  • zappa stash

  • Saw Crimson several times with the Wetton, Cross, Fripp, and Bruford line-up. Wetton does not play this selection with a pick.

  • Okay, thank you, I didn't know that. Take care and thanks for the info.

  • Thank you Thank you Thank you You have heaped up so much good karma for sharing your hard work with us all.

  • KING CRIMSON RULES!!

  • your playing is so good I'd rather listen to this than the original.

  • Nice job sounds good!

  • You have discipline sticker on your bass?

  • awesome :o

  • Nice Job.

  • would you mind posting the tabs for this song, I have every part of it down but I haven't figured out that part

  • go for dr. diamond!!!

  • Dude!!!!!!

I can play this stuff on drums.

Crimson and Zappa are my core - those two bands had some of the best musicians of all time!

I sat first row with Shawn Lane at a 1979 UK concert watching Alan Holdsworth, John Wetton, Eddie Jobson and Bill Bruford tear it up. I played with Shawn for about a year.

Watching you play Crinson reminds me so much of my bass player (Billy Cooper) playing this stuff.

    You REALLY ROCK Dude!

    It's about the HARD!

  • Awesome! Learning this for myself now!

  • Great playing man

Is that an American Standard precision, all stock? Sounds great

  • It's a MIM P Bass, made in 2005. I yanked out the stock cheapie pick ups and installed a set of Seymour-Duncan 1/4 pounders (basslines). The other mod was a BadAss bridge. Thanks for the comment, -Bill

  • @BillyMegaWatt

You never stop to amaze me! Thats a killer combination (the modified p-bass, and the Rickenbacker). P-bass for King Crimson, Rickenbacker for Rush :) -Reni

  • @BillyMegaWatt Yeah man. I could be your claim to fame. I would introduce you to Trey Gunn if I knew him. How is it you do not have a heart attack playing that Satanic music? i write 666-777 page essays on bass players like you, Wetton, and Sara Lee.

  • some jealous asshole missed the like button.

    Gret work man.

  • One of my favorites from the omnipotent, mighty King Crimson!!! Fuck yeah! "Starless & Bible Black" is one of their best albums, along with "Red", which is my personal favorite. "Larks Tongue in Aspic" is quite stunning as well. 73-74 Crimson is TOPS!!!!

  • Wow nice shirt! Are you from Hamilton by any chance?

  • I was always amazed that Wetton could play this bass line and sing at the same time. That's why he's a musician and I'm a listener.

  • GREATTTTTTTTTT !!!!!!!

  • sold! great work!

  • Nice, very nice indeed.

  • Nice playing! Thanks for showing it here.-

  • BUENOS DEDOS MAN !!!

  • nice job...why can't I find the original on youtube?

  • sing hymns, make love, get high.... they're words to live by. nailed that bass by the way, i enjoyed it a lot!

  • Great cover! Nailed it, Wetton is such a great bass player dude!

Is there any chance i might see you cover the following track on the Starless and Bible Black album, "Lament"? I totally love the bass part in the middle, during what i like to call "the proggy part" :P

    I'l keep wishing ;) Cheers!

  • Camel Hair, Bryllcreme, Drop a glass full of antique Sherry.

    Indeed.

  • For some reason... I almost get the feeling you don't have tabs for this.

  • Tight bass tone there. Sweet.

  • Great job!

  • This is one of the greatest bands to ever pick up instruments...well done on your taste in music Billy...everything you cover is certainly worth revisiting/covering! And you do a killer job on everything

  • u wouldnt happen to have any tabs for this would u?

  • My favorite king crimson song, awesome cover!

  • Did he say "Health food fagot"? lol great playing as usual! What ever happened to your old account as Munkybarz?

  • Munkybarz? Nah, this is my first and only account, ever, right? I posted the lyrics for you.

  • I get it.

    Subscribed.

  • @dragonchild25 Yep- he is referencing a health food meatball that was popular in the U.K. at the time....

  • You are a bad ass, dude.

  • Em not trying to hate on you or anything your playing is awesome but did you record this bass part slower and then speed it up with your computer?

I don't know it just looks like that...

  • No, but John Wetton did all this with a pick and I had a tough time keeping up. No smoke and mirrors. Thanks.

  • i thought tony levin was the bassits...oh well i stand corrected then

  • After John Wetton he was. Or was that Trey? Damnit I can't remember.

  • @ugmogog John Wetton was bassist from 71 until the band split in 74.

    75-80: Hiatus.

    80: rebirth with Tony Levin.

94: Trey Gunn was added (not replacing Levin) to the "double trio".

    Levin backed out in 2000.

Gunn was replaced by Levin in late 03.

  • Thanks, good to know/

  • @BillyMegaWatt Wow! I didn't realize he played this song with a pick. How do you know that? Is there a video of it out there somewhere? Did you see him do it live?

  • @BillyMegaWatt i had no idea wetton used a pick. Wonderful seeing you parse this ditty and hearing that tone. bravo.

  • @fionnruadh you seem so cool. an awesome observation. i build home-made devil's triangles in the woods. They get An 8-ball of pharmy Ritalin on a mirror at the apgogee (30 ft up) and a C-battery in a cypress tree at the vortex. The sex organs of these triangles are suspicious confidential informants like yourself.

  • was this video taken down before? i remmeber i favorited it awhile ago but then ago but then it was unavaliable for awhile , also what p bass is that?

  • Awesome playing, saw your other KC bass cover of Larks' II GREAT PLAYING!

    Greetings from Chile.

Could you maybe do a cover of Starless?

    :D

  • Woah! Great playing man!

    Totally inspiring! Wow!

  • Thanks Daniel! Coming from you that's quite a compliment. Oh, BTW, I had been thinking about getting an Electrix Repeater. After visiting your channel, now I know I'm getting one. Excellent work indeed, If I get stuck finding my way around on it I'll look you up for sure. -Bill

  • F*ck man, as a KC fan I'm sold, I bet mr. John Wetton would be proud of you, if he saw this.

Congratulations for your great work, on covering those hard progressive tunes. Keep it up coming.

  • This is one of my favorite videos you have. Awesome playing!!!!!!

  • Thanks very much. I'm a card carrying member of S.I.T.S. (Stuck In The Seventies). I really think you're going to gain a lot of notoriety and a major list of subscribers, just wait, you'll see.

  • Wow... that means a LOT coming from you! I'm not so sure if too many will care about my stuff, but it is fun and I enjoy this new hobby. Rock on my friend! You are "the man" on bass.

  • Just so you know, the Ballerina Shoes on the wall behind me in this video aren't mine. The Tux Shirt however, is.

  • Awesome playing, I've been trying to play this as well but is nowhere close to playing it this good. Great Job!

  • Great playing!!! Good to see you back in business

  • great stuff. I love the way KC did their change ups. I'd love to hear "Electrik" but the instrumentation on that song is so out there that you might need an 8 or 12 string bass just to do it.

  • amazing!!!

  • Hey, glad you're back! This is one of your best.

  • I love King Crimson!!!! Especially their high energy stuff like this! Great bass playing; it looks like fun!

    ~Amy

  • Just when i thought i was becoming good at bass :(

gotta get working on this song

  • Heheheh.

You should try Fracture, Larks' Tongues in Aspic Part II, or Red next. :D

Do you listen to Soft Machine? That's the prog/fusion band I've been listening to lately.
