@TheBimbly Haha i almost forgot what i wrote it was so long ago. You don't need martial arts to beat up people any prison can prove that, i guarantee that the majority of inmates didn't have any formal training and yet they still are effective at assaulting someone or worse, from a combat perspective is taido realistic...No but is it Budo....Yes, why because the true meaning of budo isn't just about combat it's about longevity, unless you think your invincible.
low stances, high jumps, walking almost on knees... those guys certainy have very strong feet. i'd like to see the use of hands while sparring as well as some grappling and mutodori.!
@nachoman083 Don't you think they can hit hard with those legs? Look how fast their footwork are. How fast they perform a kick and dodging. Truly KB and other MMA is more effective than Taido but they aren't harmless. The combat style relay on moments, not hitting the enemy first. The agility, speed and concentration is all it takes to be a fierce fighter.
Martial arts are training, not combat. Most self defense or "Street effective" teaching in Martial Arts fails to train the Mental aspect of 360 degree awareness in combat and always being ready as well as perseverance, you might not see it but a Taidoka is probably more effective in evasion and getting out of danger which is probably the most effective self defense of all and they pick and choose when to attack, they are strong, flexible, have versitility, this is Budo no doubt about it.
Well it's like learning at school the teacher can teach your about sciences but that doesn't mean they can teach you how to be a biologist. It's the same thing, when it comes down to it your responsible for your own training a teacher can really only teach you what the syllabus is speed, awareness, reaction time and tactics are all attributes that need to be learnt however you can most MA masters learnt this by doing solo training or by going into reclusion for a period.
wow, it's amazing how fast they can cover so much ground! the jumping, etc. is really cool, too. i don't care how impractical it may be, i'd love to be able to do that!
woohoo, taido ftw! I've been practicing taido for almost a year and i gotta tell you it's awesome. And so was the video, they made jissen look so cool, i wish some day i move like that too :)
Yeah, you were getting a little hostile. I don't think anyone in that room trying to be a tough guy. I think they just thought it was fun and beautiful and were enjoying themselves. I am not sure how anyone can criticize that as a reason for doing martial arts.
"as you can see tai-do is based on fast creative movement" more like... as you can see, we have invented a fake art in which 80% of all practitioners will be unable to perform the art, and at 50 that will drop down to 5%.Additionally, eaach practioner once matched up with a NON commercial style will lost his ass when they get swept on the pavement. Hitting the person is NOT SO RELAVENT! Can we all say BULLSHIT This is fantasy land.
It's only a dancing, this mma have many weaknesses and not economize fighter's energy + fast punches and kicks are weak, powerful are slow. mb i am be mistaken, so i said IMNO
Actually, there are great schools all over the Kanto region. Clubs in Yamanashi, Aomori, Miyagi, and Shizuoka also produce great competitors.
The difference is that Tokyo has the most clubs, hence the most competition. So tournament players from Tokyo are better at winning tournaments - they get much more practice. Also, other regions have local styles of training whereas most schools in Tokyo (since they are typically university based) have a very competition-oriented style of training.
Whether Taido is effective in UFC or not is completely irrelevant. I haven't seen any Taido clubs advertise themselves as full on MMA gyms. The agility these guys have though is out of this world and it's amazing to watch.
Not many arts are interested in 'UFC' or 'MMA'.... I guess it would be hard to understand for someone who does do MMA. We are happy with our arts as they are.
There is nothing called as japanese wushu. So what are you talking about? Taido has its roots in traditional okinawan karate. Look it up at Wikipedia!!
Taido is a japanese martial art founded in 1965 by Seiken Shukumine (1925-2001). Shukumine was an expert in Okinawa-te. He founded Gensei-ryu karate-do in the 50's before founding Taido, wich has his roots in karate.

Is this modern? I read about this in a Japanese Budo magazine... it actually has its roots and could be considered traditional...
I read something about that the farmers caste developed this art... Don't know if it's true though...
It may not have a Samurai lineage, but it's still Budo nonetheless... and looks really cool

I don't quite understand why should a taidoka be interested of competing at ufc?
Anyway, as far as I know, Taido is only martial art that has acrobatics and emphasizes sparring with contact, so it's very different than wushu.
