I'm an AEMT in Kentucky, and everyday before work, I play this song on my iTouch while getting ready. This song always pumps me up, and it always reminds me what im fighting for myself, and that is to try my damn hardest to save the live's of the people in my community when they need us. It's a thin white line, and it's easy to walk off of it. This is one of the best song's i've heard that represent's our career. My thought's go out to the other EMT's/AEMT's/Paramedic's, and First Responder's.
Firefighters, First Responders, EMTs, and everyone in the emergency rescue service plays an important part. God bless the emergency workers who risk their lives to save others.
Anyone looking into EMS as a career let me please tell you to reconsider. Unless its a municipal department, don't do it. Fuck EMS, its the worst career you could get involved with. Private companies post you on street corners all day and you drive in circles until you get a call. The community has no respect for us, same goes for FD's and PD's. This is a black hole career, so please get a real job or you'll be miserable like the rest of us. Only volleys like being EMT's and Medics.
@redemption762 I do love people that whine about their jobs. Maybe it's not for everyone but I know people who love it. It is a REAL job because you have to work at it. You could save someone's life in the process. Who cares about respect of the community. Most people talk sh&t no matter what. If you're miserable change careers. Don't down the others that do this with their heads held high!
@shaniebug Nah, hes right...private EMS where im from doesnt do much 911 type duty, mainly transports for DC pts. to NH ,Dr appointments, and some mundane ER trips from NH not even worthy of 911 being called. The fact is, where Im from private EMS is a transport mostly job, nothing real EMS providers desire to do,and those who like doing it are the type of EMT s who want tot hte title without the blood and gore, and who likely are worth a crap on a real scene anyhow.
@CyanoticFuture Unfortunately where I'm from we have nothing but private run EMS . . . our community could care less about funding it's own safety and the EMTs I know love their job and work very hard . . . the volunteer FD is sh*t and we don't have any other type of FD . . . our PD is even worse . . . seems like the only ones who are doing their jobs around here is the EMS.
@shaniebug Or they cant get on a full time FD ( who provide the majority of 911 EMS in this area ) or arent even a member of vol. / part time dept., unless they do private EMS for a 2nd job. part time.."easy money"...I dunno, does your private co. run 911 where you are, coz most communities would never allow that to happenhere..for good reason....one private co. refusing to go to a dying kid in awreck coz they are busy 50 years ago, and within a decade, all 911 ems was given to FDs
@redemption762 - i kno a bunch of EMTs nd medics that r not volunteers nd they love their jobs. yeah, u gotta work at it, go 2 "school" constantly 4 continuing ed credits, refresh things like cpr ev 1-2 yrs, dont get paid much, nd dont get thank u's from ev pt. so what. u save a life. that should mean a lot to u. most of ur calls r bullshit but the 1's that arent r big. Stand strong, save a life, b a hero, nd b proud of it. otherwise, leave. its ppl like u that cause ppl 2 not like EMS.
@redemption762 It really depends on where you work! Any field of employment has its ups and downs. I am a career EMT, soon to be Medic, who works for a private service. We do not drive around in circles all day, and when we post in a location other than one of our stations or substations, there is a good reason (eg, providing mutual aid coverage for a neighbouring service). EMS is not for everyone, I agree, but being able to make a difference in someone's life is a feeling beyond compare.
As a Medic and a Firefighter, I will be the first to tell you, on an emergency scene no one is exempt from work. Just cause you are EMS doesn't mean that you can't help out when its needed... like rolling hose for instance. ( Just remember, who is gonn a be in the back doing compressions during a code? Thats right, a Firefighter aka "A Hose Roller".
3:00 gotta hate calls like that. Love the reaction from dispatch when you call to let them know you're delayed at the hospital for decon. great video!
I for one am a little skeptical of people who balance being a firefighter and a medic at the same time, however I can call more than one firefighter/paramedic family and friend, and they do it well. Let's remember this isn't a compition between Fire and EMS.
@hornsandtails27 Oh trust me I do appreciate the FD. Its one big family, in my opinion, fire, ems, and police. When we work together, we really work together. One of my good friends is a firefighter, and we are on calls together all the time. We mess with eachother all the time about what we do.
Yea but when you get to the hospital they say, "Oh hey you dont have life insurance....okayy so how about you pay $8,000 for an ambulance ride..." Watch the movie sicko before you respond....Fuck american Health care........And yes i am american
i encourage you brother i am an emt and firefighter... in ems you have OS and BS... but just remeber the rules of ems.. if it's not breathin, make it! if it is bleeding stop it! it is NOT your emergency don't make it, and if worse comes to worse if it dies you will get another. i know that sounds harsh but in reality that is how it is....
Sounds similar to what my wife told me at the start of my training. Air goes in and out. Blood goes round and round. Any variation of that and you have a problem.
just remember dude.. ems is 98% bull shit 1% aww shit and 1% oh shit!...im learning that in my refresher right now haha! oh and real emt's dont roll hose...
@hornsandtails27 i completely disagree im an emt and i roll hose for my fire dept. so before sayin somethng like that remember you deal with an ambulance so do i but while your runnin out of a house on fire im running in
Awesome video. I'm a high school junior right now, but I'll be starting training for my EMT-B in September. My school has a program where you are in school for half of the school day and the other half you spend becoming EMT-B certified. It's going to be amazing!
that my friend is how the back of an ambulance looks like when you have fire doing compressions, an ACP trying to intubate and another trying to start a line. :)
Love this song, love this video. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. For all of you in training and thinking about a career in EMS, welcome to the family and best of luck...there is not a better life out there!
Lovin the tribute!!! but ya'll have really good and well packaged ambulances...dammit..lol..all we have is toyota hiace one...cant complain really..but we try....nice vid..keep it up

can't agree more, as a paramedic student and CPR/AED instructor. ITS the defibrillation that works. Early recognition, Early call (999 911) Early CPR, Early De-fib, Early, ALS/ transport. LEARN CPR
Just started the EMT-B Class, I start the paramedic in August, its great to see people on the blogging sites that actually appreciate those in the business. Thanks for the great video! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the video. I have been a volunteer EMT for over a year and I know that anyone who does this job respects the work of eachother and any recognition given. We go out there day in and day out and all we ever look for is just a smile. We don't expect a thank you, a hand shake, money, or a hug. It's our job and lives we dedicate to you all.
This vid rocks! It's so nice how people really do appreciate the work us EMS personnel do every single day to support and serve the local community. Thank you so much the love is really appreciated!
Thank you for this great video..I have been in the EMS community for about 4 years and can not imagine me doing anything else. I have worked paid on-call for a municipality and for a private service, and can agree that we do not get paid enough. Do we really do this for the money or because we know that we have the talent and knowledge to give someone a second chance at life. Giving someone their loved one back, for just a little while longer. I'd like to believe that.
ALL Paramedics, ambulance crews, doctors, nurses everywhere on earth are fucking brilliant and worthy of nothing but respect in my opinion. And firemen while were at it and a good % of cops too.
NHS and ambulance service have saved my life personally on more than one occasion. Fuckin great song!
For all of you who say being an EMT is just a "job"... how about this?! I watch my fiance come home from a night of no sleep at all, go to school, and head out to his job at the hospital later. He barely makes any money at all doing it, has trouble sleeping at times from all the trama he sees, and still continues to do it because he loves helping people. He has a main source of income at his other job... so if it's just a "job" and not a passion, why would he do it? Thanks for the video guys!!!
Who here or anywhere else is implying that EMS is "just" a job?
What has been discussed is the impact that volunteers inadvertently have on depressing EMS wages for everybody because they do not force states and municipalities to adequately fund our country's EMTs and paramedics.
Here's a tip I have a friend and she is a MSN and she only makes $25,000.00 a year working at a hospital in the walk in clinic.Nurses have it no better. EMT's in the town where I live only make $6.50 per hour, And on our city fire department there is only three paid firefighters.Everyone else in the county is a unpaid volunteer. It is not about the money it is about taking care of people.
100% True. Im an FDNY Paramedic and city employees get paid very little but i would still do the job if they didnt pay me. i love my job, sure the money is nice, but its not why i do it.
Thank you for the video! I appreciate it. I have been running EMS for 8 years and love seeing the tributes. This was one of the better ones I have seen. Thanks for taking the time to put this together and showing your support, its not something we often get.
Working 60-100 hrs per week consistently in a busy urban EMS system and getting paid $10-$15 an hour isn't something I do simply because it's fun. I do it because it also pays my bills and will afford me to get more education. BSN's can make over a hundred thousand a year pretty easily. Paramedics can expect not even half of that. How is acknowledging that this is totally F-ed up a manifestation of greed? Pray tell.
I'm a student nurse and a volunteer EMFR (the grade no longer exists) i'm traing to be an EMT B next year and i cant wait to get out there and make a diffrence. If I had to do it all for free, I would.
I have been on the streets now as a Proffessional EMT in a large city and its surrounding suburbs for over 2 years. We are the forgotten, the most important people you will never know or thank. We are forgotten by our employers and by those politicians that harp about helping first responders, but one day we will stand over them all when they are in need and at that moment they will finally appreciate what we do. TO all EMT's and Medics just remember there is no such thing as an amulance driver!
im 16 an i volunteer as a first aid cadet for my local first aid and rescue squad and i have so much fun doing it ive meet so many people go to ems calls and ive seen so much but love doing it cause u get a great feeling while doing it
Ive only just recently got my EMT cert and ill have to say weather its someone that just fell or a huge MCI i always feels like i made a big difference. It's just sad that no one wants to do anything volunteer anymore....
I've been a medic for going on eleven months, and I'm still amazed at a career that I never thought twice about until I was going through the college brochure. It's unfortunate that we're not as noticed as FD or PD, but in the end, knowing that we save lives on a daily basis is well worth it.
I am a brand new EMT out here in arizona. Ive seen alot and already saved someones life. Its good to know people are greatful for what we do. thank you.
That was a great video. My husband that I have been married to for 2 months now is a firefighter/EMT. Its tough sometimes for both of us as you know sometimes they will have alot of calls and are not home alot of time. But I really enjoyed this video!! Thank you!!
I can also only say thanks! A realy nice vid! Im a paramedic in Germany. I do this in my freetime, too. But the work of all these volunteers who stand beside festivals and concerts and care about the drunken or hurt ones is also as important as the ones who drive to crashed cars.
I am an EMT with a small town ambulance and even smaller fire department, and we have 6 first responders for our fire district. I appreciate any video that gives us thanks.
I've only been a basic since May of '07. In a couple of weeks, I'm starting my Intermediate class (my experience as a basic has been somewhat limited, so I want to get that step in between basic and medic before I end up in over my head and killing a pt). Should be a good time. I know, I know, just about everyone says I'm wasting time and money going to the intermediate class. I've heard it a thousand times now. But I'm still doing it, but for me personally, i think it's the best option.
don't feel bad about what others say...you're right to do what's best for you! Sometimes little baby steps get you to where you want to be faster than that one giant step...I've learned and am continuing to learn this.
as an emt from pa i cant thank you enough. it makes me feel as if the countless hours of volenteer ems are a small price to pay for the feeling you get for just one thanks.
Nice Job! Great first shot lol, my BCAS in front of StPauls Hospital (probably stn's 248&242's cars) I worked 248B/C this block so StPauls is a second home. Thanx again.
Their is nothing like the feeling of helping someone else in need, I love being an EMT

SetApart4Him87 3 years ago

It is not about the money it is about taking care of people.
swatson1190 3 years ago

Pray tell.

I've been a medic for going on eleven months, and I'm still amazed at a career that I never thought twice about until I was going through the college brochure. It's unfortunate that we're not as noticed as FD or PD, but in the end, knowing that we save lives on a daily basis is well worth it.

I can also only say thanks! A realy nice vid! Im a paramedic in Germany. I do this in my freetime, too. But the work of all these volunteers who stand beside festivals and concerts and care about the drunken or hurt ones is also as important as the ones who drive to crashed cars.

How many years have you been a basic? What's stopping you from becoming a medic?
sleepcity 3 years ago
I've only been a basic since May of '07. In a couple of weeks, I'm starting my Intermediate class (my experience as a basic has been somewhat limited, so I want to get that step in between basic and medic before I end up in over my head and killing a pt). Should be a good time. I know, I know, just about everyone says I'm wasting time and money going to the intermediate class. I've heard it a thousand times now. But I'm still doing it, but for me personally, i think it's the best option.
UptonEMT 3 years ago
don't feel bad about what others say...you're right to do what's best for you! Sometimes little baby steps get you to where you want to be faster than that one giant step...I've learned and am continuing to learn this.
