simply one of the best modern westerns of the 80s- and to this day never forgotten. For the Billy the Kid in all of us. Emilio Estevez was born to play this role.'
even tho historically there never was a "dirty steve" there was a charlie bowdry tho ...neither was killed at mcsweens house, ...still made me sad to see them die..and in such a epic brutal way as well...
@MrDontstareitsrude he didnt get shot in the mouth. he got shot in the stomach and blood came out of his mouth. but he did take like five shots in the chest and was still standin for a second. i guess you can say he was tougher.
Ah ok i got that bit wrong, but you just proved wat i said, Buckshot Roberts was one tough SOB!
1 thing i find amazing, is that the Robert's shot that killed Brewer was extrodinary. He had been mortally wounded, under fire from the Regualtors out front, had one arm he could only barely raise, & didn't even know who it was he was firing at, when good old Dick Brewer, according to Frank Coe, was struck square in the middle of the forehead & tore off the top of his head. Hell of a shot I'd say !
Been readin witnesses's reports, Roberts was not nervous at all, "he was as cool as you please"
He & regulator Charlie Bowdre shot at each other at the same time from point blank range. Roberts bullet bounced off Charlies belt buckle & hit another Regulator severin his fingers. But Bowdres bullet hit Roberts right in the gut " Bowdre's bullet struck Roberts in the chest & went clear through him
He was sick from his wound; I could hear him groaning but his fighting spirit was as brave as ever"
" Dick Brewer snuck around back & peeked over a pile of logs when Roberts shot him between the eyes killing him instantly.
Although, out numbered, badly wounded & in considerable pain, Roberts gave his enemies a run for their money.
Even Billy the Kid would later admit to a friend: “Yes sir, he licked our crowd to the finish.” The Regulators left Roberts to die & sought much needed medical attention for their wounded men. "
Upon seeing Buckshot Roberts it wasn't a straight up shoot off.
One of them, Frank Coe, sat with Roberts on the steps of the main house & tried to talk him into surrendering. The old gunman refused, believing he would be killed by the vengeful cowboys.
The shootout started later.
Buckshot Roberts died the next day, the Regualtors knowing he was fatally wounded, fled away from him
"Stunned by the turn of events, & demoralized by their casualties, the Regulators pulled out & left the area"
In real life Buckshot Roberts was going to collect his cheque from the outskirts of Lincoln & it just so happened that the Regulators were hiding out next to that house.
They were hiding in the outskirts because they had killed Sheriff Brady 3 days earlier (in the movie buckshot roberts is killed before Brady)
They had a warrant for him as they believed he took part in the killing of Tunstall. But it was proved years later that BS Roberts had nothing to do with John Tunstalls murder.
Buckshot Roberts was not after the bounty on their heads in real life. He was an old war vetron & wanted nothing to do with the Lincoln war. He was selling his house & waiting for the cheque so he could move.
But the actual Buckshot Roberts scene is one rare scene which is not over exaggerated by the Movies. Oh hell broke lose in this shoot off, this guy really did give one final show down in real life.
He killed Dick & wounded several other regulators, despite being fatally wounded
Ps. In real life, there were more than 20 regulators. At the time of Lincoln County war (that was decipted in 1st Young Guns) there were 11 regulators.
Brilliantly put together! A fantastically made tribute to two of the best westerns ever made. Well done firefox. Awesome!

Found this on Wiki:
" Dick Brewer snuck around back & peeked over a pile of logs when Roberts shot him between the eyes killing him instantly.
Although, out numbered, badly wounded & in considerable pain, Roberts gave his enemies a run for their money.
Even Billy the Kid would later admit to a friend: “Yes sir, he licked our crowd to the finish.” The Regulators left Roberts to die & sought much needed medical attention for their wounded men. "
What does licked our crowd to the finish mean?

I love Buckshot Roberts, he's one tough dude to go after the regulators on his own.
He even tells them before the gun fight in real life that he's come for the Bounty on Kid Antrim's head [Billy the kid]
In real life he didn't shoot Dick in the chest, he shot Dick right between the eyes, killing him instantly
He killed their leader and injured a few others including Billy, on his own.
Billy was known to have told friends in Mexico later on " Buckshot Roberts gave us a good run for our money "
