Basic message of 60s was Peace--in a sense this was what lot of music was about--but when country was trying to fight Cold War, or version being fought in Vietnam, this was unacceptable to government--this is why there was so much conflict. There was a huge amount of anti-war energy and huge effort by government to squelch hippies, protesters, rockers, etc. Basic situation hasn't changed. US military remains in charge of the country. If enough people realized this, we'd have the 60s back.
