This is simply wonderful - thanks. I found your video via a link on a C Melody site - I wonder whether these saxes will have a resurgence - they will do if more people hear this music - thanks again
what horn have you here? ive never heard this type of sound before, real deep and rich for an alto almost sounds like a bari playing reall high altissimo
is there any setups you might recommend for classical work? I'm particularily interested in your setup for the bass saxophone and for the glazunov video. good to see a fellow bass saxophonist!
without hearing you, and knowing what sound you look for, it is impossible to recommend something. On my Keilwerth bass I use a very old Conn Eagle mouthpiece with no 4 Vandorens and an GF ligature.
I could not find your setup for the glazunov anywhere. Could you please tell me? Have you tried the Rascher pieces? Could you tell me what you think of Rascher and Caravans?
Just a question but have you tried the Eppelheism low A bass saxophone? I had the opportunity to play one and what an instrument! Absolutely astonished, beats my buescher any day!
As for setups, I couldn't find the glazunov setup, was it the same as the pequena czarda setup? I'm just trying to find out what I might want to take a look at
I guess I prefer vintage horn. It is difficult to find modern horns that have as much center and projection as many old instruments. For every project (different styles of music) there is an ideal horn. (I'm a collector...)
might you recommend one classical and one jazz horn? for classical i mean dark focused sound that is very sweet. for jazz i want a little punch to it and lots of core
does the new melody sound any different in general? i know its in a different key but i mean if i played concert F on my alto and the C melody played an F would it sound the same? it seems that way in the video
the lenght of the tube and construction of a saxophone have a very big impact on the sound, quite obviously.
apart from that, if you play a concert f, fingered d on your alto, the c melody will be playing in a different register, which will also sound different....
sorry i overlooked that...now i feel quite foolish. what mouthpiece might you recommend to get that full warm tone in your video? or the one used in your glazunov concerto video. btw I am a HUGE fan. you are my favorite classical player of the saxophone
On the C melody you have to make sure that you find an actual C melody mouthpiece, otherwise the measurements of the alto or tenor mouthpiece that you might be using will cause the instrument to be very much out of tune. It also won't do the tone any good...
well yes i understand that. i am looking for a good classical alto mouthpiece. i very much love the sound in your glazunov concerto videos. any mouthpiece you might recommend for that sort of sound other than the one you used? i was considering a caravan for a warm dark tone but i am not a pro like you
Beautiful performance. This shows how good a C-Melody can sound. I have several Conn straight-necks. They are rather clumsy to get around, but you would never know it watching this video. I love the C-Melody sound.
Wow! Excellent! I have been considering a C Melody sax for a while now....but I have never heard a recording of one besides jazz exerpts. Thank you for posting this, I see it deserves a place in classical as well. Flawless preformance.

@XdarkdomainX it's a C melody. A Conn New Wonder straight Neck C Melody from 1921 to be precise

Hey, does the ligature matter to the sound the saxophone produces? Ohh and my ligature looks exactly the same as yours. Just a heads up.
cameron935 1 year ago
Which ligature is used in this video? I believe it would be a rovner? I feel they reduce reed vibration, what makes you like them?
SaxophoneProductions 2 years ago
it's not a Rovner. it's a very old ligature, which is basically just a piece of leather and a screw.
All the gadgets and stuff that is on the market today is highly overrated, for the most part.

The setup on my Glazounov vid is listed there.
all the best

such a simple piece, i probably could have played this after my first week of saxophone (well i did play piano earlier so i had an advantage)
but I know i could not play nearly as well as this!!!
such a simple piece but with such core, such tone, such a fat, warm sound!!! you turned mary had a little lamb into a classical beauty!

just wondering on your general opinion, do you prefer vintage or modern horns. what would be your favorite vintage horn and your favorite modern one?

Bravo! Bravo!
This is a simply stunning performance that shows the C melody in a new light!
I'm studying for my saxophone diploma currently, and am greatly inspired by your playing!

Magnificent! In can not imagine a more telling interpretation. One wonders why the transposing Bb was necessary at all.
