I remember the innings against the WI (i think edgbaston) where England crumbled and he stood alone, there was no one on that team braver to stand up to the WI quicks.........and there certainly isn't anyone in the England team now. I wonder how the new generation of batsmen would react to a true fast bowler on a demon pitch................
This is classic cricket-Long boundaries, Fast pitch(of course its WACA)4 runs per over, batsman needs to work hard even against mediocre bowling because of juice in the wicket-Love it
Ah, Robin Smith. One of the most underrated batsmen of the last 20 years. His records would be up there with the top batsmen of today's era, had he been playing today against inferior bowling attacks and batting-friendly pitches.
Just a quick question: Who's the Aussie commentator at 2:35? His voice sounds familiar, but can't remember the name. I believe he commentated in the recent India vs Australia ODI series in India
Brilliant batsman.... in my lifetime I would say he was the best I've seen! This lot we have today are just show-ponies who are playing against rubbish bowling attacks compared to those faced by Smith. He would of out averaged all of them in this era if he was around.
Too true! Convert the bowling Smithy faced in the 90s, to the rubbish on show nowadays and he'd average 54, not 44. Atherton would've been over 40 as well
i didnt watch Judge much but later i got to know that he was terrific against WI quicks...that made me respect him....this innings is against an ordinary attack...also 1990s was when cricket was at its best...so many good bowlers...the reasons i made this vid as my fave.
I remember the time when he cut the South African attack to ribbons in a one-dayer (he scored 160 odd!!)
But he was equally terrible against quality spin. The tour to India in 1993 badly exposed this. Then came the Ashes when Warne and Tim May got the better of him. That was the beginning of the end for who I consider to be one of the best players of fast bowling.
can you please put the entire highlights of this match

Best square cut in world cricket, and not as bad against spin as some people think - most people suffered against Warne!

He would have flourished under Duncan Fletcher.

He gave an afterdinner at our cricket club and was a great speaker. I had the pleasure of meeting him and he's a quality bloke.

Quite agree. Problem is, is that Ray Illingworth and the people in charge seemed to do nothing to help the man.
He had a good 6-8years left at test level.
Could never quite believe how the Ramps, Crawleys, Knights and the Hicks of this world got chance after chance and the Judge got nowt!

I tell ya, there aren't amny batsmen around today that were as good as this bloke against the quicks.
Bowling today is substandard compared to the 80's generation!
