My husband used to have 2 golden retriever and we got one few months ago. He is a most smrat dog i've ever train my mylife. They are good with kids and so smart , sometime too smart that he try to trick me :).
We had a golden retriever that was 4 who had his own personality. We didn't see him as a pet we saw him as a family member. I suggest this breed to anyone looking for a dog!
These are great dogs. I grew up with working breeds---German Shepherds and Dobermans---and didn't think a retriever breed would ever hold much interest for me. But after getting to know several Golden Retrievers I can see now why they have become so popular. They are intelligent, loving animals that are also robust and strong. I've come to admire them a lot and I can't think of a better family dog, especially with small children, than a Golden Retriever.
we just have golden retriever puppy... ilove her 'coz she is so calm.. I ,myself scared of dog but with this puppy we got everything change , she likes to sleep on my lap and my 6yr old and 2 yr old love her too..Hope this puppy wont change...i want her to be calm for the rest of her lives...
I bought my my Golden Retreiver for 100$ from a Breeder and he his a awesome dog he is a little wild but he keeps getting better and better. He listens very well too, they are a,azing dogs
Most registered breeders would not be that cheap - simply because the paperwork needed and vet costs of properly seeing a golden retriever through to giving birth are so high (unless money is no object to them). Another option is adoption of an older golden retriever. Many golden retrievers are given up for adoption through no fault of their own (work commitments, family splits etc.) and they would love to be the centre of a new family.
I'm looking for a Golden retriever breeder to buy my very first dog. I noticed that prices range from $300 up to $1,200 from breeder to breeder and higher for the cream colored ones. I just want a golden one so I'm focusing on the $300-$1,200. Do you really get what you pay for? Has anyone out there paid the lower price for a pure bred Golden and has a great dog? Healthy, good temperament, etc...?
Hi, My husband and I purchased a golden from a backyard breeder 5 years ago for $400. She is beautiful (not show quality, but very pretty) and is an extremely well behaved dog (VERY easy to train). She does have a medical issue though. She has a severe hypo-thyroid condition, which requires medication twice a day. I think it's best to adopt from a reputable breeder for around $600-800 to insure health and temperament of the animal - upwards becomes show quality, which you don't really need.
i brought my golden retriver home 9 years ago and hes been picture perfect ever sence they just fall in to the routine of their owners and they are smart enough to know write from wrong my dogs always been good but i know im sounding overboard a little but thats just how they are
Goldens are a calm breed and so would be a breed that might be well suited from that point of view. If you have a specific issue though then you would probably be better advised to seek professional help (from a qualified dog trainer / whisperer) when you are working with any dog.
i was thinking of getting a golden retriever puppy but i heard that you cant growl or get angry at them. I dont do this to animals but i was wondering how i can be firm but not mean if you get me??
Tone of voice has a lot to do with it. Even without knowing what the words mean they can tell when you are happy with them. A short harsher sound (like 'a') will let them know if they are doing, or about to do, something you don't like. With training it is often more productive to praise what they are doing right, rather than punish anything that may be wrong.
I'm seriously looking into getting a Golden Retriever because I really want a dog and they seem like a great choice-- they're smart and nice, not to mention beautiful.
I won't rule out puppy classes but I'd really like to be able to train the dog myself, both for the benefit of the personal interaction and of saving the cost of obedience school. Unfortunately, I've never really trained a dog before. Are Goldens easy to train if you're dedicated enough, or should I just seek professional help?
Goldens are relatively easy to train compared to many other breeds. One of the main benefits to puppy classes is that it will help with socializing your puppy to other people and dogs. It is also fun. :-) Even if you do go to classes, you will still need to work on your puppy's training at home.
yeah its a good thing to train dogs, but dont overdo it...they still need to be able to have fun and this video slightly makes it seem as if dogs do everything the owner says w/o even considering the dog's natural behaviors.
Such wonderful advice! So many people treat dogs like they're just another item they're supposed to have like an obnoxiously large SUV, HD TV, or XBOX360. Dogs are part of the family and require time and training commitments.
Excellent advice. I cannot imagine anyone thinking a dog would not need training. That would be like not potty training children or teaching them manners. Thanks for the referral to the site too. I have always continued teaching and training my dogs even after their first obedience class as puppies because we enjoy it, it's something we can do together, and I think it's good to reinforce prior training and teach older dogs new tricks.

Lol, I love how you comment on someone not being smart enough to do something, but you spell the word "Right" incorrectly.
