Yeah, well, Wino is Christian, and he is "doom" if you ask me. Saint Vitus, Shine, Spirit Caravan, The Hidden Hand, Wino.... I'm not Christian yet I love what most people call "doom metal." Within about any genre, there are going to be people with myriad religious beliefs. Some will choose to sing about it, others won't. It's similar to black metal and politics. I love some NSBM bands. However, I could really care less about what they're singing about. All kinds of black metal too...
I wonder if maybe they're not on it because the name Southern Lord if you think about it has a satanic implication it, and Dale Flood wants nothing to do with satanic imagery associated with his music. Unorthodox has been labeled "doom metal" but they are really not about doom. They don't glorify despair. They are about having hope and trying to make the best out of bad situations. Listen to "The Gate" - "Reach out and pray for a better day...God shed a tear for you, God bled for higher truth"
