i never noticed Lee Rocker's forearm until this video. holy crap, he's got a toned forearm. what a grip.
but yeah, Brian Setzer's crooner-style voice is amazing, it's like he pulled it from the 40s, 50s, and 60s into his 80s era, and he's still singing amazing today. well long live Setzer and the Stray Cats.
Is that Jacket Brian is wearing, the self same Jacket that Jim wore outside Dennis Cockells place on the Finchley Road back in '81? Any nerds out here who know??? Mikey xx
I bought this single and I liked the B side better. That's right - this song. I love this song. No teenager anymore but this makes me feel like one! Thanx for posting.
@Tre404 - Actually, it's a Dorsey Burnette original. Ricky Nelson recorded several of Dorsey & Johnny's songs. (Waitin' In School, Believe What You Say, It's Late) There are Burnette Bros. demo recordings available from that period that are quite good also.
@Tre404 - two other people commented the same thing i did. Should've read all the comments first, i guess... :o) But anybody here who likes this, Rick Nelson, Johnny Burnette (Train Kept A Rollin), Gene Vincent etc. should check out the Burnette Bros. demo compilations (from early 60's) on Rockstar Records (UK) They're really good!
Brian understands the way rockabilly employed a load of guitarists with a jazz background and is never afraid to chuck a couple of great extended chords in there. He is a magnificent guitarist (better than he was ever a vocalist and his voice is increasingly shot to pieces). He gets rockabilly and has the technical prowess to push its boundaries too. That Christmas special was a hoot too! My fondest wish is that he hooks up with a vocalist. I reckon he could chart anywhere if he did that.
Hey! I think he's a great singer. I love the little growl/distortion he does a lot of the time. His vocals reflect the Cat's style, seemingly traditional but with a modern twist!
His voice deepened considerably throughout the years -- I prefer when it was a tad high in the beginning!
This is my favourite group for about 28 years. I'm very sad that they have to stop playing, because of the hearing problems of Brian Setzer. But first I'm going to the farewell concerts in Brussel and Amsterdam, september this year :D.
He's my one desire... it's obscene what he does to me. He's terribly underrated, to me he is the best guitarist ever-unbelievable versatile. ALL HAIL THE NEW KING OF ROCK!
Brian was hard working during the 80's. I mean, he traeted the trip to the uk as a job and while Jim and Lee were (quite rightly) living it up, brian sat in a flat in lancaster gate trying to write the next hits/episode in their success. I totally admire brian and all he was trying to do. And he ultimatelt succeeded, despite the fucking ripoffs, lawsuits and bust ups. Love ya Brian.. Mikey x
He's wearing a coat that jim picked up in Kings Road, but I don't remember whcih store. Jim wore it on a photo shoot outside Sir Dennis Cockells place on the Finchley Road.
Ha Ha ! I've been a fan since 1981. I have all the interviews and know one or two people also! the shop on Kings road was Johnson's, just adjacent to the Man In The Moon! How i wish it was 1981 again....
There is an audio version of rick,s original right here on you tube, just type in rick nelson slide show with music. Iam 95% sure about baker knight being the writer ,but I will double check. Rick once said this was a favorite of his.
As far as I can tell Dorsey Burnett wrote the original. I'm looking for a female singer who did a version of the song. I was in a record store, heard it, and loved it. I never thought to ask who it was. Shame. The Nelson version is great thanks for the link.
The original and I still believe the best version is from 1961 by the great rick nelson with of course screeming guitar work by james burton, can be found on lp rick is 21 or lp million sellers by rick/writen by baker knight
Can anyone tell me who wrote this song and where I can find other versions of it? I heard one version I really liked. Great slower version of this song sung by a female voice. Anyone know it?
this version punish real bad and just right ricky nelson was a just milk face non rockabilly
