  • @UltraGokin lucas came out with starwars plans in mid 70s..i think this came in the late 70s, no? actually star trek(which i simply cannot stand) beat both.

  • i never heard this intro before. right on. btw...japanese just released an actual starblazers movie last december. I GOTTTAAA SEEEEE ITTTTT!!!!

  • The second opening showed that Gundam's Tomino was on the storyboard team.

  • just gotta say, space battleship yamato is still better >8(

  • 0:42 I used to LOVE this show as a kid.... and was obviously too innocent to notice that these dudes wore suits with arrows pointing to their packages! WTH?!! lol!!

  • @oneohwon lol i agree..my brother and I actually had shirts like that made to exact specifications, but i made my arrow shorter and leaning to the left lmao. jp.

  • かっこいい!!

  • where is the japanese english version of the song from???????????????

  • ★Star Wars made in 1977 copyed the story from The Hidden Fortress made in 1958 Japan.

★And Star Wars copyed scenes from the Star Blazers(=Space Battleship Yamato) made in 1974 Japan.

  • @SamuraiTogo copied*.

  • 違和感なし!

  • This was my soap opera growing up. I remember my mother having to pull me from in front of the TV because I'm trying to watch this show while getting ready for school... Ahhh my childhood

  • my cousins has all three seasons of this the intros in japanesne

  • Fantastic song! I loved Star Blazers, hope someone makes a movie with FXeffects!!!

  • @jetset5964 Funny you should say that. Do a search for "Yamato""movie" and you'll find footage from the live action film coming out this December in Japan.

  • @Kellerwerks exactly. i'm seeing that shit at all costs. it looked TIGHTTTT!

  • Robotech was the shiznit though too.

  • This is classic anime! These guys are unstoppable. they beat the crap out og the Gamilons then they cleand house with the Comet Empire!

  • Space battleship Yamato!

  • It would appear as that in dec 2010 a movie on Staship Yamato will be released in theaters.

I would appreciate if anyone posted news about this which is more than just a rumor.

How many episodes? What's the exact date? all info appreciated.

  • when i watch this in 1974, i could not follow the story because the view of the world was too difficult.

  • I can't to see the live action movie in December.

    HELL YEAH!

  • Fortunately, I saw this show after school. One movie, Yamato: The New Voyage, is both a sequel to the COMET EMPIRE and a prequel to the BOLAR WARS episodes [with another cast] and some of the movies. Have these movies not yet been dubbed due to the poor reception of the BOLAR WARS, which weren't syndicated where I'd lived? I'm want to see a dubbed version of the live action film!

  • When I was a kid, I was late for school every day because I just had to see this every day. I would stop at my friends house on the way to school and we never missed an episode. Of course my mother was pissed when she found out, but I had to have it daily.

  • Wholy S**t I ve been looking for this for like 20yrs.LOL I remember when i was kid one morning i got up extra early casuse it was summer and school was out. I caught this toon but I didnt catch the intro so I never was able to figure out the name of it. I spent my whole life trying to remember it but i just couldnt since it wasnt as popular as say starwars or volty Wow thanks a lot. I ve alwayse wanted to track down this lost toon but I just couldnt remember the name.LOL

    Thank god for you tube

  • I watched the entire original first season of Star Blazers... glued to the TV. When it finished, I was excited to start watching it again. I'll never forget the day I tuned in expecting to see reruns of season 1 and discovered The Comet Empire series starting. Wow. Sci Fi soap operas for kids!

  • THIS WAS THE BEST T.V. SHOW THAT I SAW WHEN I WAS A CHILD

  • WAVE MOTION GUN AIM FIRE!!! classic

  • I watched this a few months ago, it was awesome. I love the theme song, our star blazers...

  • no les dije yo que el estaria muy orgullo de esta version Isao como te amo ojala cantes mas Yamato siempre caray

  • Wow. Just found an old drawing I made in 1980 with this show's title. I use to watch this cartoon every morning before class. Loved it. Guess you really can find anything on YouTube.

  • According to Sci-Fi rumors, this is where George Lucas got the idea for Star Wars and the Death Star, He got it all off of this cartoon series, Flash Gordon, and Akira Kurosawa's "Hidden Fortress" movie.

  • I remember hearing about a future USA feature movie regarding Star Blazers announced in 2007 but haven't heard anything since. Is this still a reality? Has anyone heard anything about this?

  • The Internet Movie Database says that a "Star Blazers" movie is planned for 2010, but not much more info is given.

  • I would watch this and then J.P. Patches. Then, unfortunately, I would have to go school, 2nd grade, with old Mrs. Hamilton. What the Hell!?

  • i can´t wait in 2009 than came new movie of starblazers ^^

  • wat?

  • They need to remake this live action or animated would be fine.

  • I know it was way ahead of its time.

  • its like ww2 right

  • The Best Show EVER...

  • Best Anime Or Scifi Show EVER~!

    Whoo Its The Comet Empire~!

  • @54spiritedwill54 damn right! WAY AHEAD of its time!

  • SAUDADE ... BONS TEMPOS QUE PASSAVA AQUI NO BRASIL NA REDE MANCHETE ... ME IS BRASILIAN ... FROM RIO DE JANEIRO ... LOVERS ANIMES ... SPECIALITY GROISER X,STAR BLAZERS and HOKUTO NO KEN

  • one of the best anime of all time, a true classic. I watched this show back when I was a kid. I own it on dvd. You need to watch the movies too.

  • My fav show growing up! I hear that a live action feature film is in the works. I want to be in it!

  • That's an old rumor.

  • Oops that's Kimba the White Lion.

  • Don't forget Kimball the White Lion and a face of min e-Gigantor!!!

  • Regarding what Kayrod29 said, this isn't the first anime to appear in the U.S. That credit goes to 1963's "Astro Boy". Unless that user was trying to say "anime" only in reference to part of Japanese, namely anime for adults (this is case of some otakus). Nevertheless, anime is still the official English-speaking term for Japanese animation in general.

  • I still refer to the Wave motion gun!! Damn, it was good to see that show again!!!

  • first anime to air in the United States.

  • what crack are you on??? ever hear of astro boy???

  • Before Starblazers there was Asto Boy, Speed Racer, Battle of the Planets AKA Gatchaman.

  • You're a butt dart.

  • Rumor has it Disney is making a Starblazers movie.

  • I think what you're thinking about is the movie they tried to make about thirteen years ago. That project was disintegrated because it was incredibly unfaithful to the original. The ship would have been the USS Arizona and not the Yamato, most of the characters would have been disregarded (including Orion and capatin Avatar) and Nova would have been an alien! If this isn't the case, where did you hear this and when is it comming out?

  • Thoe one I heard about I honestly forget where it was I heard it about 2 months ago, IMDB says you have to get a pay account to get any info on it and I cant bring myself to pay them money LOL. But I have my fingers crossed for a true Blazers flick.

  • actually what both of you are referring to are 2 different things. There was an effort in the late 90's but the idea was terrible. All different characters and there was not going to be a captain avatar. There is some production work being done though again with new people but its still in disneys court.

  • i'd like to see a new series.....since they have been doing so many harlock series..a new starblazers..or yamato could be done....and we need to see desslok again...he's an enemy who i was glad see become a friend

  • Good call on what copyright is about. We need to see see this much, but they deserve to be paid so see the shows, right?

  • This brings back good memories of a pastr relationship. The Girl got a kick out of it every time i sang the season 1 or season to song. After a while we filked the lyrics....and you don't want to know the rest. The Earth will survive and keep peace alive with OUR STARBLAZERS!!!!

  • OMG. The singing in the second half slays me! LOL!

  • I believe I was in Kindergarten when I started watching this series, I'm 33 now. It totally blew me away as a kid and after watching this, I absolutely would not watch those garbage loony tunes or Flintstones, or any of those other crappy ass shows. I still watch Anime to this day thanks to this great show.

  • I was about nine when this "infected" me with the anime bug...

I'm 34 now..and have been "otaku" ever since...

    TO THE ANIME REVOLUTION!!!!!

  • Oh my god....

I first see it now after 25 years...

    best cartoon ever.

    No doubt about it

  • Boy this brings back memories. I watched this as a 7 year old in Toronto and had no idea that it was Japanese. This is the greatest anime series ever and reached Star Wars status in Japan. Heard the uncut version featured shots of Nova's ass uncovered. Wish they hadn't cut that!

  • exobr,

eu comprei em sao paulo toda a serie.

Comics nao sei o que o nome da loja.

  • Is that George Takei singing the original theme? LOL

  • Isao Sasaki, who sings the Japanese intro

  • F*ckn Commet Empire Wankers, Bastards.

  • i used to see all episodes as i was a small boy... i loved it...and still do now!!!!!!

  • Great cartoon! There are lots of people like me, from Brazil, who loved and grew together with the Star Blazers (Patrulha Estelar, in portuguese).

It is the best cartoon, ever!

  • this was original japenese anime on saturday morning..the best

  • With all the bullshit they don't do stuff like this any more!

  • I loved this...hated G force in comparison as a kid.

  • I understand your point in your comparison. Trouble with with G-Force was that the transition to US TV resulted in a total butcher job. The whole 7-Zark-7 bits were not in the original series. The real Gatchman series is actually darn good. Star Blazers alhough edited didn't suffer as bad a butchering.

  • Agreed, I saw it first hand..I worked for Carl Maceck one Summer in orange CA. I was the one who sorted all the Heavy Metal cels into packets. He is the translation and broguht Macross to the states. The japan and american version were totally different as told to me by himself. I was in the fifth grade at the time and only got paid store credit. GRRRR! You cheapass Carl whereever you are.

  • da best cartoon ever iuse to watch this back in da phillipines i love da sound tract

  • The Best Show EVER...

  • I used to also run home and watch this after school. It played on Channel 5 (WNEW) in 1977 to around 1980. And yes, THIS WAS WAY AHEAD OF IT'S TIME, and a DAMN FINE SHOW. Arrigato, Nishizaki and Matsumoto San!

  • I never thought I'd get to see this ever again. I used to love this when I was a kid. Damn, am I that old now?

  • Yes. LOL! (Loved this show.....One of my gavorites!)

    :)

  • Yes you are.. sobekain... :-)

  • God! I used to love this show when I was young!

  • love starblzaers

  • 2 questions: Does the Wave-Motion Engine have any visible exhaust? (Seen yes & No) Do the fighters use the wave-motion engine also?

  • I have dvd and once you get over the age gap the show is still as good as it was when i was young

  • Brings back a lot of memories, and I love them all, thanks!

  • I used to run home every day to watch. Does that make me a geek, I was only 12

  • That doesn't make you a geek..it made you a Great Fan of a GREAT SHOW...i have the VHS..THIS WAS THE BEST SHOW EVER HANDS DOWN...WAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME!

  • ah..the thing that made me an otaku... I LOVE the works of Leiji Mastumoto

  • What's an otaku???

  • "Otaku" is a Japanese term used to describe those who are particuarly fond of cult TV shows, cartoons, and the like to the near point of obsession. Or in lesser terms where it's not as serious, a "nerd" basically.

  • Thanks. Yeah, basically what this guy said...the word "otaku" is of Japanses origin... literaly translated, it means "your house" or "your home"... however, in a more coloquial sense, it means "obsessive" (the closest term would be "fanboy").

"otaku" is what most anime fans use to call themselves..in fact, theres even an anime con called "otakon".

I hope that clears things up a bit...

  • It's hard to go back and watch the English versions after having the original "Space Battleship Yamato" movies in Japanese. I still love the cartoon though...

  • classic great upload

  • my anime preferer, but yamato is original name

  • Love The Sound of the Wave Motion Gun...

  • I never heard the second intro before. I remember the Comet Empire version and the first season version. Was that second one a UK opening by any chance?

I agree with the sentiment that this was a great anime, even in its butchered US version. I watched this show religiously when I was a kid.

  • This cartoon was great and it was during a time when anime in America was good. It's sad that anime has gone from cartoons like this one to cartoons like pokemon.

  • Expand your horizons there's helluva lot more to anime than whats on TV.

  • I remember this.I loved it.

  • aahhh yess....this has been etched on my brain for ages

  • thats isao sasaki-san!

  • The japanese version is better

  • When The Show Used to Open in the States...When The Opening Song would come on...when the Astro Fighter Gets shot..you hear it getting hit

  • I'd love to see this original English open and close as they were broadcast--there was no graphic at the top, and the close featured the old Claster Television logo.

  • thank you, never saw this for shure more then 20 years, i love it
