Leaves from the vine,Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam. Little soldier boy Come marching home. Brave soldier boy Comes marching home. Those leaves did grow From branches overgrown. Drifting slowly down, Resting on the foam. Little soldier boy Taken from home, Forced to fight a war That's not his own. Leaves from the vine, Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam. Little soldier boy says, "Carry me home". Sleeping soldier boy Is carried home.
Mako made Iroh such an awesome character! The newer voice actor is decent, but it's just not the same. He runs his words together to much. And it is Mako in "Tale of Iroh." It's the last episode he recoded before he was taken from us. This song gives me the chills.
I don't think any animated series quite impacted me as much as Avatar did. Hell, I don't think any form of art has. I've been shaken to tears more than one time by this series, whether it be tears of awe, tears of sadness or tears of laughter. This is probably the greatest show that has existed, and ever will exist.
I reaaally like how the voice actor put so much emotion into this and let me tell you, finding a passionate voice actor in america is as difficult as finding bad beer in Germany.
Zuko sees his uncle in jail, Iroh says nothing I cried.
Iroh took Ba Sing Se, i smiled.
He took the walled city. No for the fire nation, but for the Earth benders and for the world. I wish the Battle to re-take Ba Sing Se were a whole episode. Since all the Lotus Masters are BADASS, Specially Iroh and the King of Omashu.
This song represents this entire series for me... I watched it for a good portion of my childhood, and then it ended, but I still think about it, and this song plays in my head.
Since then a ton of things have happened to me, and I can actually feel and understand this song better then I did before.
@RiuTheNinja that made me laugh so hard ( what part of the song ) i was thinking and its mid pout lolololololo , i was expecting ( leaves from the vine )
"Leaves from the vine.. Falling so slow.. like fragile tiny shells, drifting in the snow.. little soldier boy, come marching home... braaaave soldier boy.. comes marching hoomeee..."
@deatheaater999 Well screw you,the show was great.Shows like this and animes actually bring more real life emotions and cruelty then real Hollywood movies who soften everything up.They show the pain war brings, the ideals people have, the good and the bad.I watch Hollywood movies and South Park too, they are fun and all but they are lacking in depth, and they are worried some movies will butthurt ppl too much,so they ban, censor or move some movies to after midnight so little people can see them.
You guys are forgetting that the Death of Mako made Iroh like this. Before Mako was killed, Iroh was the Dragon of the West, remember? He was just like Iroh, but Mako's death softened him, and Iroh helped Zuko in Honor of Mako.
So out of Iroh's sorrow over Mako, emerged his second son, loved just as greatly, Zuko.
Lets get this straight, because many seem to be confused: Mako (Makoto Iwamatsu) is the voice actor of Iroh in the first book, and the second book until the tales of ba-sing-se (it might have been the rest of book 2, also. Im not sure). I believe he died of throat cancer on July 21, 2006. The son of Iroh is named Lu Ten, who died it war.
Iroh was then voiced by Greg Baldwin for the remainder of the series.
The "In honor of Mako" was honoring the death of Makoto, not Lu Ten.
Basically, yeah. Except that Mako voiced the rest of season 2 rather than just until Tales of Ba Sing Sei. They displayed the message "In Honor of Mako" at the end of Iroh's tale because he died near the time the episode aired. Either way, he is greatly missed.
R.I.P. Mako Iwamatsu you will be missed severely i did not know you personally but i admired your work in some movies and just know that you will be missed a lot by your family, friends, and fellow actors and actresses. You are in a better place now.
my friend just left the country to move to switzerland and another friend of mine shared his leaving with this song on facebook. I never watch Avatar but this song made me cry.
@Jackalofdeath hey buddy fuck you i like this show ok, i like it alot more than southpark ok. its just my name you fucking troll if theres anybody who dosent desrive to watch this show its you.
There is something truly sad when we find a character who is known for always being jolly, kind, and funny. Then we discover that he harbors a pain that is one of the worst a person can feel. I always feel like crying when I hear this
I would have to agree with AllyAlly1620 in that Iroh wasn't the wise sensei we knew during the wars and he may have gone down a darker path if his son hadn't died, but much of the sadness in the world is caused by humanity's violence and evil done to itself. As for the song, it always makes tears well up in my eyes and I pray that Mako may rest in peace.
I know this is just a cartoon, but this really really gets to me. Uncle Iroh is probably one of the wisest people ever. He never asked for any of this. D:
@firebirdcas thats only partly true, there was the concept of the dragons. he faked killing them so they would not die out, so he was not heartless. also he was a member of the white lotus or something. i think iroh was the only true fire-bender. Zuko became one through Iroh's training and guidance, and his torment. if Iroh became the fire lord he would have returned them to the way they should have been.
So long as there will be war, sad songs like this will always be sung. Consider that and please consider taking action to the government repeal the Selective Service System - I don't want my mom and my dad to have to cry while singing this one day.
such is the tragedy of war, the wise and gentle must mourn the losses of those close to them. if only the world would take a lesson from this simple song
This makes me cry every time, Iroh didn't deserve this. His son shouldn't have died. He is the kindest and most caring person in the whole Fire Nation! He didn't deserve it.
@AllyAlly1620 He was attacking the Earth Kingdom and trying to conquer it, he wasn't so nice before his son died, which is what made him change into the man we know him as.
@AllyAlly1620 You don't really understand, his son had to die or iroh wouldn't be the person he is. He was invading ba sing se and he only stopped that because his son died. Do you get that? He was invading and killing a huge city of people and it likely wasn't his first campaign either. His son's death made him see what he was really doing.
@AllyAlly1620 Iroh was a not so good person when he was a general attacking the earth kingdom.. if it wasnt for his sons death he would have had this realization for a greater person.. and zuko would have been on his own.. not saying that iroh isnt the best character ever created in the history of ANYHTING.. because he truely is.
@AllyAlly1620 no he did deserve it he was a villain and then his defeat and eventual loss of his son taught him humiity and turned him good although aang may be the true main hero if he hadnt realized the error of his ways the world wouldnt have reached peace as it did
@AllyAlly1620 very true, but if you remember, iroh was also a great general, and though he wasnt malicious, he took pride in taking over other countries for the fire nation. it's sad, but i think if his son hadn't have been killed, iroh wouldnt be the person we know and love from the cartoon. @AllyAlly1620 yes but i think it was because of his sons death that it shaped iroh to be an even better person. still yes he didnt deserve it. but i woudnt have changed the story since its so meaningful and is the reason why iroh loves zuko so much as he see's him as his own son :'(
