When I was young, I went to Roy Roger's museum when it was in California. I got a rare chance to meet him in person. His dog was there too and it was a great dane. I don't remember much of him, but I do remember that he was a really nice guy. Before they passed away, they lived in Apple Valley.
My My, this song does such a good thing to me. at almost age 71 I had never heard this song b4 last night- Sept 4,2011. I'll always love you Trigger, you are a part of me.
I consider myself fortunate, to have grown up, when I did. I'm a film buff who loves all genres, especially the old B-westerns. Ah, yes.. I was looking for a job, in San Francisco, when I heard the news.. A pity, we have to lose our gems before we appreciate their value.. True, I loved Clint Eastwood, in those 'Spaghetti' Westerns, now and then, it's good to look at those movies that taught us how to live clean and play fair..
I do not remember a time when I did not love Roy Rogers--King of the Cowboys! I watched every film, every weekly show, every special! My dad worked at Bendix and every Christmas Bendix would hold a party for the Kid.. There was almost always a Roy Rogers Movie. THOSE WERE THE DAYS! I had the joy of meeting him a year before he dies. He was all I thought he'd be and more. Just like talking to a friend or neighbor. I went to kiss him on the cheek and he turned and kissed my lips! WOW!!!!
I do not remember a time when I did not love Roy Rogers--King of the Cowboys! I watched every film, every weekly show, every special! WOW!!
This made me cry.....There will never be another time like this....What a wonderful man Roy was. What a great horse Trigger was....then sold out to a corporation. Money rules all. :(
Yes, that trail museum is really cool. I remember when it was originally built in Victorville, CA and then they disassembled it and moved it to Branson.
gosh, i pine for the days growing up with the fresh clean childhood with the likes of trigger and roy rogers and children's hour and the likes, please G(D bring back those fresh wholesome days of bologny sandwiches and saturday mornings and safety. thank you
We had the opportunity to see the Roy Rogers Museum in Branson, Missouri & we took our grand-daughters with us & told all about Roy & Dale & Bullitt & Trigger & Buttermilk & Pat & his jeep. They were surprized we had Black & White TV in the OLD DAYS!
@luap123311 Yep,Pat's jeep, Nellie Belle. I still have my metal toy Nellie Belle with rubber tires and workin'
steering wheel, plus some of the figures from my Roy Rogers Ranch set *still love 'em* Would have been more surprised that we didn't even have TV much before that!!! hahaha
Sadly the Roy rogers museum in Branson is no more. they closed and sold off the aritfacts. I grew up in that era and it's true, many of us "boys" learned how to comport ourselves watching Roy and Trigger catch the "bad guys".
I saw Trigger at the Roy Rogers Museum when it was in Victorville, CA. Recently I learned the museum decided to put Trigger up for action. That is a very sad day andI am sure Roy would not be happy about that.
WHERE CAN WE WRITE TO SAVE TRIGGER AND BULLITT. THAT WOULD BE A SHAME TO DESTROY THEM BY JUST THROWING THEM AWAY. THEY ARE A PART OF AMERICAN HISTORY. true that's what we are today a throw-away nation.
It's a shame that the Roy Rogers museum in Branson is closing and no one wants Trigger or Bullet!! Not even the Smithsonian!! Come on Kentucky Horse Park give them a final home please!!
@cecigw im with ya! i live 10 min from the ky park and they need that home!! they have elvis now!! comeon guys give them a home buttermilk, trigger, and bullet comeon ky park brigim home!!!!!!!!!
@cecigw I wish it could happen.. As a 'Baby Boomer', I was quite fortunate to grow up as I did.. Your Kentucky Horse Park is the ONLY PLACE for them.. I was living in San Francisco, when I got the news that Trigger died.. A big piece of my childhood..
As a child I watched all the cowboy shows . Loved Trigger,Mr ED etc. The shows were good clean fun. Ofcourse I was bitten by the Equine bug from these shows and now have a backyard full of horses... . Trigger sure was a beautiful golden stallion..I was 5 when he passed away..I wish they would make shows like this still.
Well,, the real wild west was absolutley nothing like seen in the movies. Those hats were never worn. No real cowboy ever wore a rediculous fringe shirt like that. or those cowboy boots.
@xvoy2002 I have the Time-Life series on the 'Old West', if I want the facts.. Of course; horses ran forever, guns fired without reloading.. Since the days of Tom Mix, we wanted to be entertained.. We know this..! Can't you just let us all be entertained? I played with my toy cowboys, and, I had my little Roy Rogers doing stuff you see in Kung Fu movies.. We were kids then! Nobody told us of stunt men..! So, just let us be entertained, ok..?
@xvoy2002 That may be true, but their shows gave us all a love for the West that never died. I am thankful for that! I do still love the vintage TV western look too ... because it is fun. Now it is up to us to save what is left of the REAL old West. Our government is trying to eliminate America's Wild Mustangs, our Nation's heritage and Icons of the American West.
I met Roy Rogers several times and he was always very nice. One time (1972) in York, PA I managed to get backstage and was with him in his dressing room and he posed for photos for me.
Yes, we miss it..This what we gave up for so-called 'reallity' tv..With so much garbage for the eye and ears, it's nice recall how we liked seeing the good guys win; not reality, but, at least we felt a lot better..At 65, I think I had it good as a kid..At least my heroes were people kids could look up to..Today, with punks, thugs, and foul-mouthed, bad girls, who look 27-going-on-15, isn't it unusual, seeing a hero who looks like he bathes every day?
Im one of those 'Baby Boomers' who wanted to be like Roy, and a horse like TRigger..Gee...! was looking for a job, in San Francisco, when I heard about it. I lost a real pal..!
Class, class & more class ..all the way. Now what do we have? Bunch of welfare bums pumping their crotches and talking a song. Sad, sad , & pathetically sadder. Yuck !
@Hollcall yep, I can not watch the new shows. I loved those shows, my dear dad bought me a $50 dollar horse and I loved her too, had great fun riding her and watching the good shows, she ate before I did and to this day my pets eat first, old as I am I still ride a horse, Roy Rogers was just wonderful. We need more men like him and the rest .........
hi, great song about old roy and trigger,i also wrote a song about trigger, called trigger the smart horse of the movie, i most say that i met roy in person in 1954,i also have my own trigger that is doing many good tricks, you can see some of my video clip on also on youtube, and also check my own western web site, tex lavallee the canadian western performer,

@GodsFavoriteBassPlyr Yes we will, my friend. Look back across history. Heroes are always the same, in whichever land or time. They're what we all wish to be. This'll never change and as long as this is true, they'll always come back us. Don't forget whom Trigger was associated with before Roy found him. Robin Hood!
@GodsFavoriteBassPlyr I am SO with you ... miss them both terribly. But I, for one, intend to see them again! Bless God! The way Roy and Dale led their lives and shared their testimonies accounts for a HUGE part of why today I have a little ranch and I and my family (and many, many more) have come to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Thanks for that, mate. I met Dusty when I was performing as the opening act for "The Sons of the Pioneers" a few years ago. It's how I got the song, from an idea after talking with the late and great Dale Warren.
@lbwombat I too once met Dusty.. He was not quite so nice. Nothing like his dad.
And now he's sold off Trigger and Bullet....and someone else bought Buttermilk with no mention of Trigger Jr. They should all be together. Too bad someone needs money so bad they have to sell of such a legacy as Roy and Dale.
@wildhorsestudios1421 That is so, so, sad..! Well, at least, thanks to Ebay, I finally got those figures of Roy, Dale, and, a beautifully made rearing horse, and, a dog..
Damn..! AT 65, I am one happy kid..! Did you ever have a Roy Rogers playset..?
@zipper179 Not sure what the play set would have been. I had Roy Rogers bedspread, curtains, boots, guns. And I still have my RR and Trigger thermos but the lunch pail is long gone. Got my old Covered Wagon night lamp and a set of RR VHS with my fav Trigger Jr tape. No idea what will happen to it sitting under a speaker here in my recording studio however.
@wildhorsestudios1421 They were made by a toy company, called 'MARX', and, there was another, called 'STUART'.. It was in the 50's(I'm dating myself, proudly!),when I first saw them..WOW-SO..! Cowboys & horses, with saddles & bridles.. We kids would make up our own games, and play, all the livelong day..!
Well, I never officially got one; but, now, I have some, and, I'm one happy kid, looking 66, in September..!
@wildhorsestudios1421 The playset was the RR Ranch .... cardboard fencing, as I remember with plastic figures of the entire cast and potmetal workin' Nellie Belle ... horses had removable saddles and bridles ... so jealous of the stuff you had to live in though! ;D
@wildhorsestudios1421 Yep, wish I was rich enough to buy them all back and put them together again. But those are just the shells ... we can be reunited with them all in eternity. This administration cannot take that from us! Thank God!
@lbwombat I also grew up watching these fantastic shows so sad to never seen these in reruns for our grand children those were the good old days for sure
@lbwombat I was gonna ask if you wrote that song, Leighton. It is truly inspired and your voice is beautiful. Thank you SOO much for honoring Trigger is such a fitting way. I love you for this. <3 Susan
