@208327650 I agree with you, but not about the emotions - while Maxim puts more emotions into movements, Albena, in turn, shows them more with her face.
@208327650 And japanese skaters :). But, in my opinion, not everyone is like that. For instance, Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo, who won at the last Olympics don't seem so "everything is business" and robotic to me. But I guess it's because of their age and life experience - they have more to say from themselves than some younger skaters. Also Daisuke Takahashi seems quite artistic to me.
@208327650 You are right, but I know also some none russian skaters who have taken ballet lessons - like Stephane Lambiel, for instance (but I think with him it's also visible), as well as some russian skaters, who have not taken any ballet lessons (or so it looks).
@208327650 Although I still think that Albena must be really good, otherwise they woldn't be twice world champions. From what I have noticed/observed - if one partner in a pair is really worse than the other, then that partner usually pulls the better partner down, and the results are not quite as good as they could have been with a better partner.
Of course, I can't determine, for instance, who has better gliding (I don't even know if the word is right in English), who skates quieter, or even who has better speed, since I have only seen them as a pair where they are always skating at the same speed :), or in shows with unprofessional "star'' partners, who don't allow them to skate with their full speed. I haven't even counted which one of them has made more mistakes during the performances that I've seen :).
@208327650 Who was "a spoiled girl who didn't know how to skate" - Albena or her sister? Just joking :). Knowing now that you are a skater yourself I will concede to you - you probably really know better than me, as I am not a skater, just a figure skating fan. I haven't even seen Albena and Maxim skate live. It just seemed to me from what I've seen that they are both equally good.
@208327650 I didn't think that it was a general statement (or at least hoped that it was not). Although sometimes people who know little about figure skating indeed think that the female skater of the pair is less important/inferior than the male skater. I said that just in case.
@208327650 Of course, it is right to say that any female ice dancer, no matter how good she is, is nothing without a good partner, since he is the one who has to do all the lifting. But that's no reason to say that the female skater is worse/inferior.
@208327650 What makes you think so? In my opinion, if the performance is really good, it means that both performers are good, otherwise it wouldn't be that good. A good skater like Staviski needs a good partner to be able to do all the things that he theoretically can do.
I think that she is the best female ice dancer there is.
I think they would probably still be skating for Gold today had he not killed someone while drunk driving and had to retire due to jail time and stuff.
@208327650 Yes, actually I know and understand all of that, but thank you for explaining it in such a detailed way.

@208327650 I hadn't noticed that, but I will try to watch more closely when I see them skating again.

@208327650 Nonsense! Seems you have no idea when and why they met and how Maxim decided it was exactly Albena he wanted to couple with!!!
