  • Obama is trash, he has done nothing and is now kissing Islamic ass.

Illegals should not get complete amnesty, it will further bankrupt America. i think we need to attack the drug trade and help Mexico become more "people friendly" but it is in chaos on purpose. both govts profit off the drug industry and chaos.

health care needs to have some sort of socialism to it but needs years of reform not rammed into congress overnight like it was. Congress needs an ass kicking...they are not royalty

  • Razela you should be the next president.

  • By The Way U`r Gourgeuss Sweetheart

  • Hi

Could U Post A Video About Obama Winning The Nobel Prize??

Whether He Deserved Or Not And Etc...

  • I dont like this whole insurance business you guys have over there! despite what anybody might think the NHS is a fantastic system as everyone has the right to medical care wether they can afford it or not! I admit there are some internal politics within the system that need looking at (nothing a few sackings couldn't cure) but the system as a whole is great and I wouldn't have it any other way!

  • @markymarcus1 Yes, the NHS is great, even the Conservative party in the UK dare not destroy it - because if they did they would never win an election ever again, that is how much the people of the UK treasure it!

  • I took a blood test 3 months ago. Because S.F. General does not take private insurance they charged me $1000 for it. What a rip off. 9 months ago I got a free blood test from the red cross and they gave me a free bottle of water.

I think the driving cost of health insurance is from greed all around; insurance companys, pharmaceutical companys and hospitals.

A puplic option would be good competion for those money whoring pricks.

  • No, you can't have too many choices. Do we have too many choices of cars? Many things in life are choices of trade offs between different options. Picking what you prefer by incremental adjustments is only possible when choices abound.

  • There are no less than half a dozen websites dedicated to helping us pick out auto insurance; can't health insurance be that simple?

Personally, I use neither. As much as I applaud contingencies, I refused to give a company money a month who is only going to help me if ABSOLUTELY necessary.

  • I should hope so! I would see that as an empty niche that many companies could fill, should this become law.

  • I agree with the idea of inputting your personal info and getting choices based on that. The thing is, there may be problems with not showing someone all their options. I think they should have a grid/chart with providers and services: filled in with how much each would add to your deductible. kinda like car insurance. i would love some flexibility for time between changing coverage - having to wait a year for some 'open enrollment' date sucks.

  • I would like to choose not to get health coverage. Is that an option?

  • Don't quote me but from my understanding, no. If you don't want government insurance than you have to select a private one. Either way it will be mandatory. Sort of like auto insurance in the state of California.

  • Doesn't seem to jive with american freedom. Seems more like wealth extraction and control to me. I would like to have the freedom NOT to pay for health insurance if I take care of myself and want to assume the risk.

  • I think the issue with that is, if you choose to take the risk, in the end it's really the government taking the risk, because they are the ones that have to pay when there is an emergency and you don't have the money for it. It's similar to the reasons auto insurance are required.

  • That's the way it is now.. But that's another form of socialized medicine.. It doesn't have to be that way either. They could just let me die.

  • Car insurance is only required on public roads. If we can be required to buy health insurance, does that mean that (by extending your analogy of car insurance) we may also be required to buy a license to live?

If the government can't afford the "generosity" of covering my ER, it doesn't mean that I should be required to reduce the chance that the government will be stuck with this bill.

If they can't afford the gift, they shouldn't give it.

  • So, both of you are arguing that rather than require health insurance, we should not require hospitals to care for patients in emergencies who do not have insurance and cannot pay out of pocket. That would be a pretty viable way of saving money, though I suppose it would be a career ender for any politician who supported it.

  • I am mostly arguing with attempts to use deception to promote political agenda. The argument that everyone must buy insurance to cover the expenses of the government is premised on the (faulty) assumption that the government must continue paying for the ER. But paying for the ER is a political choice. I think it's promoted as the humane choice. But if this choice cannot be separated from the coercion to purchase insurance, then calling it "humane" is disingenuous.

  • Yes, that's how I describe which YouTube channels to subscribe to. ;-)

I think "too many" choices is generally better than the virtual monopolies that many people in this country are faced with. I think you'll agree with me that single payer (or "Medicare For All" as Rep. Weiner calls it) is best, but our current system sucks the big one.

    (Is that a SurlyAmy pendant?)

  • That is a SurlyAmy necklace =) I even put the link in the video notes and on the blog.

  • Hey, I don't understand why I can't purchase insurance in another state.

That would be great right? No?

    Just thinking out loud.
