the way to determine male from female is to look real closley at the first set of legs closest to the fangs. males will have little hooks that are used to keep the female from eating him during mating. of course they have to reach a certain size to be able to see.
Chilean rose hairs are much fuzzier and less spindly. And they normally have a heavier body. Both male and female get this color in this tarantula. I don't know who said males are brown... Their temperament varies by individuals. Some can be mean, other's are quite calm and readily handleable. I'd recommend starting with a s'ling and handling from when it's young so that it stays "friendly."

Your could be male, as the male spiders only get brownish shades, all females (or atleast 90%) get around that color.
