  • Just bought a 2011 demo got it for 33000 , I still get the 7500 tax credit, have had it for a week. Traded in a Jeep 10 mpg costing us 700 a month the get back and forth to work. So far went 500 miles on 4.5 gal of gas and 7- 10 hr charges. Best car we've ever owned

  • Comment removed

  • we own a volt love it...if u havent driven one shut up bc u dont know anything about it....traded a prius in for it

  • @camarojoe1997 Can I have my tax money back?

  • @TheCory1282 nope im keeping it in this country smartass

  • @camarojoe1997 I hope you realize what a fool you look like driving your Volt. To date, Obama has spent approximately $3,000,000,000.00 subsidizing Volts. Each volt costing more than $200,000. Where do you think that money comes from? Again, I ask, can I have my tax money back?

It is not the business of government to drive innovation, that's not how America became a great country. We will have alternate systems when they make economical and practical sense.

  • @TheCory1282 Wow!...another stupid hater here acting like they know everything!...if you don't like the Volt, what the hell are you doing here watching these videos on Youtube??....get the f**ck out of here, asshole!!!

  • @TheCory1282 lemme get this straight ur telling me that the $28000 i spent on my new car actually should have cost me $200000 instead. hmmm either i got one hell of a deal or ur completly wrong. well giving u the benefit of the doubt lets say ur right. how can u sit here and tell me that buying an american car is a bad thing 726 GM employees are going back if u havent heard and they are going to hire more in the summer.so say what u want about the company and obama bc i will be glad to educate u

  • @TheCory1282 You can have my wiener if you want, fag!

  • @1aceves dont worry about this naive little prick he isnt worth our time.. coming on here throwing his 2cents in calling us fags just ignore him he isnt worth it

  • @camarojoe1997 Good job, camarojoe...my brother just picked one up at the dealership recently and it's an awesome car!...we have to buy domestic brands to support our own economy, not another country's, and to get us out of this mess we're in. GM sold almost 10,000 Chevy Volts worldwide last year 2011, in their first year of production, not bad for a first year effort using brand new technology!....this model year 2012 will be even better!......America #1. hell yeah!!!

  • The Chevrolet the quickest way to dry a girls pussy.

  • @abdul456 lol

  • They used the small lady to increase the performance. Cute too.

  • I only watched this video for the girl....

  • @tedmongel Don't be a sheeple. Wear your fire suit at all times! Don't be a DOLT!

  • They put a women in charge of the Stability Control System? WE'RE DOOMED!!!

  • The fact that she's intelligent on top of being very sexy makes her super hot. Good for you, Valarie.

  • someday I will own one!

  • 120V instead of 240V - stupid Americans.

Imperial System instead of Metric System - stupid Americans.

Destroying all GM EV1s and reinvent the electric car 20 years later - stupid Americans.

Believe that Global Warming is some kind of marketing gag - stupid Americans.

... this list could go on and on and on and on ...

... it all comes down to Stupid Americans.

  • @nordag

It's not only americans sadly for us my friend

  • @nordag lol. Well with the Volt at least they've done something that's not stupid finally.

  • how does this car do with road head?

  • @drasteek hahahaha

  • Comment removed

  • They didn't say how many times they had to charge it to get around the track once.

  • @leestauf You again? Why don't you go do some actual work rather than flaming videos with a bunch of nonsense?

  • If I had one and went to buy $50.00 worth of groceries at the nearest town forty miles away, it would mean a three day trip and two hotels to get there (if the hotels had a charging station). I'd run out of power 3/4 of the way there, have to get a room while charging overnight and continue on the next day. Same on the return trip. No one can say this isn't a VERY BAD JOKE ON ALL OF US! Our tax money went not only to bail out this disaster, but paid for this asinine advertisement! Thanks Barry!

  • To all you guys insulting that great car you just can't admit that once again, Chevrolet has scored. The «fire issue» with the Volt is non sense. After a crash, the car took fire after 3 weeks. Who the hell stays in a car 3 weeks after it has crashed ???

  • that lady was like.. OMG I can't believe they let this guy near me.

  • @kiiiro If you live more than 35 miles away from work, maybe you need to move. In addition, if you work an 8 hour shift, you could almost fully charge the car by the time you leave from work - so you'd only use pennies of gas.

I would say the Volt is a bit overpriced with the Ford Focus Electric and Nissan Leaf here, though.

  • @iDiggMGL Well, the price will eventually come down as production and time progresses, plus, right now you'll get all kinds of discounts & rebates to encourage people to buy them, even the government will pitch in a nice $7,500 discount for you, so in essence a nicelly equipped Volt will run you about $31,000. My brother recently bought one and his monthly car payment is only $350 a month USD. He traded in his newer GMC Sierra truck which was burning $450 a month in gas, on top of his truck pay.

  • @1aceves $350 is a lot. Truth is: if I was paying $31,000 for an electric car, I'd want the most electric range possible. What the Volt does is really cool, but the new Ford Fusion is doing that and it's not claiming to be an EV--that I know of. Having said that, I do support the Chevy Volt it is a step better than traditional hybrids.

  • @kiiiro It's not a small car. The thing looks bigger than my Ford Fusion Hybrid, in person.

Regarding gas mileage: there is no comparison to a gas car. If your daily commute is below 40 miles per day, you could essentially avoid gas throughout your entire ownership. Of course, I'm excluding the 2% of the year you take looooooong road trips, which isn't even 2% for me. Hell, it's not even 1% for me, but whatevs.

  • @NowLifeStarts Great Idea!!! Put your Fire suit on....Get in a crash.....Then sit in the vehicle for about 3 weeks so you can get your moneys worth out of the fire suit!

  • @ClassicChevyAmherst lols u charge like 40 grand for this crap and make some bs claim of 7500 rebait but its not a rebait you dont get the money back and make outrageous claims of fuel efficiency which are false and sell on average 2000 cars a month .. epic failure you're company is run by morons no wonder other car companies are taking over.

  • @ClassicChevyAmherst By the way now life starts!Gm knows the problem was found and is working with the NTSB and are fixing it.They have even given buyers the choice to turn it back in and get their money back or choose another vehicle. What did toyota do?Blame the drivers then get fined over 30 mill for with holding info.Have a recall for a problem thats supposed the drivers fault then cant figure it out.In fact they have more recalls to put out but wanna wait to look better!

  • @ClassicChevyAmherst

In early March 2012, the Chevy Volt was renamed the Chevy Firestarter.

  • @ukewdgb In 2010 and 2011, the Toyota Prius was named the "Toyota Unintended-Accelerating, Brake-Failing Killing Machine.".....idiot!

  • @ClassicChevyAmherst The issue was corrected. The Chey volt is an excellent car, really the best of its type

  • @NowLifeStarts i will in the dolt but im gana keep my suit in the volt

  • @NowLifeStarts Yeah, and gas does burn either. What a douche-bag...

  • @atortiz Good point. Not only does the dolt have gas it also has batteries that explode. The ol' double whammy! lol! Hug a tree and fuck a monkey. Don't forget to take your government motors dolt in for the recall so you don't implode. LOL! DOOOOOOOOOSH!

  • @NowLifeStarts Actually, don't forget to disable the battery like people normally do even for regular gas powered vehicles when they have been wrecked.

  • @NowLifeStarts Don't forget to pull your head out of Rush Linbaugh's ass.

  • @rmfrank001 Why would anyone listen to that fat fuck?

  • @NowLifeStarts Whatever you say, idiot hater!!!....and you, don't forget to wear your helmet every time you drive that ugly-ass piece of shit toyota prius that you probably own just in case the car suffers from "unintended acceleration" and crashes into other innocent people driving their cars and killing them just like it was reported all over the news about a year ago!....stupid jerk!!!

  • @1aceves hahaha Prius. All garbage. Have fun with your government motors dolt. Keep that fire extinguisher handy!

  • I finally got to ride in a test drive of the Chevy Volt. I loved everything about the Volt except for one thing, once we got above 50 mph the road noise was louder when the Malibu and Equinox. Once I got up to 70mph the road noise was very loud & we all had to speak loud in order to be heard. It is quite below 50 mph and when the car is stopped it is totally silent. But at speeds above 50 mph it is noisier than the Malibu and the Equinox, too noisy. They need to improve on that!!

  • The only problem with this car is its way too expensive. You don't actually save money buying this car.

  • Check out her expression from 4:44 to 4:48

  • @kiiiro

But we have the chevy here. But it's much more expensive. about 55.000$ because of the currency rate. Cars are very expensive in Germany. The Opel costs about 1300$ more. In the USA it's only 39.000$ Even though the cars are identic, Germans prefere german cars. US cars have no good reputation.

  • @fred1671 good, strong points! It is true about the price tag! It is an expensive car! Now all us Americans can do is hope the price tag goes down! DRAMATICALLY!

  • Did you test it's maximum speed? If so, what is it?

  • @3948jeff 101mph

  • The best peak oil vehicle, bought to you by Chevrolet. LOL, what a joke

  • how can it be higher head space than leaf ? .. Leaf is higher than VOLT :)

  • @cedricaung I'm guessing the seats are set lower than? I'm 6'1" and my head has plenty of space. fyi

  • I was thinking this could be a part of porno movie when i see the girl :) ..after that drive ..they will start .......

  • For those haters out there that said Chevy couldnt do it...EAT A DICK! This car looks awesome and I cant wait to get my hands on one! America can do awesome things, if it puts its mind into it! Can you imagine if these were mass produced and the price came down? OPEC would have a come-apart! Love it!

  • @LetsgetphysicalAg Chevy would need some serious mass-producing to get the Volt into a reasonable price range.

Since the Volt is close to $47K in my area, I would be more inclined to purchase a slightly used Honda Civic. I can purchase a nice Civic in the $17K-$19K range - and still get 35+ MPG. You can drive that car all month on roughly $125 in gas (current price/gallon) and it would still take well over 20 years to off-set the cost of a new Volt. The VOLT is only a $25K car all day long!

  • @fred1671 Very good point! But remember the 7k tax credit the government will give ya, and if the price of gasoline goes up to more then 4 dollars a gallon (which seems very likely) it could really hurt the pocket book. Especially if you never drive more then 40 miles and will never use gasoline in the volt...this care could pay for itself! I mean come on, give GMC some credit...this is only the begining of a cool line of cars! Im sure they will be cheaper and better and the years go by! :O)

  • @LetsgetphysicalAg I give GM all due credit, because it is a sharp looking car - and very eco-friendly. I just can't justify the price tag, not yet... even with the $7K tax credit. And, honestly, I would love to start supporting GM/Ford, but the price of their new cars is well over current market value. Until they realize most Americans are hurting for funds and start lowering their prices, I'll be forced to buy used Japanese and European cars - because used American is just not that reliable.

  • @LetsgetphysicalAg

With a little help of the german subsidiary company Opel. The principal engineer Frank Weber just returned to Opel after finishing the Volt projekt.

  • @LetsgetphysicalAg Way to go, my friend!....there are a lot of haters out there, I know!...I guess these people can't stand the fact that GM has a winner here and they are all angry because the car is a success!...I just don't get it!...these people are all Toyota Prius & Nissan Leaf lovers for whatever reason. I don't understand why anyone would like the exterior styling of those things, being so ugly-looking!...on the other hand, the Chevy Volt has awesome futuristic styling!...beautiful car!!

  • How much does that charging station cost?

  • @jonnyfilmboy The Voltec SPX charger costs $490. It may be the lowest price level 2 charger around. I just got 2 of them.....peace.

  • @MrEnergyCzar Interesting. Why did you get two of them? Can you double them up? Are there two charging ports on the car?

  • @jonnyfilmboy Oh, I donated the second one to be installed at work.

  • hot damn the girl is pretty hot ~.~

  • @derek400004 I was thinking the same thing about the guy...

  • Checked on a Chevy dealer website and the Volt is listed at $45K. Nissan dealer offered to sell me a Leaf for $35K. I already own an electric car. They are expensive, but electricity costs at least 80% less than gasoline. I drive 1500 miles per month for about $25.

  • I just drove a Leaf, this car has a long way to go to even come close.

  • is the girl for sale?

I like her better than the car :)

  • yeah.... i'm liking the volt more than the leaf

  • Ha,in Europe our normal household charger is 220V,thats like a charging station !

  • electric cars are the future because...they can remotely be shut down by the future facist new world order gov.

  • @Fons1958 cars with gasoline engines can allready be shut down.

  • The only thing that bugs me is the fact you can start it with a cell phone which is a huge security risk as hackers are going to be all over that if it becomes mainstream.

I'd want the option to be able to disable that feature.

  • @Membrane556 Dude, your fears are unfounded!...you don't have to worry about that!...come on, do you seriously believe they won't come up with something to prevent hackers from stealing your Volt??...that's childish thinking, not to insult or anything.

  • @1aceves

If it's like the security on existing cars then yes it's a legitimate concern and anything but childish thinking.

Some thieves actually specialize on high end luxury cars as all they have to do is crack the RFID fob and don't need to damage the vehicle.

RFID is well known for being vulnerable to cloning attacks.

BTW this app has been hacked already.

  • Cute car, cute woman.

    :o)

  • The best Peak Oil vehicle....

  • @MrEnergyCzar Are you posting this same comment on every Volt video? Looks that way.

  • its sad to say but nissan is way ahead of the volt ahahah its even funny

  • @bonds911 It's sad to say but Nissan is way behind the Volt in looks and styling alone, not to mention the other features & technology. Your stupid Leaf is extremely ugly styling-wise and does not have the extended range of the Volt. The Leaf can leave you stranded anywhere, anytime, not so with the Volt....also, Nissan is the least reliable Japanese brand, plus...a car with a name like the "Leaf" just doesn't cut it..it sounds too gayish to be taken seriously by men. Women might buy it, though.

  • @biddyscrilla Why? Because it is trying to shift completely away from fossil fuels? Yeah, the electric power probably comes from fossil fuels but it uses a lot less than the Volt. To be honest, I think that the Volt is a quasi-EV.

I also like how this video was paid for by Chevy.

  • I am all for the implementation of more energy efficient transportation. But, it is important you understand that when you plug your car into a wall chances are that the electricity being used is generated by burning fossil fuels (coal in particular) which emits more pollutants than gas.

  • @delta2230 There are lots of 100 percent green energy options now to fix that.

  • @delta2230 Have you forgotten about "Clean, Green Energy" my friend??....Volt owners are already installing solar panels on the roofs of their homes in order to charge their electric vehicles using free, solar energy and off the grid. Does it take a rocket scientist to realize the advantage, potential & full benefits of electric cars??....come on, dude!...don't you have the power to think??

  • @1aceves yeah, such an advantage that GM has now suspended the production of the fraud VOLT that doesn't get 40 mile on a charge, I think you have a short in your wiring...the US has 300 years of oil and gas, but the VOLT won't see 2013, electirc and batteries isn't the future, so the government needs to stop pushing this bullshit industry that's nothing but a fraud.. costing tax payers $250,000 per volt sold...

  • @Deke1 are you stupid or what? How can you say that electric power vehicles aren't the future. If electricity weren't invented, you were, at this moment, you would be breathing carbon dioxid and in less than a minute, you would be down on the ground, dieing. Do you want to have petrol lamps in your house and die of CO2 inhalation?

Come on, don't be stupid and think on what is the best to the planet and to other people.

  • @nfsbiggestfan1 just like Obama and his high speed rail nonsense, is that back to the future or did planes over take that industry. the future is not electric cars, bank on that..been there, tried that fifty years ago..future transprtation won't be found by crony capitalism of the government picking winners and losers, how did Solyndra work out.did the government invent the light bulb, why no but governent will have you by mandate by Crony GE products at five times the cost filled with toxins

  • would a $2,000 solar panel system, on the roof, have killed it? probably no. But would 150+ watts of constant electricity, we dont have threes over motorways anyway, improved it? you bet.

  • There is no gas shortage. The government is stupid and trying to force us out of gasoline powered cars. Gas is forced up by unnecessary taxes to fund a pointless growing socialistic society that has been proven in history not to work. If Obama would allow drilling we wouldn't have expensive gas. It's not hard. We can all go back to driving our gasoline powered FUN cars again with no problem. If you're a tree hugger put a large catalytic converter on you're car. You're saving the world once more.

  • @MaxiKing925 That is the most moronic, sophomoric thing I've heard anyone say in years. Electric cars are the future becuase they don't pollute, cheaper to run and makes us less dependent on foreign markets for oil and gas. Try arguing THOSE fact you MOOK.

  • I wish people would understand that the Earth is going through a natural cycle coming out of an ice age.. Again.. WE ARE IN AN ICE AGE AND LEAVING IT! People are trying to "save the world" and sacrifice our way of living as human beings trying to prevent something that we can't. Government forcing people to spend money for nothing. Climate changes and we don't affect that. Al Gore has exploited natural processes as a human caused phenomena for his person monetary gain... Stop being so naive.

  • I'll get a leaf :)

  • After the batteries run out you only get like 28mph!! I have only seen 3 were I live at.

  • The Battery for the Chevy Volt is warrantied for 8 years or 100,000 miles!!!

  • seems pointless to buy a car like this UNTIL GM FORD CHRYSLER and the rest stop making V10s V8s and maybe even V6s and all sports cars.a few of these wont make any difference untill those pollution machines are off the road.

  • Beats paying money to greedy big oil companies. How long are the batteries guaranteed for? Because they are expensive to replace.... They need to come up with a lease system like they have in Isreael...

  • very pretty lady!

    seems like a great car!

    AMERICA!

  • @jjlwis Love the car, but I'll rather have her lol.

  • @jjlwis Fuck america puto... imports nissan leaf outselling volt 4 to 1 fuck you too puto. racist ...

  • @bonds911 Fuck you, puto!!!...the Volt is outselling your ugly-ass, piece-of-shit Leaf by 5 to1, check your stats first before spewing hatred and false crap, pendejo!...if you hate America so much, then get the fuck out of here, baboso!

  • @jjlwis "very pretty" lady? With that forehead? She could sell advertising space on that forehead!

As for your "AMERICA!" comment... the Opel Ampera is identical, literally, and looks MUCH better than the Volt. The Volt looks like an old man car...

  • @alkeli78 opel is owned by gm don't forget

  • whats the range on battery its the most important factor and you said nothing about it

  • What a great first step for GM,.... Asian fanboys can't stand that Detroit is the clever one now.... :)

  • Haha alot of pissy Prius drivers here jealous that they don't have the snobbiest hippie mobile anymore...

  • THIS ISN'T AN ELECTRIC CAR, ITS A PLUG-IN HYBRID

  • I love how calm she is during the stability test :)

  • Thank you for the comment! Just to give you some further info, the Volt has a gas engine on board to charge batterys only. The idea of having this gas engine on board is so that if you are in an area that dosn't have a charging station you can still operate the vehicle. I am sure that in the future we will have the technology for the batterys to last longer! Untill then Go USA!

  • @ClassicChevyAmherst It comes with a 110 volt charge cord so unless you are driving where there isn't any electrical outlets then yes the engine can charge the batteries but it is not the "only" way to charge with out a "Charging Station".

  • Comment removed

  • @ClassicChevyAmherst Not to be rude, but your information is somewhat incorrect or may at least give the wrong idea. The gasoline motor is a generator. It supplies the power once the battery charge is used up. Once the generator kicks on it basically bypasses the battery and directly powers the electric motor. Some power is given back to the batteries through regenerative braking and the use of L (low gear), but the only way to get a full charge back on the batteries is to stop and charge.

  • @DrunkenMcWasted Thank you for these corrections! You explain how it works very well. The one thing about this vehicle is that technology and other information regarding this vehicle is updated daily! There are reports of people driving this vehicle up to 83miles on a single charge, by taking full advantage of the available onboard graphs and efficiency information by utilizing the regenerative braking system.

  • @DrunkenMcWasted Still the number one concern is "Range Anxiety" (how far can I travel before running out of power) which this vehicle has none! !If it runs out of charge, you won't have to push it or tow it home to get that charge, because of the onboard generator. None of the other electric vehicles have this feature! Thanks again for setting me straight

  • I'm only thirteen..but that's not the point..

the point is i think this freaking AWESOME!

it be better if it was completely dependent from gas..i would like it more..but anyways..keep it up Chevy! USA awesomeness?:D

  • About 100 miles for that run + for only using about 1 gallon HOLY SHIT :D

  • mountain mode... lol that just sounded so funny

  • sport car wannabe

  • chevys comin back

  • First off I've never been a big fan of hybrids or electrics BUT the Volt just makes perfect sense for me. I commute over 600 miles a week and would gladly get rid of my current ride unfortunately I don't have $40K, so it ain't happening any time soon. As for the Gay-us...Errr Prius? NO thanks! I'm an American and I want to support my own country! I have driven a Leaf and it and these other electric cars are worthless!

  • The Electric Hybrid Car revolution is here. Nissan is releasing its Electric Leaf. Chevrolet Volt is a Plug-in Hybrid that is now at show rooms nationwide. The Toyota Prius PHEV will be on sale in 2012 and the Ford Fusion Hybrid gets you 700 miles a tank.

  • lose your phone....lose your car!!! :)

  • @bobscanfly

You can start the car, but can't drive it without the key being near. This is the same for all the other GM auto starters. Either the key has to be in the ignition or in the car for key less ignition cars.

  • what a douchebag

  • People who live in Apartment complexes usually have Zero access to an outlet they can use to charge the car. This seriously limits who can buy this car right now.

  • @ThinkReal That is indeed a problem, one that is bigger than one car. I suppose it's a bit like moving into a place with no Internet. Eventually, tenants will expect certain amenities (and be willing to pay). New garages and parking spaces may start building in charge stations to be competitive. But that won't happen until a LOT of electric cars are on the road. So until then, those with charging options will have to lead the way and those in apartments can still select high MPG cars.

  • My commute and the commute of most people in our area is about 10 miles.

From what I've seen from Volt drivers is that I would get about 200mpg commuting to work. Add that to the $7500 tax credit and the price comes down to pretty competative... and you are driving a electic no shifting cool car.. no wonder demand is so high.

  • the girl looks scared

  • The GM engineer girl is hot. Wonder if she is married.

  • Mountain mode is so the engine doesn't have to WOT if you put a load on empty batteries.

  • I want a Volt!

  • @starstarstar42 Enough said! You have some great points! I agree that " I know we need to start somewhere"! I am just excited about the future and the direction of this company. Yes I wish the same, that they would come out with an inexpensive electric vehicle, however meanwhile we have the all new Chevy Cruz gas engine that gets up to 40mpg, and is affordable and the all new Chevy Equinox that gets up to 31mpg.

  • Amazed? Yes. You will be amazed at how much gas you could have afforded if you had bought a Leaf or Prius instead and pocketed the $18K difference.

  • @starstarstar42 It's not all about money! It's about saving our planet for our kids! Thats something that you can't put a price on!

  • @ClassicChevyAmherst Beg to differ, I can put an exact price on it...

    41,000-32,780=$8,200 Volt vs. Leaf

    33,500-22,209=$11,291 Volt vs. Prius

Planet saved for kids & $10K pocketed to put the little rugrats through college. Don't get me wrong, I know we need to start somewhere, but I am SO disappointed that Detroit doesn't understand the fundamental paradigm:

Make the damn thing cheap enough so that the people the most affected by high fuel costs can afford them! Case and point: Prius.

  • @starstarstar42 What would the fuel savings be over the life of the car?

  • @JMan13131313 An EXCELLENT question. If its Volt vs. Prius, and you drive 12K miles per year with gas at $3.25/gallon, you would need to keep the Volt an extra 92,000 miles to break even on the difference in price. That means keeping it an EXTRA 7.6 years. For Volt vs.Leaf, you'd have to keep the Volt an EXTRA 6.8 years. I replace a car about every 7 years, so I would need to own the Volt for @ 14 years to make up the difference in cost vs Prius, even with it's better gas mileage.

  • @ClassicChevyAmherst And you think the Volt doesn't pollute the planet? It still uses gas, so it does still pollute, although not as much a regular gas car. All in all, I'm glad an American company has come out with a car that gets 100 + mpg. Now I hope all other companies follow but most importantly, work to keep the costs down to at least what normal cars are selling for today.

  • @InfamousPR

if you use the volt to go around town everyday then there would be no reason to use gas. hell you could leave the tank empty, but its when you leave the city is when you would start to pollute

  • @ClassicChevyAmherst Yeah...Sure...Let's save the planet City CowBoys by driving 7.0L BigBlock TwinTurbo SuperCharged V8 gas sewer sports cars & trucks, just for the fun of having Big Donuts & Great Burnouts until the tires catch on fire...

  • @666thedarkside Well part of being an American is being able to do whatever you like because we are FREE too. At this point in time we need to try and conserve and keep making progress with alternative energy. So I think we are going in the right direction. If we didn't have the big V-8's then how would food get to the stores? What's wrong with racing, burning out, and doing donuts? Sounds like fun!

  • @starstarstar42 Or, you could buy a 5 year old car and save even more money. Or you could buy a Ford Edge with all the trimmings and pay more than a Volt. Or I could buy a BMW and pay more. So what? When Toyota has a Prius that can travel 40-50 miles gas free and has a gas engine backup, then we can make a comparison. Oh wait, they do, except it's only 13 miles on battery power with a top speed of 60mph, and wont be avail until spring 2012!! Price? Est base of $33k, $1K more than Loaded Volt.

  • Car and Driver on the new 13 mile Plugin-Prius: "And so the parallel-hybrid powertrain design, the squishy suspension setup, and the puny 15-inch wheels remain, giving the PHV the same lackluster driving characteristics as its non-plug-in sibling. That includes the way-overboosted electric power steering and a brake pedal that has yet to deliver anything close to accuracy". The Volt (17" wheels) on the other hand is universally cited as a fun, sporty car to drive.

  • @dign0n

Volt Dealer: So here it is; fun, sporty to drive. That'll be $15,000 extra, please.

Me: Thank you, no. I'll take the lackluster driving experience and pocket the 15K, thanks.

  • @starstarstar42 somebody finally has to get serious on alternative propulsion for personal transportation, of course these "firsters" always gonna be rather expensive compared to other established mass market segmented cars, nonetheless, chevy pulled off a pretty impressive step in that direction with the volt, and, the nissan leaf is a lunch box compared to the volt btw ! greetings from germany.

  • @starstarstar42

The Chevy Volt is a MUCH better car than a Leaf ...the Leaf can't get you out of the city because it's battery will run out. The Chevy Volt can go anywhere with no limitations. Once the battery dies, you can still drive! ...Volt owners will be driving past all the Leaf owners who are stuck on the side of the road with dead batteries lol

  • @fastballfifteen Except you can buy CXZ, put it in a garage, and with the money I saved I can have a limo drive me EVERYWHERE I want to go for the next 18 months. At the end of that time, I'll start driving the Honda and STILL have 5K in cash saved. Now that we are done with ridiculous hypotheticals, please explain why I should pay an extra 20K for a car that is theoretically saving me money on gasoline, yet doesn't because I've paid a massive premium for it.
