Man how did PS2 manage to dominate so much when it had such great rival consoles-Dreamcast, GCN, XBox. Didn't really deserve it, just cos of the popularity of the PS1 and huge marketting hype for the PS2. They even lied that they had a more powerful CPU than the Gamecube.

The Emotion Engine essentially was more powerful than the Gekko (The Gekko was also more powerful than the Xbox's variant of the Intel Pentium just for the record), it was a pretty damn versatile processor for it's time, it's only weak point, was it's relatively low memory.

Bear in mind, CPU =/= clocking speed. People are too quick to look at numbers and jump to a conclusion.

You're fortifying my point. Make no mistake, the Xbox was the most powerful out of the previous wave of consoles, but you're just looking at the numbers. Not to mention, I think you mean to refer to the GPUs of those 3 systems. Hell, that being said, did you know that the Dreamcast had a stronger graphics card than the PS2? Yet the Dreamcast didn't having anything in it's pocket to hold a candle to MGS2, Gran Turismo 3, Devil May Cry etc. and those are 2nd gen PS2 games.

All the Xbox ever had was Halo and that was pretty much what saved it from being obscure. I have no idea why the PS2 was good in the first place. The games it had weren't really that interesting at all.

Also, your list of exclusives isn't great. F Zero is good, but Pikmin wasn't. Pokemon XD was absolute shit. Luigi's Mansion was okayish. Killer 7 was released for PS2 as well, wasn't it? Star Fox is good. Never played Eternal Darkness.

I'd recommend the Xbox personally, there's alot of modding potential, great games that can still only be played on the system (thanks to the 360's laughable rushjob attempt at backwards compatibility), and is a relatively cheap system to support.

That's not to say the Gamecube doesn't have great games, but hey, if you have a Wii, you already have a Gamecube..

@ShawShank503 I don't know who 'proved' it, but think about this: Metroid Prime 1 made the Halo Developers jealous. also, games that were cross-plat during that era, i.e Resident Evil 4 looked much more terrible on the Station than they did on the Cube. The framerate had to be dropped, and there was still pop-in and such. but it is to be expected since the ps2 was the first console of that era. I know graphics aren't better with later consoles, but nintendo was more hardcore back then.

And yes Nintendo had an Online adapter for the Gamecube to play online but no games supported that function.

2. extremely small discs, which even today's consoles don't bother trying to replicate

3. really, really fast loading time.
