Oh my Gosh that is just sooo very wrong for the horses feet and legs!! You should not be doing that on a hard road, the horse can even slip and fall!!
I agree that they should be ridden on a hardened road suitable for horses (like a dirt path or something), but for some people that just isn't available. Then again, even though I have the same problem, riding this fast isn't really necessary. I just hope they only did this to show their speed at pacing. Also, wtf....riding on a road without a helmet at that speed? Death wish much?
@LadyKushinda2 this horses in puerto rico use boots that protect them from getting their leg hurts, and this kind of still that this horse runs makes the way easier and not pain lees for their legs soo shhhhh!!!! we dont want either to fucks our horses we love them!!!
standardbreds pace, most are retrained to trot under saddle once they leave the track, mine still paces under saddle and i plan to keep it that way, just as fast as any gallop i have seen, but way smoother, and by the way, i would NOT ride a horse that hard on pavement, ouchie legs and back, and major dangerous if they are wearing shoes!!

this horse can go faster than 40mph and if u know how 2 take care ur horses legs they wont have any pain u know that we u see them here running but we arent every day ridding our horses, an example we have horses that have more than 40 years old and they look like if there have 2 years so good lucking, in shape and healthy we are puertorican thats u all problem we know how to do things the right way we born in this shit!! we know better than u old how 2 take care a horse!!
i like it we road race in england but with sulkeys and thers big bucks in it for the fast color pacing horses a 2 year old did 2 miles in 4 min 3 sec that black and wight colt will be worth 60g at least and it is a mungeral with no papers
wow, they actually pace!! Ive never seen a breed (accept for icelandics) who pace under saddle. How fast do they go on 100metr?? What kinda horse is this actually? where do they breed them and where can i find more info about them (in english i dont speak spanish)
If any of these people knew what they were doing to these poor horses. It's hard enough for them to do a VERY slow trot on asphalt....let alone a super fast trot to canter! Those horses feet must be hurting terribly bad... :( :(
Hy for you're information this is a typical sport in Puerto Rico,i'm in this sport in the Island and now in the United States for more than 40 years in more than 30 years in Puerto Rico never any of our horses become sick of any legs .The answer for you is YES WE KNOW all we need for this sport and our horses in the Island are in good hands and have all the experience for take good care of this amazing horses. Thank's
...because it is extremely dangerous for the horse (and rider). Ever tried to sprint with steel shoes on asphalt? Also coming to mind are things like road founder, bone spavin, extensor problems etc etc....
yea but the standardbreds do it anyways!! and you can prevent most of those from happening but not alot of people are smart enough to stop there horses problems before they turn into road founder and all that stuff! yea i agree its totally dangerous too.
The standardbreds do it on a race track with different footing. Often they are even partially barefoot. The Icelandic Horses do it under saddle at fast speed as well. They also race on a special track with better footing. This racing on the road is a total bummer on the legs. BTW a lot of the singlefooters/speedrackers do the fast road riding too. To show off the 'beat'. Each to their own, but of course at the expense of the horse, how else.
Well, I guess they don't do it with the horses you work with, on the track you work. They used to do it with some horses, on the track my friend used to work (BC). Better grip, better bounce, less tendency to break gait.

@LadyKushinda2 right! An that gait is naturally for slow speed. That cannot be healthy for the poor horses!

Uh... You do realise there is no absorbtion on such hard ground, so it jsut reverberates back up their legs causing them pain and eventually lameness.
So if you want to keep your horse use softer ground than that... just thought i would tell you as clearly you don't seem to be aware.
