certainly is addictive.worked for various fairs around south england since i was 15.i tried different jobs, some good paying but always ended back on the fairs.a few years back i brought my own game stalls, hooplas, joints, and my favorite an old coconut shy.i now travel with an independant funfair throughout the south east.i,m nearly 50 now but still love the business come rain or shine.better than any 9 to 5 job!
@coconuts742 Absolutely right, everything you said! I'm the same, I started on the fairs in1981 when I was 15. I'm now 44 and have been working for Marshall Waddington & Sons since 1992. I'd love to buy my own machine and travel with it.
@maestro66uk Hi there, I was just wondering, I am a kid from Hull, 19 years old, and ive loved the fair ever since I can remember, would you have any idea how i can contact the showmen to find a job and get travelling, its something ive wanted to to for a long time. thanks!
@BRITISHKID1992 The best thing you can do is this: The next time the funfair comes to your area, go and meet the lads on the rides and get to know the people's names who own the rides. Ask if you can help out. That's how it starts. Muck in, show them you're willing and have a passion, and you'll soon be traveling with the fair. You can also choose whetther to work full time (traveling with them) or part time.....as and when they need you, you make your own way to where they're located. It's fun!
@maestro66uk Thank you for that good advice Maestro. I've been wondering this myself but at 58 just turned, I may be past it now although I've been fascinated with fun fairs since I was about 9 or 10 years old. :)
There is one part in this video. That is true. Its like a drug the fairground ADDICTIVE. I have worked on the gaff since i was 5 years old. Its the only real job i know. I love it. I have worked for a few showmen over the years.
I've been wanting to see this video for ages! I'd heard all about it from the gaff lads I've worked with. Well done megabus for posting this video. Shame about the quality, but hey, at least it's up here for all to see! Well done that man!
