  • Anika - I go to sleep

    favorite version.

    This version is still great.

  • i love her so much!

  • I think she should have kept her original nose and lips.... she had a gorgeous, exotic look. I don't blame her for getting some of the plastic surgery though. When you're that stunning your want to fight the aging process to preserve some of your youthful beauty.

  • The original is by The Kinks in the 60's...but the most well known version is by The Pretenders in the 80's...

  • this vid is too fast.. can u redo it please? the song is lovely

  • Version from MARION is a Killer!!!

  • Watch MARION11

  • YEAH,stupidly i thought the pretenders did this! this is great original version...

  • I miss Sonny!!

  • great version of a great kinks song

  • I'm glad you saw it distratto66.

  • kind of a walk thru. not too special. amazing song, cher's cool, but kind of flat.kinks version great, pretenders version great. just my opinion.

  • why it's nowhere mentioned that this song is first sang by the kinks?

  • @vondarios Maybe because The Kinks never released it officialy. There's only e demo-version.

  • i like sia's verison better the first 15 seconds are just great

  • not a best version, but I liked it :)

  • That is correct^_^

  • originally written by ray davies

  • @3tangle3 - how can someone originally write a song?!

  • @NeilThompson30 you know what i mean ;)

  • baaaaaaaaaaaad versioooooooon ((((((((

  • Brilliant - never realised Cher did this one.

  • anika killed the cover though!!!!! when i hear her version i wanna go to sleep and not in a bad way. like thats what the song is meant to do.

  • Cher did a good job with this song. I never knew there were so many covers of it. Just found out this is originally a Kinks song. I love the Kinks!

  • And what about VIRGINIE "Tu crois toujours" from 1966 ? It's the same tune but with different lyrics !

  • sonny bono was a genius...............at beating women up......yes salute the wife beating bastard

  • @3tangle3 It was only natural that he then went into Politics.

  • @3tangle3 MYTH

  • @SS421982 prove it lol cher hates his guts

  • @3tangle3 Though she may "hate his guts" (though I don't think she does), it's more than likely due to other reasons. He did not beat her or any other woman. He wasn't the type. I guess you'll just have to believe what you'd like.

  • @SS421982 to be honest I dont really care...this will be a minor issue when the native aemricans rise up again and reclaim stolen land hahaha (its hard not to laugh when life is but a sweet sweet joke :D :D )

  • Sia cant sing...sounds like a baby gurgling

  • sonny bono was a genius. we have no idea

  • Anika (the indie singer from Stones Throw Records) also did a cover version of this song.

  • Holy Cow. I have always thought that this was a Pretenders original. Chrissie Hynde took this song and made it her own.

  • @fiftythirdand3rd

absolutely. I'm a big Kinks fan, but Chrissie Hynde's version shades all other versions

  • Did Ray Davies write this song for Cher?

Never heard this version before, only The Pretenders version, interesting!

    Thanks for posting! :)

  • @welldread I think this was the second version, after Peggy Lee.

  • @welldread this was originally recorded by 'the kinks', believe it or not.

  • Comment removed

  • @tawj66 I've heard the scratch demo that Ray Davies did by himself on piano without the Kinks before but never a version with the full band. Does one exist?

  • I love this song and she is absolutely beautiful.

  • Cher for mayor of Eccentric City!

  • sia brought me here :)

  • Much better than Sia.

  • wow, she was so absolutely gorgeous at any age, she's my hero and I love Her(:

  • Thanks................

  • NOONE,, NOONE,, NOONE, can do wat the great Sia did with this song..

  • @TheDi23

    I don't agree.

  • jeez, this song is perfect for her & son. <3

  • That picture from 0:31 is so beautiful.

    Where did you find it?

    :)

  • Even better then the Kinks in my opinion. Sheer musical perfection. Love her.

  • Beautifully done ,Yuzaha ♥

  • Great video but it got me kinda dizzy, lol:)

  • @kimaam Im really sorry!

  • Sorry, I love Ray and company..He is a writing genius but Chrissie and the Pretender' s version is best by far...She owns this song...

  • In his autobio, Ray Davies had good things to say about Cher.

On the Kinks' 1965 tour, which was generally disastrous, Cher was one of the few pop stars they met who was actually nice to them. He was probably freaking out about the tour, and he was walking around frowning. She tried to get him to stop frowning, telling him it would give wrinkles, LOL.

  • Cher was such a beauty

  • She IS a beauty

  • i think she still is one hell of a knock out

  • This was a very good song by cher. I bought the record in the mid 60's.

  • this song was composed by Ray Davies (The Kinks) in 1964

  • But i don´t want to hurt anyone´s feeling, if you love Cher this might be wonderful for you.

  • Not so good, sounds like a Flower Powersong, something Ray Davies was never into much. There are mauch better versions of this one on the tube, and i don´t mean the Pretenders´ version.

  • Sia Furler's version of this song is brilliant and much more nuanced.

  • If you mean the Sia's version, you're wrong because her r'n'b singing is horrible. Cher is far better but not as good as the Pretenders.

  • Horrible singing? Sia? Are we talking about the same singer? Maybe you had some wax inside your ears... ;)

  • yeah like the rasputina version, it's awesome

  • Or Sia or Marion, too

  • awesome song, i'm a kinks fan, but cher is also amazing, could have done with lesss paint splats though

  • Scary - it seems Chrissie Hynde may have heard this version at some point before the Pretenders did it! Of course, some of that may be because Cher and Chrissie have similar vocal ranges.

  • It may also be because Crissie Hynde rates Ray Davies as one of her favourite songwriters. They embarked on a relationship shortly after her arrival in UK. The Pretenders Stop Sobbing is also a Ray Davies composition.

  • wow... She turned the Kinks' classic song into something that sounds just like I Got You Babe.... epic fail

  • I hope Cher paid Ray Davies a lot of money for the rights to record this great song!!! That's right folks this song was written by Ray Davies of the kinks, the greatest songwriter of our time and the leader of the greatest and most important band in all of rock and roll! God save the Kinks! - I remain dan the fan, the Montvale, New Jersey Hillbilly Boy!

  • Thank you guys for commentting on my vid. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

  • I miss Sonny Bono a lot, he is my idol, I luv him so much!

  • a beautiful song, can't stop to cry!! CHER SINGS AMAZING!!!

  • the slide is nice but the song is amazing!!! make me cry!!!

  • Much as I love you Cher, this isn't as good as Marion's version. Also, the so-called "Wrecking Crew" have skipped over a couple of highly crucial chords in the arrangement of this song in the race towards lunch-break.

  • berry berry good

  • beautiful song........

  • I understand why they had to break up... but damn call me weird but I feel like they were met to be.

  • I love this song and your depiction held lots of magic.

  • Thank you man I thought no one was gonna say anything so THANK YOU^_^

  • This song takes on such meaning in light of Sonny's death. Good job with the video.
