Manmade climate change deniers need to be tortured and executed.
They would LOVE it, because they clearly love destroying millions of other people's homes and crops and businesses by their refusal to give up meat or give up having kids.
Your approach to resolving global issues is very irrational and ignorant.
People can deny whatever they want, the fact is that countries making everything you use have no environmental policies, let alone any respect for the environment. If you are such a radical, how about you flip your keyboard over and tell me where it's made? If that country has respect for the environment, don't throw out your keyboard, and tell me where its made.
@Desertsn0w17 You obviously don't give a shit about the survival of nations or humanity.
The fact that you started with baseless ad hominem attacks like "irrational" and "ignorant" proves that you are a subhuma shithead who never did a day of work in your life, because you never had to think.
And if you are so pro-economy, tell me how the fuck the world economy will survive when millions are flooded out of their homes and crops die because you refuse to give up coal and oil?
@Desertsn0w17 Since you're an obvious overpopulation-denier, then tell me: why do you complain about environmentalists and animal rights activists? We should have more more more environmentalists and animal rights activists.
You do not have the mental capacity (again, because you don't know what sacrifice and hard work on, since you live on the gov't dole) to comprehend the magnitude of things.

it's not saying we should get rid of all C02. It's saying we just have too much of it and that the safe amount of C02 for this planet is 350. Check what it's a bout you may be surprised.
took your advice, turns out you were inaccurate...
CO2 is produced by industry, essentially through the burning of fossil fuel (gasoline)
CO2 is a greenhouse gas that does contribute to global warming
Although it is true that plants require CO2 to survive, they cannot keep up with the increasing human production, therefore leading to excess CO2 in the atmosphere and subsequently global warming.
Saw Bill McKibben talk today at University of Otago - what a brilliant speaker, and what an important issue. The must important number in the world - spread the word.
Let me push this to 1300 comments - How many here went to PowerShift or the DC power plant protest? 15 students from our U here TX went. I didn't see anything on the news about it. I guess we need to get 500,000 people out next time. Or one million. Tho wouldn't want all that travel, so we need to get 1 mill people from around DC to join together, each on carrying a photo & sign sent by us here in the boondocks to show our presence. I'd pay local person to march in my stead.
Dr. James Hansen, top NASA climate scientist in his Bjerknes lecture at the Am Geological Union this Dec said that if we burn all fossil fuels we will tip the climate into runaway warming as on Venus, ending all life on planet earth.

What's 350? This video is the worst it doesnt say anything except "hippies vote for me". I wouldnt be surprised if it was made by someone making fun of you guys for following anything that says "environment" on it and LOOKS positive.
We should all by now KNOW what 350 means. But if we don't, the mystery should spur us on to investigate. We've known about GW for over 20 yrs, & we well know it saves us money without lowering living standards to mitigate it (or we should), so we have no excuse whatsoever to continue perpetrating death and mayhem upon earth's biota, including people. Besides, people who refuse to mitigate might find themselves in a much hotter eternity.
Also, Aaron, think about the impact it's already having on us (people): asthma, hunger (from increasing flooding and droughts), homelessness (from natural disasters)... and it will only keep getting worse if we don't all work together. Before dismissing this all as "hippie environmental" nothingness, educate yourself.
If you want to know what this is about, watch 0:16 to 0:20 about six times in a row. We're on our way to 350 parts per million. If we don't stop there, we blew it.
Behind climate change are two powerhouses: hyper-consumption of resources (both renewables and nonrenewables) and overpopulation. It is quite clear that climate change can not adequately be addressed without reforming our economic systems (and by extension, the consumption habits of our nations citizens).
Get the meme out: our economic systems are the cause of the great issues (unequal distribution of wealth, resource loss and climate change). Halt 'endless growth'!
RE "The bad news is to do it, we will have to engineer plants and expose to sunlight on vast scale or build immense machines to inhale 1/4 of the air...."
Or, we could turn out lights not in use and the myriad of other small and big measures of energy/resource conservation/efficiency.
The world's poorest 40% get 5% of world product. The richest 20% (us) get 75%. We can do better to REDUCE.
Got this from 350org - "I'm writing again from the UN Climate talks in Poland, where one thing has become heartbreakingly apparent: for some people, these negotiations aren't just about numbers and compromise and diplomacy. For some people, these negotiations are about survival."
E.g., the small island states submerging in sea rise...African nations, whose agric is decimated by GW effects -- droughts, etc.
The good news is that 350 is first step. The bad news is to do it, we will have to engineer plants and expose to sunlight on vast scale or build immense machines to inhale 1/4 of the air, steal and sequester the C from the CO2, release the O2, and use renewable energy resources to do this. These huge devices and vast coverage of gene-modified plants will be our species first real steps to weather and climate control. If we do this, YOU will have a job and a future! Else, likely not!
Hopefully the era of inaction and procrastination is over--our wellbeing and that of the planet require nothing less than full mobilization against global warming.
very impressive. must keep this movement in focus worldwide.People must UNDERSTAND that it is not for our benefit only but also for the benefit of our DESCENDANTS. 24shelly49
Strong message...i hope world leaders make the climate crisis a top priority. Especially with a worldwide recession there's a golden opportunity to create millions of green jobs and rebuilding the economy. Both crises are intertwined and can be solved concurrently!
Here the post on a portion of our CO2 lasting up to 100,000 years. Delete spaces - ww w .realclimate. org/index. php/archives/2005/03/ how-long-will-global -warming-last/ langswitch_lang/in
RE methane hydrates, here's a post by a top climate scientist re melting ice-locked methane (CH4) from the seabeds. CH4 is 23 Xs more potent than CO2. However, while a portion of CO2 can last up to 100,000+ yrs, methane degrades within 10 yrs (to CO2 +). But if enough CH4 is released from melting permafrost & hydrates within 10 yrs it could mean total disaster - realclimate. org/index. php/archives/2005/12/ methane-hydrates-and-global-warming/ langswitch_lang/in (delete spaces)
Unless we can keep the atmospheric CO2 ratio at 350ppm or even lower, we risk the release of trillions of tonnes of methane from the melting permafrost into the atmosphere. If you think CO2 is bad, methane is its bigger brother who is serving a life sentence...go ahead release him.
P.S. Yep, emissions from meat production are a problem. Shame it's so damn tasty! What I do is now have 1 vegetarian day a week. Easy to do & means there are 50 extra days now per year where I'm helping the environment. Little things help! ;)
RE "REDUCE YOUR MEAT CONSUMPTION." Very true. We need to do everything we can. So I say, when driving thru the fast-food drive thru, order a veggie burger AND turn off your car while waiting; if it's more than 30 seconds before you have to move forward you save gasoline (a non-renewable resource), save money, AND save the environment.
Good message but it misses a key part of the global warming equation: emissions from animals mass-produced for food. Want to save the planet? REDUCE YOUR MEAT CONSUMPTION.
Good message, but it misses an important part of the global warming equation: the massive numbers of animals raised for food. Want to help the planet? REDUCE YOUR MEAT CONSUMPTION!
I agree with the other comments. It is a no brainer to start doing these things to bring CO2 down to 350 ppm. And the crazy thing is, it is easiest to do the little things. Corporations will catch on soon enough.
seems like a no lose proposition to get in better shape, get in touch with nature, think about other people before you act, and stop acting as if the world is here just to appease the hedonistic leanings of those that would be king regardless of income level. great video - i will pass this around to all my air quality and zero waste networks as a prime example of how LESS IS MORE.
Here are some things to do that cost nearly nothing: Stay home more, or walk to places. Hang up laundry to dry (a great apartment humidifier in the winter!). Stop taking a shower every day. How dirty are you, anyway? Buy less. Read more. Talk to people & listen to them. Great fun and cheap! Before you buy something, ask yourself "How did I get along without this in the past? What will happen to it when I am done with it?" Think about how to create jobs without making more stuff.
People keep saying "do something," and I started thinking maybe we need to stop doing things :) Like driving too much, buying too much. Nearly everything has a GHG component -- e.g., the energy to pump & heat water, etc. So any way we can be energy & resource conservative or efficient is great. REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE are still the 1st principles, with REDUCE the highest.
This YouTube campaign is a great idea! The world leaders in Poland need to be reminded that they work for us, and we are demanding action on climate change NOW.
Manmade climate change deniers need to be tortured and executed.
They would LOVE it, because they clearly love destroying millions of other people's homes and crops and businesses by their refusal to give up meat or give up having kids.

If you think CO2 is bad, methane is its bigger brother who is serving a life sentence...go ahead release him.
gsouloo1 3 years ago
Top message, 350ppm is a worth goal.

I agree with the other comments. It is a no brainer to start doing these things to bring CO2 down to 350 ppm. And the crazy thing is, it is easiest to do the little things. Corporations will catch on soon enough.

seems like a no lose proposition to get in better shape, get in touch with nature, think about other people before you act, and stop acting as if the world is here just to appease the hedonistic leanings of those that would be king regardless of income level. great video - i will pass this around to all my air quality and zero waste networks as a prime example of how LESS IS MORE.
kalypsolg 3 years ago
