Unfortunately there is no vocoder in GB, however you can buy them if they are VST or AU formant separately for GB. I recommend only using AU format (AudioUnit). This format is specifically Apples format for GB effects.

Try a variety of loops not matter if they are classical or unusual instruments. I always use muti band compression for the vocals. The pre-set Fast and smooth and slightly raise the high freq and lower the thresh-hold. Even if you are satisfied with your beats or other elements, mute them and look for possible alternative ones. I use midi keyboard and loops for all of the instruments, no live ones. The background vocals I use flange or chorus effects then lower the mid range EQ so they don't cover up the main vocals. Also I use multiband Equalizer, the "Fast and Smooth" setting.
