I KNEW IT! I KNEW if I typed "wrecka stow" this would pull up! :D
When this came out, friends and I pulled this on tons of people, but it had to be the know-it-all type otherwise it wasn't funny. That's why it's so hilarious: she's reading it in her most PRAW-per uppercrust voice and trying to make it sound like she knows what's going on, and he TOTALLY has her! ;D
Every time song...if u pay attention, is all morris day and prince ONLY! Listen to ur vocals and it was Prince and morris who wrote them songs. 2 men in the studio thats all. Besties they both are silly like that and indeed prince was behind writing the whole movie including morris's part!! He is this mastermind nobody else.
@dimviesel That's not true...Morris Day and Prince grew up together....Morris Day's character in Purple Rain had a lot of Prince in it. Prince wrote damn near all of the Times/Morris biggest hits...a lot of Prince is in Morris and The Time.
Jerome had better chemistry with Prince than with Morris Day. At least in this movie, he was on equal terms with Prince instead of being a lackey and valet as he was with Morris.
@shanedawsonrocksalot wrecka stow = record store, remember when he asked the question if you wanted a sam cook album where would you go and the woman replied wrecka stow
I watched this movie the other day and I can say its the best romcom movie I have seen! I have watched it 10 times on DVD and I have done this scene to my friends and they don't get it!

so funny! growing up a ghetto girl in Cali I knew right away what that was! LOL I love Prince's sense of humor! he's always had it and I think sometimes people missed it or didnt realize it and I think he liked it that way-added to his mystique either people didnt know he was messin with them or they took everything seriously anyway! LOL

Hey do yall remember in the movie when Christopher, and jerome went to mary's house, and christopher, was climbing up the window to mary's room, to give her some... well u know. And Jerome told him that it was Mary's mom.
@HypeRhymz l have watched the movie Under The Cherry Moon many times and its always funny, classical, and creative every single time. Masterpiece for those that get it..........................

Prince and Mary go on a boat to a little island to escape from her father and to be alone, he eventually finds them with his hench men and Prince is shot by one of them, very moving.......but in the end he is in heaven playing with his band so it brightens for a moment....
Prince chose to act this way in Cherry Moon because in Purple Rain he was so sullen, moody, paranoid and suicidal. Christopher Tracy was a breath of fresh air compared to The Kid!
@kalimaganeshshivan Prince want to be a MIX PERSON ( MULOTO) So bad! iIHAD THE PLEASURE TO MEET BOTH HIS PARENTS!! AND THEIR BLK! VERY BLK! AND THEY BOTH LOOK BLK! HIS PARENT'S LOOK LIKE THE HUSTABLES, FROM THE COSBY SHOW!
@jijilog Prince portrayed the mulatto because he wanted to draw in the white audience more to listen to his music. In fact he purposely portrayed "the tragic mulatto" persona to specifically become a sympathetic figure. One reason he did this was because he's a Gemini and has always been fascinated with duality, the other reason, it was an excellent, genius marketing ploy on his behalf and it worked. Even before he did Purple Rain, in the "Controversy" song he sets you up; "Am I black or white?"
@kalimaganeshshivan Well the anser to if he is black or white is, He is bdefenally BLACKS! AND BI_SEXUAL, NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING BOTH!
BUT U DONT HAVE TO SAY YOUR PART WHITE, TO BE ACCEPTED, JAMES BROWN CROSSED OVER, STEVIE WONDER, ARETH FRANKLIN, EARTH WIND FIRE, RICK JAMES!! THEY HAD LOTS OF WHITES INTO THEIR MUSIC!
@jijilog Actually I'm inclined to agree with you on that point, it is a cop out. Prince made up his mind about that after that disastrous concert when he opened for the Rolling Stones and the majority white audience there shouted racial epithets and threw buckets of fried chicken and watermelon onstage. He then decided that to win them over, he would have to play the mulatto card and convince them that he was part white. It was especially prevalent in the Purple Rain movie with mixed parents.
@kalimaganeshshivan I THINK ITS DEEPER THAN THAT, I THINK LIKE SO MANY BLKS THAT ARE SELF HATED BLKS, PRINCE THINKS THE LIGHTER U ARE THE BETTER U ARE! THATS COMMON IN MY RACE! ARE U WHITE OR BLACK?
@jijilog Unfortunately you're correct. There is a self-hatred of black skin vs. light skin and that's very sad because there are so many beautiful dark skinned African-Americans, especially the ladies, as for your question whether I'm black or white, my father was from India and my mother is Puerto Rican and French Creole. My mother's ancestors were from Morocco, North Africa and Spain or Moorish/Gypsy blood. I do have black in me and I'm proud of it, however I refuse to ignore my Indian blood.
@kalimaganeshshivan Well black here in Americans Specialyl, try to copy EUROPEAN STANDERNS OF BEAUTY! I THINK ITS WRONG! AFRINS HAVE A STANDERD OF BEAUTY ALL TO THEMSELFA, IVE BEEN TO GHANNA AFRICA, AND BRAZIL! I SEE BLACK THEIR HAVE THEIR OWN AFRICAN STANDERNS OF WHAT BEING BEUATIFUL IS! IT LOOK MUCH BETTER ON THEM! TRUST ME!
Actually Vanitysadeparis is correct. I've heard Prince talk about this before. That is why he mentioned the Sam Cooke album. Sam Cooke is an old Blues singer from back in the day. Excellent movie!!
I laughed so hard when Tricky fell out of the chair and hit the floor when he burst out laughing! Both him and Christopher are hilariously crazy! LOL!
I saw this in St. Louis when it came out and when this part of the movie came on people were howling and rolling in the aisles laughing their ass's off as well as my self and whoever was with me....it was the first movie of its kind and it seemed like we were in the picture...thats what they wanted to create, a realistic feeling that was set in any time frame using old and new concepts that tricked R brains into believing Prince was going to walk out the screen..the way he'd talk 2 the camera
@zitalee3 In St. Louis everyone went to see every movie that was out back then...before computers were in every home...and I saw this downtown in the "hood" where everyone understood the lango alot better...so when this scene came on everyone fell out and busted up...it wasnt Hollywood executives who were watching with us...just kids in high school and some regular folks.
@MrMedusaLvamp oh manu lucky. i am only 19 years old. i wish i was alive in the 80's 2 go c a movie of his when it came out in the theatres. oh, yeah this part is hilarious. 2 bad i can't c the whole movie though. it's hard 2 find.
@tibscat8888 I do believe he's actually making fun of how "Ghetto" people say "Record Store"....not how "English" people say it.....It's called "street slang" or "Ghetto Lango" or "Ebonics"....As someone running 4 the elevator would say "Hold the door!"....someone from Harlem might like to say "Ho da doah!"....See how easy and simple it is to learn?....Now go in Mommy's room and say "Betch!"....I'll wait......Did Mommy slap the shit outta U?....Then U said it right!
@MrMedusaLvamp Actually he is making fun of her because she doesn't know ebonics or street talk, he's not making fun of "ghetto" people. He's teasing her because she doesn't know anything outside of where she's from and he's actually from the streets or "ghetto" in this movie.
@Lawless66007 I know....I had to explain to tibscat888 how it is since he's confussed about how it goes down...If U read back to his comment...he said he thinks that Prince's charactor is making fun of how English people say record store...and I had to school him on what the deal was...believe me I know what the point of him getting her to say it in Ghetto Slang was..because she didnt know what it meant....Right...but when u have to explain it to someone whos retarded it sounds all different!
I do NOT believe that he is at all making fun (as one person wrote) of “ghetto people”
If anything he is embracing a part of his culture. … Annotating the fact that it takes knowledge to use and understand distinctively the nonstandard Vernacular as many people try to devalue it insinuating that they are somehow more knowledgeable for not using it. Not true
The term that was originally intentional to refer to the language of all people descended from Africans, particularly in West Africa, the Caribbean, and North America. Since the late 1990’s it has been used more often and embraced by some as a nonofficial hybrid language or dialect simplified I think its cool just as long as you know when and when not to use it
@BryanOQuinnTV Oh man U really broke it down...This sounds like a class discussion on retro pop music theory! Can U believe how much everyone has discected this scene?...WTF....It's just a funny scene from an old Prince movie that never gets played anywhere.....Wreka Sto!...Wreka Sto!...ha ha...we get it!...Can we move on now?
@manjin32547 He's playing a charicter in a movie....this isnt reality television....he's not playing himself....he's an actor.....he's playing a role in a ficticious movie called "Under the Cherry Moon"...we all saw it in the theaters before U were born....then we all went down 2 the" Wreka Stow "and bought the album....yes album...before cds were invented! In fact I bought this one on cassette for my car....one of my very favorites!
omg! i love this part! i did this to my little sis, and she cried to our mom sayin i was makin her look dumb (even though she can that herself). my mom just laughed! XD

@kalimaganeshshivan Prince want to be a MIX PERSON ( MULOTO) So bad! iIHAD THE PLEASURE TO MEET BOTH HIS PARENTS!! AND THEIR BLK! VERY BLK! AND THEY BOTH LOOK BLK! HIS PARENT'S LOOK LIKE THE HUSTABLES, FROM THE COSBY SHOW!
jijilog 1 year ago
@jijilog Prince portrayed the mulatto because he wanted to draw in the white audience more to listen to his music. In fact he purposely portrayed "the tragic mulatto" persona to specifically become a sympathetic figure. One reason he did this was because he's a Gemini and has always been fascinated with duality, the other reason, it was an excellent, genius marketing ploy on his behalf and it worked. Even before he did Purple Rain, in the "Controversy" song he sets you up; "Am I black or white?"
kalimaganeshshivan 1 year ago 2
@kalimaganeshshivan Well the anser to if he is black or white is, He is bdefenally BLACKS! AND BI_SEXUAL, NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING BOTH!
BUT U DONT HAVE TO SAY YOUR PART WHITE, TO BE ACCEPTED, JAMES BROWN CROSSED OVER, STEVIE WONDER, ARETH FRANKLIN, EARTH WIND FIRE, RICK JAMES!! THEY HAD LOTS OF WHITES INTO THEIR MUSIC!
THATS A COP OUT!
jijilog 1 year ago

ARE U WHITE OR BLACK?
jijilog 1 year ago
@jijilog Unfortunately you're correct. There is a self-hatred of black skin vs. light skin and that's very sad because there are so many beautiful dark skinned African-Americans, especially the ladies, as for your question whether I'm black or white, my father was from India and my mother is Puerto Rican and French Creole. My mother's ancestors were from Morocco, North Africa and Spain or Moorish/Gypsy blood. I do have black in me and I'm proud of it, however I refuse to ignore my Indian blood.
kalimaganeshshivan 1 year ago
TRUST ME!
jijilog 1 year ago
Actually Vanitysadeparis is correct. I've heard Prince talk about this before. That is why he mentioned the Sam Cooke album. Sam Cooke is an old Blues singer from back in the day. Excellent movie!!

MrMedusaLvamp 2 years ago 10
@MrMedusaLvamp a movie with a reaction like that sounds like it would have done ten times better than it acually did.
zitalee3 1 year ago
@zitalee3 In St. Louis everyone went to see every movie that was out back then...before computers were in every home...and I saw this downtown in the "hood" where everyone understood the lango alot better...so when this scene came on everyone fell out and busted up...it wasnt Hollywood executives who were watching with us...just kids in high school and some regular folks.

@badumpy ...Thankyou kind sir!...My compleate and utter pleasure to searve U!
MrMedusaLvamp 1 year ago
@MrMedusaLvamp Actually he is making fun of her because she doesn't know ebonics or street talk, he's not making fun of "ghetto" people. He's teasing her because she doesn't know anything outside of where she's from and he's actually from the streets or "ghetto" in this movie.
Lawless66007 1 year ago 2
@Lawless66007 I know....I had to explain to tibscat888 how it is since he's confussed about how it goes down...If U read back to his comment...he said he thinks that Prince's charactor is making fun of how English people say record store...and I had to school him on what the deal was...believe me I know what the point of him getting her to say it in Ghetto Slang was..because she didnt know what it meant....Right...but when u have to explain it to someone whos retarded it sounds all different!
MrMedusaLvamp 1 year ago
@MrMedusaLvamp No because when "ghetto" people say Record Store they're going to say Recod Sto!

Not true
BryanOQuinnTV 1 year ago
The term that was originally intentional to refer to the language of all people descended from Africans, particularly in West Africa, the Caribbean, and North America. Since the late 1990’s it has been used more often and embraced by some as a nonofficial hybrid language or dialect simplified I think its cool just as long as you know when and when not to use it
BryanOQuinnTV 1 year ago
