I'm not knocking Sri Lanka, I love the place and the people are fabulous, the roads and driving however are truly nuts. Obviously no investment in infrastructure for decades, everything is close but the nearest journey takes forever. Everywhere you look are military personnel carrying AK47's but there is not a traffic cop in sight. On the taxi ride from Cinnamon Grand to Cinnamon Lakeside, about a 5 minute journey of a few blocks we were stopped by 3 separate military road blocks.
I read the news paper the day after we came down the mountain, there were at least two fatal head on collisions, one involving a bus and the whole road came to a stop when a truck rolled over. Of course there was no way for a rescue vehicle to reach the crash site as every inch of the mountain road was jammed for miles in both direction. Utter chaos.
This was on a relatively quiet Sunday..... I think Sri Lankans deserve better.
I read that both drivers involved in the fatalities were arrested. Hardly seems an appropriate response to people who are also victims of a totally anarchic approach to road transport. Arrest the law makers, law enforcers and the mis users of public and international funds........
@gampolaya great roads, sri lankan roads look like a develped advanced economy. wish we had roads this good, guess we'r never going to get it with the state of our politictions. unless we come to sri lanka.
well good luck to sri lanka economy after the war from india!!!
