Hi I'm MomEof310.. So direct comments to that name. But um, if ure using polyester resin it will always dry tacky... Well at least the surface that is facing upward when ure molding. That type of resin is supposed to be a lil sticky on the side that's in contact with the air, it helps when applying multiple layers... ( reason y no matter what u do, the pieces r still sticky) A solution for that is to spray the tacky side with CastinCraft Spray Gloss/Sealer... It removes the tackiness left behin
If you have a hobby lobby or if you know where you can buy Amazing Mold Putty you can make a silicone mold that doesn't warp when re-used over and over.
Unlike what you did, I put two or three thick layers of the mold maker on my base pendants to make my mold and whenever I use them the finished product turns out very cloudy on the part that was against the mold (not the part that faces the air, which was perfect) and just plain terrible. Does putting the mold maker on in thin layers really matter that much, or am I doing something else wrong?
its a casting medium dentists use to make molds for final impressions (dentures) or for crowns. the pink is more liquidy(?) and gets into detail more and the purple is sturdier and holds it better...idk if that helps
Omg Are u Selling Them if So i Would love to buy 2 how much Would you be selling them for Please tell i Love Katara i Would love her Necklace!!!! Pleaes PM me!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the info, I just started using the mold builder and it seems if you make more than one at A time youre better off and use A blow dryer. I was wondering if you have tried using pigments in your resin. I had some pigments I used in granite work and they will give you almost any color you need. Also if you are coloring them bondo resin may work it is just alot darker. But it dries alot quicker. The clear as I am finding out it soooooo slow to dry and in pretty tricky.
You should make a urethane rubber mold if you wish to cast multiple pieces, it will hold up to the wear and tear is done properly. Hobby cast has some very useful introduction videos on molding and casting.
I meant silicone rubber. *face palm* Of course the on time I try to give advice I say the wrong thing. :P And I just watched the rest of the vid and realized you already have several molds.
Oh You should only use a drop or two of the catalyst. That should be the reason your resin is sticky.
I don't know if anyone has commented about this, because I didn't read, but your pieces are sticky because you're not measuring the catalyst. It only takes a few drops, and it comes out fine. I think it should have the ratio on back of the resin can, just be very careful when you are putting in the catalyst drops... barely squeeze to make sure it drops naturally (it may actually drop out itself if you just turn it upside down).
Absolutely love Katara! know its an old post but for the info. sticky resin = too much color to the resin or not enough mixing or not enough catalyst. adding a few extra drops of catalyst can fix that problem.... or handmake a drill bit that can be used in a dremmel tool to effectively stir the resin.
if they're sticky when done....instead of sanding and toothpaste, you could try popping the pieces in the oven for a bit and just check on them now and then, take out and its not sticky anymore!
Actually, if your resin comes out sticky, you aren't mixing properly- no matter what you think. Believe me. However, you can always seal sticky pieces with Castin' Craft resin spray. Actually, I find EasyCast resin to be the best. It's a 1 to 1 mix ratio, so not as much guessing!
Wow, that was very interesting! And I've got to say, you have some skill, you should try things like Star Wars symbols and comic book heroes symbols. Otherwise, you go girl!
why do you make so many???
