  • ...why do you use it for....hot dogs? 0_o

  • thanks but right when my sister boutht the bird i drop the box with the bird in it down the stairs.i checked it and the bird was still alive.later that day i walked in my room and my lil bro let the parakeet fly away in the middle of winter.i hope he is still alive

  • thank you soo much

  • parakeets i get @ my pet store cost only like 3 dollars....theyre fine parakeets so why spend like 50-100 bucks on one????????!!!!!!!

  • Thank you so much! This really helped me with getting my new parakeet and I live your voice!!

  • haha she uses it to cook hot dogs i find that pretty funny

  • i have $260 to get a parakeet

  • Thumbs up if you spotted a cockatiel in the background

  • It looks like my bird p-air

  • I used to have a yellow parakeet and it was always agressive. Everytime i let it out it would fly to the highest point of the room and would not come down or move anless i made it. Everytime I held her she would bite me as hard as possible. I could never set her on my fingers. She was a bad influence to my blue parakeet which would always enjoy my finger, and sitting on my shoulder. I didn't really understand why that yellow bird was so mean?

  • i will also share my own bird stories such as my first 2 birds that i got when i was 11.I got my first two birdsfrom petsmart a male blue parakeet that i named Sky and a very unique looking yellow and green female parakeet that i named Flora.i got home and i set up there cage and then realeased them!!! Sky flew to the highest pearch while Flora made up quite of a ruccas.i sat by the cage watching tv for 4 hours till Sky finally got bored and started tweeting at me. rest of story is on my page :)

  • Hello i know i dont have any videos up yet but i am very knowlegable on birds just like ruth is(lady in video) i DESINED MY OWN TRAINING METHOD that will have mostbirds on your hand and trusting you in a 1 to 3 days NOTE: (this is just the average all birds are different results may very). at the most being 1 to 1 and a half weeks although most catch on within the second day. any ways iwill awnser ANY questions on ANY type of bird please send a message or post on my channel:) toodel-oo:)

  • You can tell its a boy. Very nice. Light tan is a girl . Very hard to tell the sex of these parakeets when their babies. Addorable pets

  • YOU JUST GOT YOUR PARAKEET, HOW DID U MANAGE TO TAME IT THAT FAST?!? O.O

  • @animalexchange1 thank you for your answer i tried red delicious apple on my birds and they ate it! thanks!

  • I find your videos very helpful. Thanks to you and your videos my family and our bird live a very happy life. I do have a question though. When I go up to my bird and touch her head it gets puffy and she lets me scratch it. Why is this?

  • @elementskating4life Good observing. Your bird is asking you to preen its feathers. It can't reach the ones on its head with its beak so it is asking another flock member to do those itchy pinfeathers. I routinely run my fingernail over pinfeathers and see the casing crumble off. Your bird obviously trusts you. Congratulations.

  • @animalexchange1 Oh okay! Thank you. I've been wondering what shes doing. Your videos really help me too.

  • more not me

  • you are smart I learned alot i want a parakeet even me now

  • their should be more perches then just dowls but great vid.

  • @BlueStar98man I much prefer to have natural tree branches in any bird cage but since the cages come with dowels, that's what many people use. Don't over crowd the cage 2 or 3 is plenty.

  • THE FIST ONE THAT I SEE NOT BITE !!, =-*

  • my two parakeets NEVER eat any fruit or vegible! i got them all different kinds of them for two months but they just ignored it! I don't give them any anymore becuase they won't eat it. Is this bad for their health? HELP!!

  • @birdmarine101 Don't be outsmarted by your birds. Clip treats to the top of the cage, try different items and keep at it. My birds love kale, red delicious apple, and bok choi. Try wedging a slice of apple between the bars where they usually sit.

  • Really good video keep up the good work!!!

  • ... and i use it to cook hot dogs

  • @ZROlson I liked this comment before she even said it because I assumed you were poking fun at her weight.

  • @ZROlson LMAO

  • i want a trained parakeet

  • I want a parakeet and this video really helped! :)

  • I have a blue bird he so sweet

  • we went to the pet shop today and ate animels and suck the owner off

  • i get them from the flea market for $each

  • I liked how clear and easy to understand your video was, you did a good job with that. However, that cage seems way too small for a budgie. How will he get his exercise? Also, an all seed diet can be detrimental to the health of a parakeet. I have seen so many get fatty liver disease and serious weight issues eating a diet like the one you mentioned. Some seed is okay, but they should primarily be eating a pelleted diet with supplemental fruits and veggies. And where are his toys? :(

  • @orphansparrow2 When you take a new bird home, I want it in a cage that is small enough to get the bird out of safely so it will be handled and become tame. A large cage later is fine but I still want exercise out of the cage with you. We sell lots of pelleted diet but our longest lived customers birds eat seed and lots of any table food but no avocado.

  • @animalexchange1 That makes sense. Do you also later give them toys? They love shredding things up, playing with bells, and they seem to also really love foot toys.

  • @orphansparrow2 Yes, yes and yes. Toys are very important once your bird gets over the new environment. Do be careful about which bells you use. Some are designed so that a toenail can go in a hole and when the bird pulls down, it gets caught, Cow bell designs are best.

  • That was really informative. Thank you for sharing this information.

  • Great Video I really want one.

  • I felt the same way about my to parakeets when got them 1is a girl and the other is a boy

  • it's better to put the wire frame along the bottom, because they aren't exposed to it in the wild.

  • I reallllly want one now :)

  • if i bought a bird without it's wings clipped. do you think i should clip them right away or wait a while?????

  • @jcpn222 I'd clip them, that way after you open it's cage for it to fly around, it won't hurt itself or roam too far. I did this to my parakeet and it seemed he got he full flight back in 2 weeks. In those two weeks he got used to perching on my finger and getting petted on the head. It's a male though, I'm not sure a female would let you do many things.

  • @mafatu32 Good answer. Feathers molt and regrow anywhere from 3 weeks to 6 months later. And by the way, female birds can be just as wonderful as males.

  • i just got thise bire should i clip or not clip wings

  • @MrJawskiller Well you choose, I think its better to clip the wings because they can get in alot of trouble.

  • Haha hot dogs :D

  • thanks!!! this video helped alot!! do you have any tips on potty training?

  • One of my two Parakeets had just recently passed away and the younger one was not feeling happy about it. So I have been giving him lots of attention and he seems to be feeling much better now, but is there anything else I could do? What I'm asking is do you have any great ideas? :)

  • @TikiFoamy38 You have done exactly the right thing! And the bird obviously appreciates you for it. You are a very sensitive bird owner and will hopefully have a long and wonderful life with this bird. I know of one parakeet that lived to 21 years old.

  • @animalexchange1 Thank you for your kind words and your help :)

Wow 21 years. That is darn amazing.

  • I want to kill myself I'm so sad my stupid dog is sick and now I can't get a pet parakeet iv already thought of a name polly my mom said I'm not responsible it's not even my fault

  • @ianblast832 Please don't call your dog stupid because it is sick! Your mom does not call you stupid when you are sick! Your dog is your friend and he/she depends on you to take care of him/her.

  • I SOOOO CONFUSED!!!!!!!!!!!! Pety (my parakeet) Had a Dark purple nose den it changd blue with white den white THEN white with Brown! Is it a gurl or a dued?!

    D:

PLZ PEASE!!!!!!!!! reply if you know!!!!!! :*(

  • @Gabilopez444 Probably a girl.

  • @animalexchange1 ok thank you!!!!! Love your videos thoe ;D

  • I wish had a parakeet it would be great a buddy to talk to someone to love, if u have one love him because ur very lucky 

  • mine lived for only 3 weeks

  • @RadomBoy lmfaoooooooooooooo

  • Thanks for the great video, I am going to be a first time bird owner and this really helps. Any suggestions on species of birds? I like the parakeet but I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

  • @howtokillasnake This is not a parakeet, but a budgerigar. Try a proper parakeet, or a cockatiel.

  • @howtokillasnake Take the bird that chooses you. I do love parakeets.

  • I just got a parakeet today and hasn't really been moving a lot. Is he just getting to his new home? Or is something wrong. He was moving fine when i bought him

  • @3SPaki He's in a new place it might take a few days to get used to everything.

  • I love the video but remember this. "both of these blue creations are mutations" (owner and bird) and "both will benefit from a few hotdogs."

  • Thanks best advice....

  • after getting a bird in his cage, when will it start to move and sing and eat ?

  • @keetrolli3 It usually takes 2 or 3 days for the bird to be comfortable and decide it is safe.

  • Thanks! this was helpful :D

  • Omg! That was AWESOME advice now Ik wat kind of cage to get, wat to expect wen he first gets in his cage and I didn't know I had to give them tht calcium bar thing. Thanks SOOO much! :)

  • now i now wt 2 get for my birds

  • um...can you make a video of you cooking hot dogs now?

  • WHOOT! Go Maryland! I'm thinking about getting a parakeet or two. :)

  • I cant wait im getting my so soon I m soo excited thanks for the help :))

  • This is just such a wonderful video! I love how easily and smoothly you explain things and how informative it is! Great video.

  • cook hot doggs much lol

  • I'm 12...

  • How old should a parakeet be to be breeding?

  • @GratifyStupify They may be ready by 9 months but it's better to wait until a year.

  • This creature is eating birds should be

  • my parakeet is a female she is 1 year old and lat year she had a mate an his name was mr.peeps and her name is mrs.peeps and she is very happy and she is always going to be in my days until the very end :D love parakeets forever

your a great teacher and very funny

  • wow fantastic video nice!

  • Awe :) I remember when I had a parakeet.. I had him for the lonnnngest time but he died of old age. He was the sweetest thing as well me and my dad taught him how to say 'pretty bird' he would say 'pt pt pt pt pteeee burr' lol

I hope your parakeet was/is just as amazing and I bet it was/is :D

  • This made me want a pareeket even moree but my mom. But if i had one i will treat it nice and let it out the cage and pet him(: or her

Great Video by the way. I learned alot Thank You

  • @MegaRandomHouse i agree i also did not see any holes. I think this video is very help full in the infomation i would need to obtain a bird. Thank you for the time in putting this video together

  • i wonder how the bird could breath in that box i didnt see no holes

  • @MegaRandomHouse There is actually more than enough air transfer in the box for the bird for hours. I always suggest not leaving any box or carrier in the sun, especially in the hot summer.

  • My parents are going to let me get a parakeet after we move into our new house and I have done a lot of research on the internet , and thank you so much for saying that a book is better. This video helped a lot. Also when u took the bird out of the box the way you held it, does it hurt the bird. Will i have to take out my bird the same way to transfer it to the cage?

  • I have a white parakeet with a pink nose is it a male or female?

  • @lukebeland16

The bird is to young to tell. A baby parakeet's cere, or nose, is always pink, and as it ages it's cere turns a certain color. Females turn tan, brown, or whitish bluish color. Males are blue or purplish.

  • @lukebeland16 All white parakeets are very hard to sex but I would guess it's a girl.

  • @AnimalExchange

Did you know that parakeets do not need grit b/c they can crack seeds already. They are hookbills.

  • did anyone notice a cockatiel on the plant?,thumbs up if you did, thumbs down if you don't

  • I got a spangle at petsmart for ten dollars. They called it a rare parakeet

  • you should make video on how to breed birds

  • WHY WOULD YOU USE IT FOR HOTDOGS

  • where in maryland can i get an english grey budgie :) hope someone can tell me ... they r beautiful :)

  • @wetdog306 OR a blue one :) thanx

  • @wetdog306 We have them at Animal Exchange in Rockville, Maryland

  • I am getting a other male because my old male died and i dont know how and my female budgie is still okay and alive but now I am going to get a other male but he is going to be yellow and white :D come and visit my channel to see my female budgie and my sister pulled out all her feathers on it but she is only 2 years but come and please subscribe Thanks

  • ..."and i use it to cook hot dogs" lol it wasnt even a joke

  • Very nice video. Good information and very nice quality. Your videos about Parakeets have helped me a lot. I'm a beginner with birds, and I'll be getting my first one tomorrow. I am very excited.

    Thanks for the wonderful video!

  • Hi there LOVED the video can you please help me though im thinking of buying a Parakeet your cage seems a good size can you give me the measurements please ive been reading up on these birds and really looking forward to it!! Thx any reply would be great thx michael

  • and the cage needs to face a wall

  • when you first take a bird home don't hold it like that put it in the cage and sit by it and coo or leave the room

  • only take out the grate if you are using a litter, not paper . . . . and get silos for food and water, don't use those cups

  • @sherlockstalker The silos unfortunately may clog and the bird can see seed but not get to it. I prefer an open dish for water since the birds will often decide it is an appropriate bath day. I change the water every day. I do take the grate out and use paper. Then I can see and monitor the droppings which are often the first indication of a problem.

  • Great video!!!!! Thx

  • would you happen to know if that same color (blue on the body and white in the wings tail and head) is in normal parakeets too? Im getting an american budgie (not for show) for my birthday in six days so please answer! thanks!!

  • @maelle713 Normal parakeets in the wild are green. In captive breeding we also see the various mutations of color and design that would rarely establish in the wild. Some have specific identification like spangle or blue or lutino however terms like fancy or rare are just names used to market. Enjoy your bird no matter what type. They are wonderful pets. and Happy Birthday.

  • @animalexchange1 Thanks!!

  • lol I use it to cook hotdogs

  • thanks for teaching me about parakeets

  • i want one but... i have a cat he is nice to animals now ...but he was in the wild once so i dont know

  • MAN my parakeets flew away from there cage i miss my birds... Stupid white boys

  • great video

  • Well.. This video was okay. But what about the toys that a parakeet[s] would like to have? We have two parakeets. Male and female and we spoil them with toys..

  • @PaulaKathy1 Thank you for watching. Please see the additional videos on our Animal Exchange channel such as Your bird and it's environment part 1, 2 and 3.

  • @pumpkin091 no

  • Ive had parakeets for many years. I agree, they are awesome pets. but there are some cons:

    1) they poop like crazy

    2) they take some amount of dedication to tame

    3) They CAN be noisy at times.

    4) They tend to poop in their own water supply so you have to clean it frequently

    5) The bird seeds they eat can make a mess, especially if the opened shells catch the wind.

    6) If you dont spend the necessary time to tame them they will fear you and generally despise your presence.

    I still love them tho:)

  • @Rec0nGunn3r

Yes, parakeets poop all the time but what other pet does not?

Yes, it takes dedication to tame your parakeet, but in the end it is rewarding when your parakeets want to be around you constantly.

Yes, they are noisy but so are other animals.

I don't know about pooping in their own water supply.

A lot of animals are messy eats.

Who would ignore their own pet?

  • very good idea with the hotdogs.. i love how people of your age are so imaginative with things. I have an budgies called honkie and joe by the way

  • I can't wait to get a budgie.

  • "I use it to cook hotdogs". What a great woman.

  • wow this video was awesome! it makes me feel like having a bird thank you!! :)

  • This birds r awesome i just got 1 yesterday best animal ever

  • I like hotdogs.

  • Where did you get the cage and bird from????

    I might be getting one.

  • Well after 10 hrs of not moving my bird suddenly started checking out everything and I actually had to turn off some bird calls as he got really loud answering them late at night. ha. Still hasn't eaten but I'm sure he will soon enough. Never had a bird before but I think he maybe a perfect pet for an apartment.

  • I just got my first bird. It's been a couple of hours so I knew he would have some time to adjust to his new home but he is staying on the ground panting. Should I be worried or will this pass. As I stated I just got the Budgie. Thanks.

  • I think this is a fantastic video. It's good quality, informative and they way she puts things is just fabulous. Thank you for posting!

  • @layala187 Thank you for your kind words.

    Chas for Moon Cheer/HBI productions

  • "my little bird came home on a box" I thought you ment he was sent somewhere and died XD

  • You need to be sure to put safe toys in your birds cage. Parakeets are a very social animal and love to play. They are more likely to talk and sing if you have things for them to play with in the cage. I've grown up with birds and they are wonderful, but a little more harder to keep then lets say a gerbil, but well worth it. My little baby Zo is a rare parakeet and he is a sweet heart.

  • thank you

  • i love parakeets.I have 2 of them. There so much fun to have and play with! :) I love parakeets and yorkies! <3

  • i saw a cockatiel in the background.

  • @2beast4usk8 its fake! lol

  • I love that I just randomly clicked on this video and realized I'm watching you and reading your book Birds on the Couch! I've had many budgies but your book is so helpful and I always feel like I'm learning something new!

  • When you get parakeets you should get two because they have so many friends that they would have to leave and they get lonely and that leads to major depression :( and then they go to bird heaven so atleast get two ALWAYS

Ps I learned this not first hand though

  • @xXBallzToUXx Thek As I have said before, we recommend 1 for a pet, 2 for breeding. Flocks of birds in the wild furnish protection for each other As your pet, you are not only caring for it and protecting it but you are its flock. Some of the most wonderful birds in the world are single pets.

  • wonderful video.Congratulations!!!!

  • :P petstore

  • they are a bit vicious if you dont traim them ( i have 2)

  • I'm getting a new parakeet and whenever I get a new one it bites the shit out of me trying to get it out of its box, can you give me tips on how to hold it to get it out of its box?

  • my parakeet still runs from me smh

  • @queen41701

Haha, Same here :) I'm crossing fingers that I can get 1!! They look so cute :) Well if u do get a parakeet good luck and have fun with it ;)
