it depends on what you want in an MMORPG.

if you want graphics and end-game content then i'd suggest World of Warcraft (if you do not want to pay then try Private Servers.)

but if you want to have a game which offers more choices then i'd say Runescape.

Runescape is offen mocken upon but there is not one other mmorpg out there that offers such a vast collection of skills ect.

Now for real, PW is an super awsome game! Played it for i think 2 years now. Went private servers tough :) It is nothing like WoW. It's completely different. It has more from Guild Wars then WoW. For old-school people who have played the model game id say warhammer online. Def not LOTR online, its too outdated. Runescape is a very nice game if you enjoy games that has a special feeling.

This game I'm not saying its the best at all but its a good game really. Its AQ worlds. Yes it does have membership so it limits you but they update it like everyday. Good storyline, and some of the quests are not grinding. Great cutscenes and actually funny blog. Its a great game to play nd enjoy and PvP isnt released but its coming soon. I played most MMO's, and the one I keep coming back to time and time again:

Everquest.

Why? This MMO had it all. It was fun, challenging, and brutal. The graphics were awesome for its time (1999), the gameplay was intense, and the game required more than just sheer power. You had to KNOW your class, your race, your profession. You learned to cooperate, because failure to do so meant death. And death in EQ was ridiculous. Long corpse runs naked meant you learned fast. Best. Game. Ever.

Oh well, since I am here: I have tried Lineage, Anarchy Online, Earth and Beyond, Dragon Raja and Tibia (ok, last one is more like a graphical online MUD). But the game I keep returning to again and again is Eve Online.

Eve is harsh, the learning curve is as steep as a cliff, and it requires a lot of the players. But it rewards cleverness, and allows for lots of freedom for the players. Eve is truly a sandbox game. Not a game for everybody, but certainly one for me :-)

well to be honest, _all_ mmorpgs gets fun at high lvls, its just so common that (atleast the free mmorpgs) suck so hard at low lvl, like example 2moons, sure, its fun and cool etc, but u get like 1 skill per fifth or even more lvl on some chars (like bagi), and one lvl can take some hours at 50+... WoW is the best MMO ever created for more reasons than I can list. Blizzard has more money than God. They can hire the smartest most creative people in the industry. Free MMO's are horrible by comparison for a reason. They don't have the money to sink into a video game like Blizz does. WoW is just far too complete, polished, and well put together for anyone to deny. 9 million people across the globe can't be wrong.

Does anybody know a decent free online game similar to runescape. (no downloads, free) I'm bored of runescape and want to play a new game, it doesn't have to be an mmorpg

KalOnline is the best MMORPG if u ask me.

especially the various private servers make it interresting to play the game and discover the huge amount of different skills/jobs/dungeons/quests (uuuarg i hate quests^^) and so on...

Yeah 2 Moons is an awesome song its just got a lot of technical issues.... World of warcraft is worth the cost and is way better than any other game I have played! There is over 9 MILLION people that play the game and some parts in the game REQUIRE teams! There can even be teams of up to 40 PEOPLE!! There is a war so when you "beat" the game you can still help out iwth the war!! ALLIANCE VS. HORDE!!

you can play a free version of WoW if you install the game from a disc and play on private servers. but its not as good as the pay to play servers

i played wow but after you get lvl 70 this game is boring without a good guild or friends that are doing with you instances ... just pvp pvp pvp
