@ 30 i thought i was born too late for this music, but i was able to catch them live a few years back. life changing. heh matter of fact i was as the openeing night of the return to forever reuinion, id love to see her join them for a song or two. Also the sax player in this vid had a hand in some of the music for the video game The Sims, crazy !!!
I saw them right after they made the Shoulder(ombro) record and went backstage because Airto had a headache and they asked if any one had an aspirin! Keeping a gymbag and change of clothes in my vehicle with basic med supplies. I gave him a tylenol and sang to Flora in portuguese. She kept saying they were here before? I reminded them they used to back Cheech & Chong and they played in Hbg.,Pa in the early 70s! Flora remembered and said they threw so many beer bottles at the band!
forget the stange hairdos this song has a great feelgood factor check out nothing will be as it was or fairy tail friend from the70s flora purim great stuff why is there not more on you tube.
Ricardo Peixota is the guitar player. I realized it couldn't be David Amaro, for he would have had to age not a single day in the past thirty plus years!
Nice comment, elfcounsul. I remember Airto talking about the importance of listening to the other players, and then trying to do something different in terms of the idea and/or rhythm to effectively counter...
I went to a lecture by Airto back in the 80's. He showed how he made many of his instruments from what he found in a salvage yard. He also impressed on us the value of space, not trying to fill every moment with sound because silence is important too. I don't remember how he phrased it, but he made a lot of sense.
That night I saw him on stage with Flora Purim. It was a revelation.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Thank you for this! Flora Purim and Airto Moreira are simply the greatest. I love them for all eternity.
Their music is so beautiful, so uplifting... Yeah, that does look like David Amaro on guitar... Yeah, that 500 Miles High live album is great! Love Ron Carter and Hermeto Pascual.
well I am happy to see this! I have followed these 2 since I heard FINGERS(the red hand album)in the 70's. I always thought that their best work was on albums with David Amaro on guitar-don't know if this is him on not on the video. They are stil tourng-check his website for schedule.
I sneaked into a concert in Atlanta(1975) when I was a 16 year old kid and it happened to be Flora and Airto and it changed me. I have been a fan ever since. Nobody compares!
Hey, I know these cats playing w/Airto & Flora. They're all from the San Francisco Bay Area. I know Marcos and Celso from Viva Brasil days in the 80's. What venue was this taped from? Is Flora wearing a wig here? Airto's the master.
Celso Alberti makes a great Caiperinha! I had one made by him in Fruitvale in June of 2011.

The song is "Shoulder (Ombro)" and you can get a studio version on "Humble People" album. I'd like to get this live version though. :)

Do you have any idea what happened to David? We had a band together, back in the 60's, and am trying to find him. He is one awesome musician!
