Saw them a couple times at the trubador in hollywood in my early 20s . These dudes kicked some ass !!!! Makes me wanna grow my long hair back !!!! hahahaha !!!! Still listen to them all the time !!!!
Both Audley Freed and Robert Kearns are going to be playing at Warren Haynes Christmas Jam again this year which takes place December 10th ... but whats really cool, is that Jackie Green and Friends featuring Freed, Kearns, and Brad Pemberton are going to be playing at the Asheville Music Hall earlier in the day as well. Should be one hell of a day!
Was lucky to see these guys in a small bar in Orlando FL in late '93 or early '94 - one of the best shows I've ever seen. One of their encores was a spectacular version of Skynyrd's "On the Hunt". Just amazing. Great band.
@Bazzah999 Yea, it was not grunge at all. The grundge scene in the early 90's is what made this band unnoticed at that time. 1993 and 1997 were tough years for this style of music though. Most of BC's stuff was big in the 70's and 80's and I can see the that style in this band. But try to play a song by BC or Free, then play this song or any COL song. yikes. You can find Audley on one of FatSound guitars demos where he recently played a run from a COL song, but only quickly.
Anyone know how to get hold of Robert Kearns? We worked at the same mall for a while back in the day and I haven't been able to find a way to send him a "hello". :(
i am the lead guitarist for FRIJID PINK, and I have to say, this was one of my favorite bands to emerge since the mighty zep...what a fluid guitarist..great vocals, great songs...I still play the piss outa this disk...one of my all time favs !..wish I had a chance to tell them guys how much it has influenced my modern playing.
@biolectron - I loved the grunge era. You have to at least give credit to grunge for ridding the earth of bands like Warrant. Not to mention exposing the world to bands like Sound Garden and Alice in Chains. But I have to agree, this band deserved a bit more recognition than they received. Awesome band!
@biolectron don't hate on grunge bro. A LOT of killer bands came out of that era. Alice in Chains, Sound Garden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, the list goes on.
It was nice to have bands like Cry of Love and Black Crows bring back the "classic" rock sound though!
1st time I seen em they were opening for Robert Plant and IMO weree much better that night than Plant (off night for Robert) Love both Cry of Love cds can listen to the whole thing. Was geeked when Audley joined the Black Crowes (IMO once again Crowes are best band since Zeppelin)
They were friends of my uncle's. Got to go to their rehearsals one night while visiting in NC. Have a cassette signed by them that night. Wish I could find a CD/mp3 these days. I really enjoyed CoL
@marleymann - Actually, Kelly sings quite a bit in Crush. I was Cry Of Love's only tour manager when they were around; I worked for the band for 7 years, through all 3 singers. Was also Audley's guitar tech for a few years. I still keep up with all of them to this day.
The singer's disappeared (not really, but damn, do I miss his vocals!), the bass player is now in Skynyrd, and the guitarist, Audley Freed, played on the Courtyard Hounds release and was in the Black Crowes for a while. One helluva band!
oh my god... this is amazing. I'm from Portugal and I love this. I think it's the best band from 90's along with the awesomes Alice In Chains. This is what I love in music, great riffs and strong voices!
what a waste this should have been 1 of the biggest bands of the 90's but they flamed out, something w/the singer's ego i think, not sure though, like i said 2 bad. i saw them live in 92 or 93 they were the shit live!
i'd say they were more like 20 yrs too LATE. hardly what i think of when i hear the phrase "ahead of their time." not that i'm a huge nirvana fan, but cobain wrote better toons while passed out from the dooj...
Saw these guys twice in Seattle when this came out. Grunge was big, and noone knew who they were. they put on a great show to a small croud. The second time you could tell they were getting burned out by the lack of attendance. too bad, they were a great band, and although they got a new singer and released another album, it just wasn't the same.
die vevo! and why not kill that talking gas pump that asks me to purchase 'buy one get one' coca cola products while i'm filling my car up with price-gouged gasoline...
saw them in calgary about 15 years ago, when they were finished there was about 200 people that wondered what the f*** was that!.they completely tore that place down.i have only seen one show as good as that and that was KISS. Kiss had about 2 million $ worth of stage props------all peacepipe had was guitars and whiskey!!!!!!!!!!
WOW! Me and my best friend went and seen these guys in Cedar Rapids, Iowa back in 1994. It was a small venu, almost like an over sized bar/tavern. They fucking burnt the place down!
Saw your comment about COL. They were GD incredible! Kelly is actually working on some new material in a project called "sun dawg"...real similar to COL's blues/southern rock sound. He also plays in a band called CRUSH in Raleigh NC. Dont know what happened to Audley, I heard he went on to play with the Crows...but I dont really know. G86
Audley did go on to play for the crowes for a little while...but not anymore. he's a touring guitarist now for whoever wants him....he's played with the Dixie Chicks, Joe Perry...he'd done Chris Robinson's New Earth Mud record....he's basically today's Duane Allman...hehe....he does session work for EVERYBODY!...hehe....COL needs to get back together though.....I think we need them!....hehe
@biolectron Actually I think these guys were 20 years behind? Sounds like regular ol 70's southern rock to me. I think 38 Special had a good run in the 80's, and they were only 10 years behind. BTW the guitarist is playing professional poker now, he wears sunglasses so you can't see him. This is o.k. but I'd rather listen to Alice in Chains...or dig up my 8-tracks.
@biolectron I like the song, but "Way ahead of their time"? Seriously? It's a cross between--or maybe an homage to-- Billy Squier, Bad Company, Skynyrd,Free, etc. Also, "bad grunge"? So they were "overshadowed" by bands who possessed some semblance of originality? I like this band. If you like this band, then fine, but there's no reason to debase other forms of music in order to support your opinion.
@biolectron they weren't really ahead of their time. they came around too late. grunge was popular. these guys should have been around in the 70's. them and the Black Crowes both have that 70's rock sound
Damn the 90s had some great bands. To bad I was only one and unable to enjoy it well it lasted.
