  • I don't even play the banjo...and I watched this whole video O.o

  • @ameganforlife The more you know haha! Thanks for watching anyways

  • Instead of the 5th string capo, you can also do what Winston Marshall himselve does, and that is tuning your 5th string up to A, hope it helps a little

  • is there any way i could get a tab for this

  • For those of you wondering about the little capo on the 5th string, you can get little "railroad spikes" attached to your banjo. All they are are little metal hooks that you can slip your fifth string underneath and it holds it in place the same as a capo would. I have them on my 6th and 8th frets and if I need it the fifth string on a different note, I just raise the tuning. As far as I know, they're easy to install! I had mine installed by a professional, though.

  • I can play the same way when I use a 6 string banjo? am a beginner and do not even have guitar skills. what if I would help ^ ^ ( i hope google was a good translator xD )

  • @jakolt123 Hi there! A six stringed banjo is most likely a banjitar, which is a mix between a banjo and a guitar. It would be tuned like a guitar ( e a d g b e) so this tutorial wouldn't work for that instrument. Hope that helps!

  • @civilizedpirate19 mastercraft from banjo hut dot com !

  • For those having trouble playing the bridge because of that quick switch, try this:

11-9-10-0 relative to capo with a roll of 4-3-1-3-2-1.

It's the same notes but you can hold your finger position.

  • This is excellent! You are very thorough in your explanations and skilled with the banjo.

I would argue, however, that the roll pattern is either 5 2 3 1, or he at least switches to that roll pattern periodically. Try starting the Bm in the chorus with it and tell me what you think.

  • Thanks :] finally someone who know what they are talking about :]

I wonder how winston does it though

  • @awsinger1 i feel like he may do it a little different, but i'm glad this works!

  • duude. thank you thank you SOO MUCH for this!!! :D i am learning banjo and ive been looking EVERWHEREEEE for somebody to teach this. this is AWESOME!!!! :)

question...where did you get that smaller capo thats on the 7th fret? i need to get one.

  • your the man.

  • THANK YOU!! This is awesome man, I've been wondering what he was doing on this tune. How'd you figure it out?

  • hey, thanks for the video

i was thinking about buying a banjo after listening through the mumford and sons album over and over again. i do play the guitar and i think i'm not that bad, but i've got a few questions about banjos.

first of all which banjo would you suggest, 4, 5 or 6 strings, and which banjo do you use. which brand would you suggest for a beginner like me, and what kind of banjo is used by mumford and sons? and at last, how is it tuned.

i'm sorry if my english is bad or something^^

  • @Badschirah Hello! Really it depends on what kind of music you want to play. I believe 4 string banjo's are minstrel music that is kind of strummed, 5 string are bluegrass and six string aren't actually banjo's, they are banjitars. As for brands, just play until you find one you like. And mumford and sons use a Goldtone EBM Electric banjo!

  • @Badschirah and it's tuned GDGBD!

  • @Badschirah and I use a mastercraft banjo from banjohut . com

  • @nubnubs27 wow thanks for the quick answers, i think i'll visit my local guitar store at first and maybe try it out before i buy my own banjo, but i've found a mandolin on my grandma's attic and i've gotta see what's up with that first ^^

keep on making such great videos and thank you very much!

  • @Badschirah sounds like a good plan man! PLAY THAT MANDOLIN, they are such fun instruments! And thank you

  • Hey man I just picked up the banjo I am left handed also I can't find any left handed books or lessons. What do u suggest

  • @savages28 what style are you trying to play: clawhammer, bluegrass, classical etc? If you look around on the internet you can find some books, other than that I guess I'd say just try to reverse the tabs and chord shapes you see. You can even write them out your way so you have a go to chart

  • I was referring to the female in your group being sexy in one of your other videos, but after seeing this I can say that you are sexy as well.

  • @AldenShaw hahaha why thank you sir/madam!

  • @nubnubs27 so...how about your get your banjo back and do some avett tutorials?

  • @AldenShaw come june I will get to work!

  • could you do a tutorial for some other Mumford and sons songs?

  • @buckhill010 I really want to but my banjo is back in california right now, hopefully over the summer!

  • Great work nubnubs27. If you're not already a banjo teacher you should be!

  • @tripscreen hahaha thank you! Sadly I can only play a few songs, but one of these days I'll get around to learning this thing front to back

  • Long time guitarist here, just picking up banjo. I really wanted to learn this song. Thanks a lot man!

Ps. Why would anyone dislike this video???

  • @maj84guitar1 there's another guy on here who has a less complete tutorial, maybe him haha? Glad to help mate!

  • this is awesome and totally helped me! can you post one of the cave?

  • @ochsalover glad to hear it! i plan on doing it during the summer, my banjo is back home for now. There are a few on youtube though if ya need it soon

  • cheers man, had to tune the G up 2 steps instead of using a single capo though haha, and for the verse, when it goes Bm pinky, D back to Bm it does another pinky then Bm in the track...

  • @sethmarongg sweet thanks man!

  • @oconeeheritagecenter hey i'm sorry I've haven't gotten around to a written version for ya yet, my spring break is coming up and I will see what i can do about that next week!

  • Dude perfect thanks man!!!
