the single "Better than You" really doesnt prepare you for the overall style of the album which is a "10" in my opinion. I don't know why the next single "I'm In Love" didnt take off the way it should.
@VIEREMIX I agree. I think the fact that she is white is why the record company decided to promote her in a more pop direction. And since she has contemporary gospel leanings, it seems they sort of went for that Amy Grant-type of thing at the time with the Keith Thomas involvement. Soulful gems like "A Love for All Seasons" and "Days Like These" were criminally overlooked!
It is amazing how much talent we have here and a lot of us are not even aware of. I have only heard of Lisa Keith when she sang "Making Love in the Rain" ft Janet Jackson on Herb Albert's "Diamonds" album. I was not aware of anything else she had ever done until now. Obsolutely amazing!
Lisa keith has a fantastic voice and graced the background of many of jam and lewis productions. She can be heard on some of janets stuff and the stuff they did with the human league for example. Unfortunately her career as a solo artist never really got off the ground. The matrial she was given for her album wasn't to be fair that great. Shame
She actually was involved in writing most of the songs on her album (as she talks about in this EPK)! They may not have been as commercial, but the songs are pretty solid imo!
I can hear the similarity in some of her vocal runs (and note that she also sang back-up on many of Karyn's songs); but the tone of her voice is definitely distinctive to me! I think if you heard her whole album, you would know what I mean!
ahhhh!!!!!!! Retrorhythms strikes again!!!!!!! I thought I was the biggest Lisa Keith fan ever!!!!! "Love Is Alive and Well" was the song I fell in love with and I even wrote to her some years ago but the letter came back I think (wrong address)....I wish she would get the credit she deserves
Aww, that's cool! In '95, I asked a publicist at Perspective about her...and she was already gone from the label. But the lady did not know any specifics. I did notice that Lisa sang on the CD of a Minneapolis rap/gospel artist from last year!
Thanks again, retrorhythms. This was great. Like others have stated, Lisa is a very talented vocalist. And Uncle Jam is right, Lisa is the rare artist because she has 0 ego. Not saying that artists have egos, but with Lisa, she has always been humble and so laid back, without an ego.
This prompted me to start listening to "Better Than You" repeatedly. I Love that song! How high did that song go on the billboard charts? Very Amy Grant-ish with a Hip Hop Beat! :>
If memory serves me correctly, straight from Perspective. I reviewed her album in the mag that I published at the time (see my channel page for more info). Do you know Lisa?
Indeed a very talented and wide-ranging vocalist! I believe someone posted a comment on another clip of hers that Lisa and her husband are musical ministers at a church. I may be confusing that with another artist who disappeared; but I am pretty sure that she's very involved in church in some way.
YOU have spoke the truth!!!!!

I think that it just scratched the surface of the top-40 of the pop chart, but was higher on adult-contemporary (probably the top-10).

Very underrated vocalist! She can hit those high notes with precision. It's a shame that she only released one album. What is Lisa up to now?
