Class song, I followed The Smiths all over in the 80s! Greatest times of my life! have any of you come across a band or duo earlier named 'Silent Thinkers' I'm not sure? You can search them in youtube. The singers voice reminds me of Morrissssey sooo much, worth a look for any fans of The Smiths!
Does it matter if someone found the smiths in the 80s or from 500 days of summer? The point is they found this incredible band, and that should be celebrated
I'm surprised that people learned of The Smiths from 500 days of summer. In all honesty it makes me think people listen to the radio to much and can't find something without it being mainstream. I'm sorry that's just my jaded opinion. It's just music and great music at that.
@TheMcPhly well i dont think is much better, that depends on many things. my guess is that if we are in 2012 we shoudl try to enjoy it as much as posible.
I'm just a teen right now but this song holds so many memories. When I was a little toddler I used to sit in the car with my dad and listen to this song so much. I grew up listening to The Smiths. Every moment I hear this band it sparks so many memories alive <3

@hosshouhanon4real Me too! I'm now ashamed to say, I'd never heard of the smiths before 500 days of summer! I wish I' just heard them earlier, or better yet been around to hear them first hand!

@JohnnyNny94 I grew up in the eighties,I graduated high school in 87 and I can tell you that the Smiths are the best thing to come out of that decade,if it wasn't for the Smiths I wouldn't remember that decade existed.
@RineganOwnz Same, couldn't have said it better. I like to listen to them when I'm driving to work, definitely cheer me up and make me ready for another day.

@RSJuggo3 yeah, I was being sarcastic by quoting the movie? Obviously I like The Smiths, I was havng a dig at people who only know them because of the movie. And who cares if they do, it's making their awesome music more popular, which is fine by me

When I first heard of Smiths and Morrissey`s lyrics, I thought "wow" a rare and unique way of making sense out of nonsense! English eccentric poetry at it`s best!
No, I don't see how that would be useful to this converstation at all. Take my word for it - as I seem to know more about this than you, they are not the same.
It looks to me like you have a perfectly good defenition of R'n'B right there, why bother asking me? correct me if I'm wrong, but your just proving what I said, that they are NOT the same. In case you hadn't noticed, I wasn't defending R'n'B - infact I would agree completely with how you defined it. Seeing as you seem to know that they are completely different, why bracket them together?
p.s. I'm an art student, but that doesn't mean I know everything about art. Noob.
"il y a cette lumière qui ne s'éteint jamais..." (Benjamin Biolay a repris cette phrase traduite dans un morceau de l'album "trash yéyé" en 2007, "qu'est-ce que ça peut faire" en clin d'oeil aux Smiths qu'il admire lui aussi. C'est comme ça que j'ai découvert cette chanson!) Et j'aime beaucoup, je vais me plonger dans leur discographie je crois!
When Johnny Marr first heard this song come together in the studio with Morrissey's lyrics, he thought it was the best song he had ever heard. I don't think he was boasting.
I was smoking weed for the first time in my life tonight and as i sat there... stoned kind of.... this song started playing in the room below me, it was like a religious experience, I nearly cried, incredible moment.

(seriously, i miss those "religious experiences" weed gave me at the beginning.. but i hope you smoke in a smart way : at the happy medium!
