  • This is Rolf Harris isn't it?

  • When I first heard the song, I thought it was about having sex with sheep. "His Billy boiled" - he had an erection. "Jolly", as in "jolly roger"... "Put a jumback in his tucker bag" - it's as if he put his penis in a bag. I think the song made more sense before I verified the actual meanings of Australian words used in the song xP But seriously, nice song :)

  • Im 12 years old. And im proud to live in australia with my grandma!

  • I live in Australia for four an a half months in 1991/2, I di not hear waltzing matilda one during all the time that i was there. Nor did i hear the offiial National Anthem.

  • I wished this was Australia's National Anthem *it would sound groovy ^^*

  • 1:10 iswhen the song starts if you dont want to listen to the defintions

  • Believe it or not this song was taught to me in Elementary school in the 60's....in south Central Los Angeles. I never forgot it. My siblings and I would go home and teach each other great international folk songs taught to us by some wonderful teachers who I remember fondly and still miss some 40+ years later.

  • how do you fit a jumbuck in your tuckerbag?

  • @oC00nz With determination. If you're hungry enough, you'll get it in!

  • notice this is not a waltz lol

  • This is the best song ive ever heard. thanks to Gigolo8 for posting the best song ever made.

  • @Username14388 This is the first time someone has replied to one of my comments so, Cheers ;-)

  • Can you please tell me who is singing this version of the song?

  • @Username14388 you don't know that is the great Rolf Harris

  • the skin sheep, you idiot! :))

  • No.

    That isn't cognition.

  • How the heck does he fit a sheep in his tuckerbag?

  • Proud to be Australian. Nothing better then a song about a hobo!

  • @Fail27897 Ha ha ha.

  • Such an addicting song.

  • 1) This song is about a Swagman and his loneliness driving him mad

    2) No Aboriginals were referred to in this song.

    3) America shouldn't be hypocritical about ownership of the land due to Native Indians and Inuits (Eskimos in Canada).

    4) Australia is a free country and controlled by themselves not England.

    5) I'm Irish and we still don't have Northern Ireland! So forget giving Australia back when we are missing half of our country!

  • @StormCOG Just adding to no.1- the swaggie was knocking off a sheep [jumbuck] when the landowners [squatters] caught him. In true Irish/Australian fashion he thought 'fuck you bastards I'll drown before you catch me.'

My dad is a County Clare born true Irishman who came out here in the 60's because there was no work, he married an Aussie girl [my mum] and they lived happy ever after.

In my view the best thing the English did was send their convicts here. Cheers.

  • @StormCOG thats not what it about bro..

  • @StormCOG If you're believing that we're independent and free..then what Queen E2 doing on our coins and banknotes?Historically, British Crown

Officials were known as the most ferocious, and atrocious beasts, who,in their actions, equally performed cruelty resembling NAZI Waffen-SS treatment. They were known as corrupted, power hungry people showing no mercy to subordinates. They committed countless unlawful killings, assaults and torments to others, both inside and outside prisons across the land.

  • @StormCOG WALTZING MATILDA WAS AN EARLY PROTEST SONG AGAINST THE BRITISH CROWN, OUR SONG OF FREEDOM.

WHY DON’T WE DO ANYTHING ABOUT LEGALISING OUR LIBERATION FROM ENGLAND ONCE AND FOR ALL?

  • Who did this version of the song? It is my favorite version EVER!

  • @wvbirdiegirl Rolf Harris

  • Sometimes i wish that I could live in oldies .. same age as them ... :)

  • Australia-a combination of Great Britain, Texas, & their own home grown peculilarities...I LOVE it !

  • this song perpetually plays arrowed Saxton Hall

  • gigolo8: sorta liking u.

  • wheres is that statue at 2:33

  • 4 chords song brought me here.

  • This really offensive to some of us Australians and the Aboriginals should have more space than all of the immigrates and white Australians because we white people (not being racist) did invade the Aboriginal country please like this if you agree if the Aboriginals should have more of there space than we should have of there space in this country

  • @Starsonbabe You obviously don't realise Aboriginies only make up 2.6% of the population.

  • BEST SONG EVARS!

  • 1) Australia must be returned to native people,2)aboriginal language must be included as an official language and studied at schools, 3)the flag must be changed representing the true meaning of Australia,4)the truth about illegitimate existence of British Crown since Cook's arrival must be revealed and aboriginal ownership must be fully recognised and sealed,5)QEII must be removed from coins and banknotes,

6)life penalty must be applied for damages caused to aboriginal people by BritGovnt/Crown

  • @DocWog that will never happen just like indians will never get america back

  • @DocWog good luck barking up that tree, we aboriginals in north america got just as much of the shit end of the stick but it is what it is, wish and hope in one hand and crap in the other but someones always going to be gettin shit on, its life so fight

  • @DocWog What native people? Are you including the people that term themselves Aboriginal when they're 1/16th, totally ignoring the Scottish, English, Irish and a 100 other nationalities their dna carries. They wouldn't be doing this for the 'aboriginal dollars' would they. The 'aboriginal language? Which one of the 60 currently spoken do you prefer? The Australian and Aboriginal flag already fly side by side. In fact we're the only silly country that recognises two flags.

  • @boleyngirls Why to mislead people? When Aboriginal flag was officially recognised and fly side by side? Feathers for brain?!?!Australia's the only National Flag laid out in 1953 comprises the Union Jack, the Commonwealth Star, and the Southern Cross.Interesting, isn't it the same year Queen E2 was coronated in England? And why are we all tolerating foreign existence of UK and Northern Ireland flags on the top of our flag?As to the Aboriginal language, find respect-at least we owe them that much.

  • We sing this in scouts. We argue the meating all the time

  • the amount of people who think this should be our national anthem

dont get me wrong its the greatest aussie song of all time but we shouldn't have a song about a bloke knocking off a few sheep being our national anthem

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. :p

  • Luv this song

  • It's really a nice song, but it's so awesomely presented too. I really like the intro, it's entertaining and teaching. Any artist credits? Is that you doing it Gigolo? Thanks for sharing either way!

  • This Pom loves this song & respects all things Australian - certainly moreso than the Americanism which is constantly rammed down our throats!

  • Would you have any idea of the name of the artist of the watercolor at 2:06? Thanks.

  • @adagioseven google chris owen western art

  • If you have ever had the pleasure of drinking with Aussie Soldiers, you will never forget it!

  • 86 people dont have swag

  • If only he had a land cruiser. Lol

  • how could the swagman possibly fit a jumbuck in a tuckerbag?

  • Nothing makes you feel as patriotic and proud of your country than a song about a Hobo who names his bag Matilda...

Ah... it's great to be Australian.

  • in my opinion, this guy really sounds like the sniper from team fortress 2 :D

  • is he sounds like Rowan Atkinson , or just me ?

  • @X3rztesp just you

  • who sings this?

  • In Newfoundland we call a can we use to make hot water for tea or coffee a billy can. Very nice song.

  • I used to think this was the Australian national anthem. I was very disappointed when I found out it wasn't.

  • @pqwilrj Haha as I'm listening I'm doing a project for school on why it should be. It should be, it represents Australia so well, without really trying to

  • @JJMM33

The sad thing about that joke is that years later, they found a piece of the baby's clothing in a dingo nest and she was released.

  • "Anywayse lets get on with the song..." :D

  • Comment removed

  • it's actually kind of a sad story

  • "En hommage au bush australien mais AUSSI à tous les AUSSIES morts pour défendre notre LIBERTÉ ! "

  • Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong, Under the shade of a coolibah tree, And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled "You'll come a Waltzing Matilda, with me." Waltzing Matilda, waltzing Matilda You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me. And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled, "You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me." Down came a jumbuck to drink at the billabong, Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee,
  • A billabong is pool of water that have been cut off from a meandering river. In swedish they are called 'korvsjö'.

To english that translates as 'sausage lake'. That's because they are generally formed as a crescent or a 'hot dog'.

  • @dogofman To me a "billabong" is also a watering hole that is filled by rainwater and often dries up.

  • @calcar16 THat's more how the word is used now rather than it's original meaning.

  • I love this song sooooooooo much and the man sings good

  • By Who. You mean, by WHOM? Dr Who.

Whyt are you asking ME, retard, those are MY Princesses.

Dr. Who killed your mother for getting too handy with the nails and crosses.

  • I thought it was funny... like the NSA over Sirius with thier "grunt grunt" routine on the way home. I can trave lthrough satellites too now, as you 've seen.

Oh come on, Prince William. See the humour in it. Come here, KID..look. Your mom was murdered. HAHAHAHA Wedding present. Enjoy...

  • ...waves flaming nuclear fuel rod which is NOT a prop from a sick, tiring, expired old "Christmas" joke that wasn't fast enough.

    Oh, the pressure....

SING. More people are about to die because whatever it is, "I'm too sexy" again.

  • Cut!

    Urm, thanks "Claire E Bear"...

Small plastix cross isn't it? That's why I don't look at them.

    Those OR pencil tips.

  • reminds me of my mum :-))

  • I love this song....

I know its kind of dull, but it bring that national I don't know what that any national anthem brings to their people.

Yes, I know its not our anthem, but it should be!

  • long live australia! canada and australia = brothers from the same mother. Wouldnt mind living in aussie land some day, and play some aussie rules football there

  • @swinsontinson Well aren't you just blood ignorant and stupid.

  • Mygrandmother used to sing this to get me to sleep, very nice memories here

  • YES.

  • this is Aussie ,,through and through ,,ok,,,leave it be ,,,

  • Any body else look it up cause of axis of awesome

  • Happy birthday (Feb 17, 1864) to Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson, the gent who wrote this song =)

  • perfect video for the perfect song!

  • not a very patriotic song but i think it should be the national anthem of australia

  • @markhellstone If by that you mean not militaristic and jingoistic enough, I think you have a pretty skewed definition of what good patriotism is

  • @icantfindanamex86 well patriotism to me is to love my country and uphold everything the country is, take a look here at finlands national anthem for example (my favourite) Our land, our land, our fatherland, Sound loud, O name of worth! no mount that meets the heaven's band. No hidden vale, no wave-washed strand. Is loved, as is our native North. Our own forefathers' earth. Thy blossom, in the bud laid low, Yet ripened shall upspring. See! From our love once more shall grow and so on.
  • @markhellstone Obeying the police, and bowing to a snooty rich bastard when you've got fuck-all, is NOT patriotic. There is more to be admired in the man who resists the establishment that made him poor in the first place.

  • Yeah i agree....... good song eh mate!

  • @markhellstone That or "I am, you are, we are Australian" :)

  • Take the kings shilling for Marlborough and me!

  • Nice one Rolf !!

  • I like this version. It's the best I have heard.

  • Nice

  • I truly hope to visit Australia in my lifetime. I've met many from there and always enjoyed them! Thanks!

  • We have a hobo down town that walks like a God dam robot when he's drunked up and shit. We call him The Robo Hobo. lol Dude is hilarious!!!!!!

  • That must have been a big bag to fit a whole sheep in there.

  • Good on ya Rolf old mate!

  • who else likes the image of him shoving a entire sheep in to his bag?

  • happy australia day

  • aussie aussie aussie

  • My boyfriend made me listen to this..... XD It's so epic.... but he's gonna die. D:

  • To all my fellow Aussies out there. Happy Australia Day for Wednesday. Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi

  • This rendition of this song cheers me up every single time. I was depressed a second ago, now I feel awesome. Guy is the best psychologist anyone could ever need. Best part is 0:00 - 4:20

  • @eastwood1010 0:00 - 4:30. This song gives 10 extra seconds of joy each time it's heard.

  • In the southern States we sing Dixie-waaaaaaaay down south they sing waltzing matilda--great traditional music lasts a long time eh?

  • I am sure a Matilda is another name for a swagman and the waltzing bit is youl'l be waltzing ( dancing) to the jail with me!..Hence the Swagman will be waltzing to the jail with the trooper :-)
