Thing is, even if you never played the first (or 2nd and 3rd), you can still appreciate this level. It's by far my favorite, and it was meticulously built to just be awesome and nostalgia-inducing.

Hearing this in Act 4 transformed me back into the 11 year old sitting in his room playing Metal Gear Solid for the first time and joining Snake's adventure. I had a lump in my throat at the beginning of that act but couldn't hold back tears when I got to the helipad. After the epilogue of this game I cried for a good 10 minutes realizing it really was over for Solid Snake. Thank you Kojima-san for giving me the experience of a lifetime. It truly changed my life. *gives a Big Boss salute*

@DrStrangefate I think it was a similar experience for any fan of the game. I was up late the time that I got to this part of the game. Woke the rest of the house with my incoherent sobbing at how good it was. Kicks you a lot harder than most movies you have seen, right in the heart. Which is what Kojima was hoping for I guess. He succedded.

when I first played MGS4 on my PS3 back when it was new and like I got to Shadow moses and heard the "best is yet to come" (ending song for MGS1) I got nostalgic. such great memories. I even went to all the parts of Shadow Moses and well such memories. MGS will always be my fave tactical espionage game. sad that Solid Snake cant age and die normally since he is a clone of Big Boss and the US govt doesnt want others to clone him.

This is beautiful thing that Hideo made game like this. It's been 11 or 12 years since he made MGS1 and he's know that this game is legend and he's doing it like he's don't care about profit's couse for example for me this bringing backs memmories and good old times but hwo cares about this cutscenes and voices from 12 year old game when he play it for the first time? Yes, 5 million points each, but that requires alot of playthroughs. But believe me, the zero alerts and zero kills way is alot more fun.

Believe me it can be done. And if you want, do it on the easiest difficulty. You can then change the difficulty level when loading a game-completion save.

The reason this part is emotionally strong with Snake, and the person playing is because not only does Snake go back to his memories 9 years ago, but you do as well. Perfectly executed use of music and tone to match. Hideo Kojima outdid himself in every aspect by putting in such a thing.

yeah lol, i used a dvd recorder.. there are other options though.. i only use a basic SCART connection not HDMI though... basically where the connection would normally go into the tv, it goes into the recorder and a separate lead goes from that to the tv and it records.. details have escaped me but thats the how it works.. dvd recorders arent expensive i dont think :S mine cost £40 pretty good..

Yes snake does go back to shadow moses in MGS4. The reason for the trip is to prevent liquid from getting the rail gun from metal gear rex. Liquid intends to use this gun to fire a nuke that will destroy the JD. His GW forbids him from using large ballistic weapons so his only means of firing the nuke is through this rail gun.

Those machines? the scarab things? tri-armed black things? those beams of light you see are their vision field, break the beam and they see you. or if you're in an alert mode. in each area they're in they have a repeating pattern for search... watch them, and you'll find a way past them without being spotted. =D

alternatively, silenced M4 take them out from a distance and run like hell... =|

oh, yes... they can see past the stealth camo! bloody annoying. -_-
