  • @scouselad1991 The song, "Dear Diary," by Masta Ace on the album, "Disposable Arts," uses this sample.

  • So far i've learned to cover this song on my piano and guitar. great song to sing when your depressed lol

  • @jackrabbitsrevenge can you tell me the piano chords please?

  • lol i forgot to type "the stones" how could i forget them..

  • Man this band fell under the shadow of Beatle mania :( I got the threshold vinyl for one dollar at a thrift (I love high fidelity more then compression if you know what i mean).. I instantly fell in love with the songs.. classy, catchy, and gets stuck in your head. :( its sad that when my generation looks back at the 60's & all they see is the Beatles, the who, riots and protest's. Bands like this get over shadowed. Guys and gals my age never truly get to experience true creativity like this.

  • Dear Diary...

I saw a Live show Today.

    California was Cold.

My Friend left me Alone there.

  • @uriahheep108 I am not sure I understand what you're saying, but it doesn't matter anyway...

  • Brilliant!!

  • thats heavy

  • Fuck yeah Odd Future

  • @cloudjia nicely said, they were an awesome band live, saw them live in Chicago in 1972, and they performed parts of this album, including the Voyage and Have You Heard, it was AWESOME!!!!!! God, bring back those days when concerts were something you looked forward to for months!!!!

  • thumbs up if you listend to hodgy beats sampled version of this before searching this up.

  • John Lodge,Mike Pinder,Justin Hayward,Ray Thomas,Graeme Edge.Simply The Best..The worlds smallest symphony orchestra,Symphonic Rock at it's best They Are THE MOODY BLUES!!!!!!!!!!!

  • FREE EARL

  • no homo

  • Oops, June 8th at Moorhead, MN, according to google, duh.

  • The Moody Blues is playing soon near me at Moorhead, MN. I think it is May 6 at an outdoor theatre. I still have all my albums which include 3 of theirs, which were among my 1st dozen albums ever. I've converted those to *.wav files, scratches and all.

  • OFWGKTA + MOODY BLUES= SUPERGROUP OF THE CENTURY

  • Respect for theses guys, a group calle OFWGKTA sampled this song.

  • @NaiJorJul thanks for being an OF fan who doesnt come on a song just going OFWGKTA FREE EARL

    u win.

  • swag

  • @lot24runit ???????????

  • THANX GOOD SONG YEAAAHHH!!!

  • VALO 4 LIFE!

  • That's not an orchestra in the background. That's the marvel genius of Mike Pinder on his revamped Mellotrons, which simulates orchestral sounds and much more,. It can be greatly debated about Pinder vs. Justin Hayward being the most integral part of this group, but my vote goes to Pinder. He was the heart and soul with his incredible keyboard. Justin went on to record great music but they lost the heart when Mike left.

  • Reminds me of doin acid.

  • Always reminded me of October, leaves turning and halloween. just does

  • Loved this Band back then,,always thought they were an influence On Pink Floyd? Plus they were the first to use a full Orchestra behind them I believe??

  • this is one of the MOST OBSCURE~WONDERFUL ~AWESOME!!!~songs ever written~!!

  • This song is very amazing! I can relate to this song, because my diary is my life, and the way that he thinks is exactly what I think and feel all the time

  • These guys have been around since 1967. Totally underrated an unappreciated. Not even recognized by the Rock n Roll Hall OF Fame. What a joke that is! These guys are awesome, so much deeper than just Nights in White Satin and Tuesday Afternoon alone.

  • I love this tune!

  • What happened to our culture? Now philosophy is cast aside not even for materialism, but for anger and sadism. There's little beauty, much anger, violence and vengeance

  • It was such a different time to listen to a record and just look at the album cover as you listened. I think it made me reflect more on the music. Video really did kill the radio star and they runied the magic of this kind of music as well.

  • many a GREAT trip with the Moody Blues....thank you! ♥

  • this is a little scary to me

  • if America liked and album....England didn't and vice versa but the album that this song was on REFUTED all of that!!!! ON THE THRESHOLD OF A DREAM!!!! GET IT ON VINYL!!!

  • Love this song!! Such a mesmerizing sound. Almost hipnotizing!! The Moodies are truly a phenomenal band of all time!! Such beauty and real emotion and feeling in their songs!! Their music has truly impacted my life. They have touched the souls of many through the years and still to this day!! Pure brilliance! The Moodies forever my friends!! ♥

  • Somebody exploded an H bomb today, Otherwise a nice day...?!!! Nothings changed

  • Free The Robots

  • Masta Ace sampled this in his song "Dear Diary" Incredible Hip-Hop. I wish the 90's were back for Hip-Hop. Mainstream is garbage and no one has substance nowadays. Hip-Hop I will forever miss you <3

  • Musical Brilliance....'nuff said

  • Does anybody know if "Moondog - Stamping ground" (search youtube) is in any way influenced by "Dear Diary" or the other way around?

Both compositions seem to stem from 1969 and sound earily alike...

  • Somebody exploded an "H" Bomb today, but it wan't anyone I knew!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @DJfox69 Love that line at the end...just before "send me no wine" kicks in..

  • They did excellent versions of this truly Moody song in their concerts

  • anothe ray thomas masterful composition- ray and mike were very important to the band- they carried on without mike but without ray, they lost so much vocal power. john cannot sing very well at all which leaves guitar and vocals for justin.

this is evidenced by 'one more time to live' with mike and ray adding vocal power, a great song, but performed today, is merely a caricature of what once was.

dear diary very jazzy moody song- one of their best.

  • dear diary what a day its been, its been just like a dream, woke up to late, wasn't where I should have been. for goodness sake what happening to me write lightly yours truly dear diary it was cold outside of my door so many people by the score rushing around so senselessly they don;t notice there's people like me write lightly yours truly dear diary they don't know what they're playing they've no way of knowing what the game is till they carry on doing what they can
  • nice quality..

  • I used to have a lot of Moody Blues on an 8-track set called: "This is the Moody Blues" (1974 Threshold Records, Ltd.). It was 85 to 93 minutes of really great music. Dear Diary is one of my favorites.

Now I'm going to look for "Melancholy Man."

Thanks for the upload ESaetre ! d:)

  • @EagleMedieval That same 8-track collection was my introduction to The Moody Blues - what an introduction, right?

  • @misterdakman Yeah, that's a great collection of songs.

  • Justin Hayward sure has some skinny legs in this picture!!!

  • They created a musical landscape. We can still live there, it's better than so many since.

  • No other song sounds like this--truly original and beautiful..

  • I am mostly a rock and roller, but these guys and Chicago really expanded my music spectrum.

Really great songs. this was a minor hit that I really liked back then!

  • @mikeUNC1 two best bands ever imo and i AM a rocker. these guys are rock, no? what other classification would you give them? It's just a different type of rock.

  • @kimberkley

Kind of an evolution with psychedelic pop infuence. More "airy" than Chicago and the use of instruments created a unique sound that is hard to imitate! imo.

  • Masta ace - dear diary

    Nice sample !

  • moody blues are pure genius. they are my religion and god, and are the most touching band i have ever heard. they definately know how to set a mood.

  • I was a child when my dad would listen to this on the record player, with my face pressed against the window looking at the nighttime rain's interplay with the streetlights. I dont know how to descibe what I feel when I hear this other then: Absolute confidence

  • @Jookkor I know exactly where you're coming from. Music remind me of who I was, and am...all my fondest memories appear when I hear a certain song

  • @Jookkor

What a lovely memory. Not everyone has good memories to look back on. It's nice when those who do have them share them.

  • @Jookkor That's a beautiful thought.

  • @Jookkor lolfag

  • Lady who, she could handle a tad of this BLUE thang.

  • great music.

    sucks that now everybody

is listening to lady gaga and shit.

  • @NatashaLaine Exactly!

  • I listened to this song a hundred times and I never noticed the H-bomb line before! Michael Iceberg did a very good cover version of this song at Disneyworld for many years.

  • 3:54 "Somebody exploded an H-bomb today, really wasn't anybody I knew."

  • Brilliant ! Ray Thomas has a great voice, and this song is inspirational .

  • Kings of the Mellotron!

  • magnificent moodies, they`re was created the music that cast a spell on you. they living with no time,no place,no space. They are in everywhere. music

  • My favorite moody blues song by far!

  • Beautifully mysterious piece. Great picture. Take me back to those days!

  • "Somebody exploded an H-bomb today, but it wasn't anybody I knew."

  • Excellent!! Excellent

  • This jam kicks ass!

  • 1970- in the 8th grade and listening to the MBs almost exclusively, love em.

  • real music by real musicians.

  • i just sameple that song i i have a 2008 remix to it. i will be singing it through autotune.

  • Then it will be some unknown Shit Hop losers bread winning cut for 1 week!

  • I over posted a letter today! I hate when that happens.

  • These guys and Pink Floyd don't receive enough credit for thier influence on music.

  • @mellowmark1

Nothin against Pink Floyd, but I think the Moody Blues were totally underrated, or relatively unnoticed- there was a LOT of excellent music in the 60's and 70's- and what beautiful music they made. We who know, know.

  • @Finko00

Seen PinK Floyd twice and I think you're right. I always thought that floyd were kinda like them but thats just my stupid opinion

  • @berrypickers no...it's okay...you can compare them to the floyd but they are more like a mellow Deep Purple...get it?

  • @berrypickers i friend i know snuck a tape recorder into a traffic concert winwood did a long organ solo that sounded like pink floyd then gimme some lovin as an encore floyd the moody blues and procol harum all dabbled in psychedelic music with pseudo classical overtones

  • @mellowmark1 pink floyd does, i think. but these guys are definitely underrated

  • @mellowmark1 Pink Floyd? thats one of the most recognizable names in pretty much every one in the worlds brain when it comes to music.. old people.. children... wow the floyd must be really really cool for you if you think they are obscure... but i agree with the moddy blues statement,

  • @artistguy7

I never said they were obscure, I said they don't get nearly enough credit for their influence on music, which is true.

  • @mellowmark1 Who doesnt give pink floyd enough credit for their music?? justin bieber fans?

  • @artistguy7

You would be surprised how many people don't even know who they are, let alone the influence they had.

  • @mellowmark1 no i really wouldnt but cmon really? ask 1000 of concert performers today if they know who pink floyd or the moodey blues are.. my bet is at least half know floyd, zeppelin, the moody blues... its just great world music man..... ask ravi shankar if he knows who the moody blues are... hmmm or pink floyd, or the beatles... hmm?? i rest my case

  • @mellowmark1

    agreed!

  • @mellowmark1 There is a lot of ignorance in the world.. But i am not concerned with them... Any one who knows any thing about music, should know the floyd...The Moody's slightly more obscure.. But who cares?? we found them, and that is alll that matters.

  • @mellowmark1 that post sent me tears of joy really

  • I used to listen to this entire album constantly back in 1970 when I was six years old. That picture was so cool to me, especially Justin Hayward. I hope these guys never retire and perhaps the original members will even reunite one more time for the fans who have stayed with them over the years!

  • I concur the staches are phenomenal!!!

  • This was always my favourite photo of the MBs. Nice call! :)

  • Gotta admit this is one of my fav's--just so weird specially the part of "Somebody exploded an H bomb today--Hope it wasn't anybody I knew"...KUDOS!

  • Ray Thomas always had a wacky sense of humor.

  • wicked song but i would expect no less from a band with swell 'staches

  • The boys look so cool in their '60's London garb, drizzly weather, coolest hair.

Always have captivated me as the great message and mystic definition of my youth. Thank you.
