Genesis 18 is EXACTLY in concert with what Christians believe about God and Jesus. In Genesis 18, God became a man and even ate and drank. It is the Jews who are willfully ignorant of this, even saying that we are "Gnostics" because we believe God took on human form. It has nothing to do with our interpretation, it is a simple and honest reading of the text. God became a man, the end
the two at His side were angels, yes, and He brought them to prepare Lot and his family for escape from the doomed city. I don't see how one could derive that they were there for dramatic purposes, but so be it.
@apologeticsman oh, sorry if I was unclear. I meant that he sent them to see how things were in Sodom, if they were as bad as he had heard. In my mind, it would not be necessary for an omnipresent omniscient being. That's why I guessed that he did it for dramatic purposes.
Tell me, do you have a simple and honest reading of the entire bible, or just the parts that seem nice?
I have been a student and seeker in it for 22 years, and I always do so honestly. It is a mystery why the Bible words this verse the way it does, all I can say is that any supernatural being, whether God or angel would already know what was happening in Sodom, so perhaps it was just a way to show people that God was being fair with the Sodomites by personally attending their destruction. Hebrew is a funny language, so it may well be worded differently in Hebrew
There is also a passage in the Bible that says something like "these 6 things God hates, yay, and seven are an abomination to Him..."m(not exact quote) and that always struck me as a bit odd, but given the MANY things that make sense and do go together, my rational center can handle a few things that do not seem to fit or make sense.
@apologeticsman you're referring to Proverbs 6:16. If you are content with thinking that things that we don't understand is a mystery, belief comes easy. Actually being able to explain how God can save us from himself by sacrificing himself to himself takes would impress me. I'm not trying to insult your belief, but basically that is what the gospel is about, isn't it? Unless one think that Christianity is polytheistic.
@apologeticsman HAHAHAHA what a joke Why couldn`t he write a bible understandable by all without any translation or interpretation ? He could have avoided 35.000 different christian denominations, but he wasn`t THAT smart now, was he ?

@apologeticsman I see, did he lose his omnipresence when that happened?
TheLittleDonkey 1 year ago
of course not, God is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent, and has no boundaries that can limit Him or His power.

@apologeticsman I see, so he sent his angels to go look for dramatic purposes then.
