I remember watching this when it was first on (sometime in about 15 BC). I used to listen to a lot of rubbish then... but this is still as fresh and exciting as ever!
I loved this song, Don't forget there was no internet then just what you listened to and what was shown on TOTP ( top of the pops ) still love ska to this day :)
roll on october when i will see the specials for the 2nd time in over 30yr i was 15 the first time 47 this time and i will still dance all fuckin night!!!
Wwooowwwwwww, absolutely great, this version of 'Gangsters' ... I always love the 'restart', here from 02.31 with the special horn blowing by the late great Rico Rodriguez and Dick Cuthell.. :-)
come on, man. don't look at the color of the skin. focus on the unity of every human race on earth. that's what most people involved with ska believe.
Saw the Specials on Sunday in Auckland....they are amazing! it is awesome that so many people were there and that even people in the seated area (me included) were all dancing in the trad mod way :D
i no exactly how you feel. bugs me that no one has heard of the specials. they are clearly one of the best bands known to mankind and the lyrics are always relevent.x
this band allways seems happy i saw gary moore in april all he did all night was tell the fans to fuck off . these bands need to be right with there fans we made em they owe us
Does anyone know which Specials album they have this version of Gangsters on? Where they incorporate bits right from Prince Buster's "Al Capone" (like spelling C-A-P-O-N-E). I had a cassette of it once but lost it!
Terry Hall...what a voice,what a band,what an era. The 80's were great..... Seen The Specials twice..Madness three times..and Bad Manners Twice,NEVER disappointed!!!
anyone else notice no matter what they sing live, it sound's exactly the same as there recording's, how many band's around now pull this off......................hardly any................fantastic band forever
Just because it won't be like the old days does not mean that it won't be fucking brilliant nowadays, BadManners are still spot on, Terry and the Specials will be too.
Personally...... I think it's great...... How many 2tone fans missed out on seeing them live.......... I'd rather see The Specials with Terry than listen to the shit without.......NB11
I agree MOONSTOMP, It will not be anything like the gigs they did in late 70s early 80s. Madness, Selecter, Bad Manners , Beat etc are all doing it, i thought Specials had more sense! Aparently not.
I cant belive The Specials are gettin back together to embarass themselves next year. I am fuckin gutted about this, they were the best band ever in thier time, they should be rememberd as they were, and whats this about Jerry not playin? You can not have The Specials without Jerry Dammers. This is so sad.
From what I've read, the only person who thinks that Bernie Rhodes invented punk is Bernie Rhodes !! But he was one of the ones involved with the start of punk in the UK.
AA AA AA AA AA AA SKA , Best band inn the world, The Specials, Hope to god they never reform, would be embarassin, THE SPECIALS should be rememberd as they were.
"The intro to the Specials song Gangsters, Bernie Rhodes knows don't argue, was a reference to him getting their guitars and equipment back after they were confiscated by a hotel in Paris (even though the band had done nothing wrong)."
I have visions of a big ballyhoo in that hotel lobby, and somebody shouting BERNIE RHODES KNOWS DON'T ARGUE !!
The Specials were, without a doubt, kings of English ska, not dissing the others but these guys were head and shoulders above the rest, IMHO of course.
Love the rude boys; the original 'rude boys' were the 'Teds' who in the mid-50's were lower class youth who took to wearing flash "Edwardian" clothes in stodgy postwar Britain an pissing off the authority. John Lennon was a Ted for a time
forget the Teds! they used to beat up punks and rude boys as they emerged in the mid 70s.
Saint Joe Strummer once dressed up as a Ted to watch a rockabilly show in London but was discovered and was beaten up...tells a lot of the "brainy" Teds.....
Never said I "liked" the Teds (and God knows why Strummer would do that) it's just I thought the rude boys made up the idea of mocking the upper class, but friggin Teds had the idea first (rather have Rude boys #1!!!)
youth culture was great in them days. now sadly there is none. too much american influence ,that is why they wear stupid hoods and carry knives. There was lots of voilence in this erra, but on the whole there was a code of conduct. today anything goes. i want it and i want it now.
The midlands were kicking it at this time. I remember them coming into my mums shop in Leicester to buy clothes for the relese of this their first song to filmed on top of the pops. They are still friends of my mum.
Para los Espanoles que les gustan Ska no tiene nada que ver con racismo entonces dejar de paliar imigrantes en tu pais.
the lead singers voice is irritating are u soo fucking thick mind u can someone tell me why terry hall left the specials for fun boy three great singer but what a dick still great singer
Terry Hall's very unique voice makes him stand out. Jerry Dammers was impressed with his voice when he was the lead singer for a local punk band in Coventry called Squad when he was just 17 years old!
