I see this in my country, and I'm SWEDISH. What I want to emphasize with those letters is that Sweden has some of the toughest laws on animal care in the world, maybe even the toughest. The enforcement of these laws is non-existent, and the punishments light.
Not only are cattle raised as food, they were "designed" for that purpose (and as draft animals) in the first place by humans. Cows are a human invention, cross-breeding etc. Full score there. But which planet do you live on if you think our slaughter of these animals is humane? Sure there are laws, but there are laws about not beating your kid as well, and look how well that went. I'm not very familiar with the whaling in Japan, so I can't really comment on that. I have seen "The Cove" but I would like to see an objective view on the matter before I make up my mind.

I will defer my opinion about the Japanese whaling. There are many factors that pro and anti whaling people would discuss, but I personally believe the crucial point is that whales are not like normal livestock; over-whaling will lead the species to extinction.

Actually that's incorrect. Based on humane laws, slaughter houses and other areas that uses animals as products, the animals must be treated humanely. Although some slaughter houses try to curtail and hide their misdeamenors, many organizations constantly protest and try to expose the inhumane treatment of animals in said facilities. Coupled with government inspections the West treats their animals much better than Japan.

How can you say the West does not slaughter animals humanely when the governments keep a firm and measured hand in punishing any violation that is called upon their attention? Humane Laws are also in place for the public's health, not just for the animals. Has Japan cleaned up the foot and mouth disease epidemic yet?

Regardless of whether the hunting of large aquatic mammals are a part of Japanese tradition or not, why would anyone in their right mind want to eat meat that have high levels of chemical toxicity? The issue should be the livelihood of the Japanese public, not their freedom to exercise their traditions.

I think I'm totally biased in looking at issues happening in Japan since I grew up there, but even I think PropagandaBuster is BIASED beyond necessity.
I will defer my opinion about the Japanese whaling. There are many factors that pro and anti whaling people would discuss, but I personally believe the crucial point is that whales are not like normal livestock; over-whaling will lead the species to extinction.
If we can domesticate whales (extremely difficult), some problems will be solved.

Although some slaughter houses try to curtail and hide their misdeamenors, many organizations constantly protest and try to expose the inhumane treatment of animals in said facilities. Coupled with government inspections the West treats their animals much better than Japan.

@donttalksaywok I think you should. It's a known fact that many slaughterhouses in the West are actually FINED and sometimes closed down for violating humane laws. How can you say the West does not slaughter animals humanely when the governments keep a firm and measured hand in punishing any violation that is called upon their attention? Humane Laws are also in place for the public's health, not just for the animals. Has Japan cleaned up the foot and mouth disease epidemic yet?

I think the fact that the American Government actually made Humane Laws and actually bothers to enforce them says alot. I wish people would stop using arguments to emotion to protest dolphin slaughter.
Here in Japan, the media focuses on this and says it is the same as many people in India who consider the cow to be sacred yet we still slaughter cows. Every time I hear that dolphins are "beautiful intelligent creatures" I cringe.
A better tactic would be to say "dolphins are ugly smelly creatures, but scientists tell us that we should stop killing them."

Actually in US history the books cited that America dropped two nuclear bombs on Japan, they didn't avert from the truth nor did they demonize the Japanese. There was mention of the Bataan Death March, but aside from that nothing much else about the Japanese. I only found out of Japan's HORRIFIC war crimes from looking at online sources. Such as unit 731, Nanjing Massacre, cannibalism against POWs, comfort women.
Tell me, do ANY Japanese history books covers those topics?

But, some teachers might interpret and teach the story subjectively that Japan was evil country. So, yes, in some part, Japanese students are taught the distorted western biased history which is made by GHQ in order not to induce wars and for peace.

For starters the US government doesn't have a say in what goes into the books or which books are chosen. Something different from the Japanese history books. Look at the other aggressor in WWII.. And Japan wasn't really brutal in the imperial era if it's compared to the colonization by Western countries. Japan even modernized Korea and Taiwan and made trains though it was an invasion for Korean and Taiwanese people. Japan is regarded as brutal country because of losing war and the attacking of Pearl Harbour.

Some also think they want to keep the tradition and fight against irrational western biased trading rules and strategies that regulate to acquire marine resources and make Japan buy beef, pork and Chicken from Australia and from the U.S. It's one of the reasons the Japanese wants to keep whaling because if they allow to quit whaling then next target to ban is hunting tuna with some reasons.

That's another thing, you fuckers need to learn to set up fish farms for tuna. It's not uncommon for Japanese fishermen to illegally fish tuna well beyond their yearly quotas. Thankfully it looks like there will be a restrictive measure put out on tuna fishing soon. In just TEN years, SIXTY PERCENT of tuna was wiped out. Japan consumes EIGHTY PERCENT of tuna. For fuck sakes, SURELY you can see that's a MAJOR problem. Time for tuna prices to rise :) Won't effect me, I don't like sashimi

And of course illegal fishermen should be punished. But, I say it's not right to put pressure to Japan with making the film gaining over ignorant animal protectors as a diplomatic strategy and eventually restrict fishing tuna of Japan in order to export beef to Japan. It's all based on Western values.

Japan is a populous and rich country, SURELY their able to find other sources of fish to eat. If Japan wants to continue eating tuna at such a feverish pace they MUST set up some kind of huge pen for the fishes to breed/live. Although I'm no marine biologist, this sounds plausible. Either that, or like so many suggested abstain from eating tuna for a few years to let the population replenish. Though I'm sure many conservative Japanese like you would be furious at the mere suggestion.

You may count the dolphins and count the cows on this planet, then you´ll know why Dolphins need protection. You may also count the wild buffaloes and compare to the number of cows. Regardless of whether the hunting of large aquatic mammals are a part of Japanese tradition or not, why would anyone in their right mind want to eat meat that have high levels of chemical toxicity? The issue should be the livelihood of the Japanese public, not their freedom to exercise their traditions.

Hmm, getting free fish, not having to worry about predators, getting medical care when you're sick, doesn't sound like living in an aquarium is such a bad deal to me. Do I like to see dolphins suffering? No of course not, but that doesn't mean I have anymore of a right to tell someone from Japan they don't have a right to eat them that a Hindu from India has the right to tell me to stop eatting beef.
