Kurt liked the Vaselines... but I don't think he wouldn't have been famous if he hadn't. And the reason he made a band were the Melvins, not the Vaselines, not the Sex Pistols.
@thepieman2000 listen to the bass, that's the guitar right there.. bring the drums a little bit louder..rid of the clown horn.. get rid of the guitar.. bring the bass back in..but..louder.. and WHALLA! 1 amazing cover :)
@jesuscat29 Fuck Nirvana? I'm sure you have strong reasons to say so, but I know that I have even stronger reasons to tell you to go fuck yourself. Even though I doubt it that there's a single person in this universe that would want to fuck you.

@afakkdas Kurt wrote many things as well. And people would always be amazed at what he could come up with on his own...even when he was simply messin around playin. Yes, he covered a good many songs. Apparently the songs he covered needed it. I would have been hard pressed to find them otherwise. Props to him for the shout outs i say. garage cover band. b.s lol
If it wasn't for the Melvins then Nirvana wouldn't exist, however, in comparison, the Vaselines had very little bearing on Kurt Cobain outside of him being a fan. /watch?v=Uhf5RvbBVro&feature=related
i like this version more because the "joke" is that the music sounds sweet but the lyrics are a bit dirty. the nirvana cover is a great tribute, but lacks the sweet side.
oy. I can't listen to a Marine Girls, Raincoats or Vaselines song without hearing something about Nirvana. It gets old after a while you guys. Open your minds beyond what Cobain liked, listen to music!
@macklemoreosis Though I agree it's a bit tiring, give the guy credit, he knew what was good, and you don't just randomly find good music. You have to start somewhere.
Actually long before Cobain promoted them, they were selling. Their first 2 albums hit high in the indie charts in the UK. I think their 2nd album even hit the top ten in 1988.
Nirvana and the vaselines are both good and we can appreciate both of them so fuck all you haters in favor of one band or the other! Can't we appreciate both?
Just read the book. Our band could be your life. It explains why Nirvana got so big begin 90's. It's a great book and funny as hell, especially the Butthole Surfers chapter.
@Kyrzak12 lol I'm so stupid... XD I speak french and it's also called the same but I didn't get that we could say that joke in english too hahaha I tought you meant that she singed it very often XD Yeah it's funny !
Nirvana covered it for a reason, they liked and respected the song. I personally don't care for Nirvana's cover, but it's cool that they saw a song that was great and translated it for a different taste.
@GlutenFreeBread Kurt had a soft side (if u didnt noticed) he wrote about a girl, but he was scared about it because it wasnt hard enough for Grunge, but he liked them because the lyrics touched him
@GlutenFreeBread Obviously I didnt know Kurt and cant say why he liked them, but from the biographies I read, its pretty clear that Kurt made a point of liking obscure non-mainstream bands. If the Vaselines were hugely successful, he probably would have liked another obscure band instead. Also, as a drug addict, maybe he also saw something beautiful with the lyrics ("she said she'd take me anywhere if I stay clean"). I don't know, just a thought.
you guys are absolutely insane if you think nirvana wouldnt have existed without the vaselines. Kurt was obviously a big fan and greatly admired the band, but to say he never would have picked up a guitar and played music if he didnt come aross the vaselines is incredibly ignorant and ridiculous. The vaselines wrote some great songs, and Kurt was a big fan, but you're giving them WAY too much credit for nirvana's creation.
@313angels313 Ummm... no, there probably would've been a Nirvana. They might've sounded a little different, but it's not like the Vaselines were their only influence.
that seems like a bit of an overstatement. I really think that Nirvana achieved the bulk of their success on their own talents. I do agree that without The Vaselines Nirvana would not be the same- especially Incestiside.
But overall you have to be greatful, because ultimately Nirvana turned some attention over to The Vaselines. I mean, I know I wouldn't have found them if it wasn't for Nirvana.
@313angels313 I hope that's a joke! the only reaon I ever knew who they were was because of Nirvana. Nirvana rocks! This sounds like some bs from the 60's
bullshit , its the other way around , Nirvana could have made it anyhow , these twats have sold right out and sound like a kids show type of act ,, fuck em ,,
@313angels313 without nirvana the vaselines would of never been as popular as they are. and yes there proberbly would because it wasnt kurt's only inspiration ( musically )
While I believe Nirvana would have existed without The Vaselines, I think they would have sounded slightly deferent. Kurt Cobain had many influences The Vaselines (of course), Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Pixies, The Meat Puppets, and The Beatles.
@313angels313 The Vaselines, as great as they are, didn't influence Nirvana that much. Kurt Cobain was a huge fan of their music, stating once that "The Vaselines are my favorite songwriters in the world." I'd say The Pixies were a much bigger influence on Nirvana's songwriting. Of course, this not taking ANYTHING away from the musical prowess of The Vaselines. I'm certainly a fan of theirs.
