Bush? I'm pretty sure the Dems took over the house during Bush's presidency. They're both to blame. And Obama?? What the hell is it that you believe in?
@TheOtherView Canada, Britain, France, Spain, Norway, Australia, Germany, they all have single payer and they're doing a hell of a lot better then the U.S. Right now we rank 37th in the world with those countries above us. Single Payer is just medicare for all. ask an elderly person what they think of medicare. most will tell you it's pretty damn good.
1. "hey're doing a hell of a lot better then the U.S." Why do you conclude it's the health care system? Those countries are different in many ways.
2. The elderly love it but who's going to pay for all of it? Second, we have always developed top notch doctors, however, when they make much less the smart ones will go into finance rather than medicine, it's actually happening already.
1. he was talking about health care specifically in which case we (canada) rank higher than you
2. because the elderly have never had to pay taxes, not to mention as a tax paying canadian my taxes are only marginally higher than what I would pay in the US because we dont fight pointless wars.
1. HE was talking about it. But you didn't answer my question. Why is yoru conclusion that it's the health care system only that is the reason for health issues. In other words, poverty, demographics, size of country also need to be accounted for.
2. Not sure what you'e saying, Anyway you didn't address my point about producing doctirs. Also, we defend you and so you don't need to pay for a military so be thankful (I agree the US gets involved in stuff that they shouldn't)
@TheOtherView If you agree that our society is superior to yours in many ways then feel free to copy all our ideas not just our healthcare, we wont mind
the basic fact is that doctors want to treat people, and when they need permission from an HMO to do so they are less effective, and you are not defending us by invading middle-east countries and in the process CREATING terrorists
When did I agree that your society is superior. Hmmm I would like to copy your ethnic demographic makeup. Or you could have our more diverse makeup. How bout that?
@TheOtherView you said that other factors like demographics, poverty, and size of country may be superior to yours, and if you are suggesting that increased immigrant populations, of which canada has no shortage, has a negative effect on public health then I will cease this conversation as I do not make a habit of arguing with racists
It's not a question of superior, it's a question of factors that need to be considering when determining an effective health care system. Yes, I understand that you have immigrants but we have African Americans who are still stuck in the inner cities having tons of kids and no father. Liberals always crack me up. As soon as you talk about race, they become defensive and call you a racist and the conversation ends.
1. In the United States we spend 16% of GDP on Healthcare, no other country spends near that. However i would agree that those countries are different than the U.S. in many ways. And #2 The elderly love it because it provides the coverage they need and it's paid for because they paid into it their whole lives. Social Security is completely solvent until 2037 and 76% solvent until 2087, keep in mind the social security tax is only applied to the first $160,000 of a persons income. Raise that to 250,000 for example and you fixed that problem entirely. And single payer limits a doctors pay how exactly? The majority of doctors say they would rather work under

He is good at politics but Clinton had a similar question form an audience member and his charisma was oozing out...he has more charisma than Obama who comes across as cautious and logical who knows how to go through the motions of empathy through stagecraft. Clinton is Kirk and Obama is Picard. Sorry for the Star Trek analogy.
People from france, canada, and england come here when their system tells them that a surgery is optional and that you have to wait 3 years. "optional" surgery could be something like a herniated disk. Sure it won't kill you but you might be in excruciating pain. Another thing about those countries is they are slowly realizing that the cost is unsustainable.
I don't know enough about Germany's system but I do know its not what they are offering cause Germany's is regional instead of centralized. I do know that in England they leave people in the ambulances. This is because wait times were so long that the government said you must get treatment within a certain time of arriving at the hospital. The doctors couldn't accommodate this so the patients wait outside the hospital as a loophole.
WhhaaaaT ??? U do know that in England they leave ppl in the ambulances......! Yeh rright, I lived i both London in the 90's and Virginia until 08,i went to the emergency at Hammersmith hospital and in Virginia the Reston and Manassas Hospitals, my experince tells me Hammersmith was the most efficient in terms of time spent and care given. In virginia i waited at least 3 to 6 hrs on both my visits and this was for my kids. I was in and out of Hammersmith in an hr. "Live it before you tell it"
Because you can't post links here for some dumb reason goto google and search for "england leaves people in ambulances wait times." Look at the third link with the article dated 2009.
Honestly besides the cost what is wrong with our health care. We don't need to rebuild a system that isn't broke. People come from these countries your praising to here all the time for care. We should be looking to solve the cost problem not rebuild the wheel. Also in the current system you do have choice. If you don't like what one doctor or company says you can switch. private competition will be stomped out by regulations that no insurance company can stay afloat on.
Also look up hyperinflation. Its not like we have any money to do this. we are going to print it. That does believe it or not have consequences. California alone has a 58 billion dollar state deficit and the federal government without health care is at 1.3 trillion and rising. Bush was an idiot and tried to fight wars and lower taxes however that only made a 500 billion dollar deficit. The CBO projects a 2 trillion dollar deficit if the economy does well with no health care.
A/P story -Obama pitches healthcare- July 1st. It talks about the questions...this was ridiculous...did he acknowledge that questions were preselected?
And that this woman worked for him during the campaign and that another of the question was from a union that wants the bill passed. How are unions different from lobbyist?
This is the Townhall meeting that Chip Reid, Helen Thomas had a problem with
See youtube Chip Ried, Helen Thomas, Gibbs
the questions at this Annandale Townhall were preselected...and although, Debbie Smith IS really genuinely sick she works for an organization that works for Obama.
I'm Canadian living in the U.S and your system of healthcare baffles me. It would be unconscionable to deny people like this poor woman care in Canada. And, no, we don't have these ridiculous wait times in Canada for needed care as the republicans would have you believe. It's not true. My brother and father are both sick and get excellent care. Non emergency tests I needed were done within 2 week. I got sick here and had to wait 3 weeks for my insurance to approve tests and waited in agony.
They really have no argument against giving health care to people who need it. They can't have one because letting people die is simply wrong. The only thing they can do is launch a campaign of lies to scare people. Now it's down to the wire and they're grasping at straws trying desperately to keep the status quo.
First of all, u dont scare me with your random attack at me assuming that I am not pro life. Secondly, I would probably be a greedy asshole just like u if it wasn't for the fact that I had been diagnosed with a kidney disease about 3 years ago that could have been prevented if it wasn't for the fact that I couldn't afford health insurance at that time. I was a struggling student putting MYSELF through college so dont tell me that I dont deserve heath insurance. People need more then just clinics
I'm Republican and even I know health care should be an assumed service like food and housing. This is supposed to be the greatest country in the world and we are one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Everyone in this country should have:
you need to have a single payer system and eliminate insurance companies all together, if you only have a public "option" it will only benefit the poor, then the rich and by extension the powerful will have no interest in sustaining it, and it will fail. Only when your health care system treats everyone equally will it work,
What needs to happen is health care needs to be affordable for even someone who works at McDonalds. Fifty dollars a month. That means doctors and hospitals need to cut there cost's at least in half. This makes it so everybody can afford it..

This "Poor Lady" is employed by the Democratic National Commitee. It's just another set-up by the Obama Machine to make Barry look good. It's all FAKE!!!
Yea what the hell give it a shot it's only going to cost a couple trillion to try it. No big dill if it doesn't work .How dumb are you? Obama plan does not cover everyone and has a 1000.00 dollar fine for not having insurance.
How can you Americans stand such an evil system? Health insurance that bleeds you dry, then refuses to provide the service you payed for. I don't know if the real American oposition to universal healthcare is beauracracy, but it if it is, you guys couldn't be further from the truth. I'm on the NHS, and I must say, I've never had to wait long and I certainly have never been refused service.
Also Cenk is right, universal healthcare is much cheaper.
I LOVE CANADA!!! I LOVE CANADA!!! I LOVE CANADA!!! I LOVE CANADA!!! I LOVE CANADA!!! I LOVE CANADA!!! I LOVE CANADA!!! I LOVE CANADA!!! I LOVE CANADA!!! I LOVE CANADA!!! I LOVE CANADA!!! I LOVE CANADA!!! I LOVE CANADA!!! Free healthcare baby
1. americans pay taxes too... except for some reason they are ok with giving it away to corporate pigs
2. i'm ok with paying taxes because i know its for the good of the general public... even if the tax was 80% .. i'd pay it..given that the government provide food and shelter for me and every other man living in Canada until poverty is no more
I took that figure from the post above. Also your not factoring in ALL the taxes, remembering many European countries have a VAT above 20%. And please, don't call it "free" health care.
"How can you Americans stand such an evil system?"We have this thing called the republican party, which has tens of millions of followers who follow its every idea blindly,as it happens the republican party finds this system profitable for its leaders,so they have an incentive to convince their sheep followers to fuck themselves in the ass by supporting the broken system.
The biggest scam, those that are trying to pass universal healthcare will never use it. They say it is perfect and yet they have their own gold-standard healthcare to use. Bottom line, if it is so good, why don't they stop their gold-standard healthcare and put themselves on the same healthcare that they want us to have?? That is for both republicans and democrats, when that happens they I will start believing it is a good deal for us all.
She was a political hack, nothing more. The White House gave her a ticket and knew exactly what she was going to say. Bottom line, any idiot can sound smart when they are given the questions ahead of time. All questions have been required to be submitted 24 hours in advance via the internet and then only those selected can ask - that is not a town meeting but a pre-selected infomercial. When is the public going to demand the journalists ask the real questions instead of this crap??
The average cost per person for one year of health care in the US is appx. $7200. In the countries that have universal coverage, it's appx. $3000 per person. If we even cut the cost down to $5000 per person, the country would save approximately $600 billion dollars.
We pay that money regardless of whether it's paid through taxes, insurance premiums, direct payments to providers, etc. The US cannot afford NOT to act.
careful! if you keep saying "liberal" like that - all tense and whatnot - you're gonna need a gallon of fake oxyclean to wipe all that "fake outrage" off your monitor! 8D just calm down, chicken little, and expand your horizons a tad! you'd find that free health care WORKS for nearly every sophisticated nation out there. skittish about costs, eh? let's start by recouping our fair share from the special interest lobbyists. they're not doing us any good, anyway, so wtf do THEY need a salary for?
Fear does not equal respect it equals hatred. God forbid that we have a president of, for and by the people. We should have that lying skunk bush and cheney sending our children to war for a lie that they made up to make money for themselves. I respect a man who is ever so humble, empathetic so for the american people. Didn't hear you saying one word when they blew all our money on an insane war. Fear you need some religion counseling drugs something.
I totally agree, but I honestly believe the Refubbs in America would rather people like her die and go away!~ Rich in America could careless the least of them, especially refubbs. They have the nerves to say they are christ like!~
Yeah. "Praise The Lord"...."Family Values", and let me cheat on my wife, screw the 19 year old male staffer, make hateful comments about everyone who's not conservative, and I'll be on my way to heaven"
Yeh Christ like if he had been one of the merchants in the temple. That is the one time Christ lost it. Told those money changing Republicans (at least they sounded like they were republicans) to get out.
Yeah, the Bush administration raised the art of the set-up question to high art, though it was usually used with the press secretary instead of the President. Kennedy messed around with this sort of thing a little, but it was the Reagan administration that started to use it as a standard rhetorical tool. Since then, every Presidents PR types have made sizable use of it.
In Britain we pay a small % of our wages for our healthcare system which covers everything that can go wrong with you. Our govt waives our tuition fees, which means people from poor backgrounds can get an education and pay back the costs when they can afford it. I love the U.S but i wouldnt choose anywhere else to live than Great Britain!
Send Debbie to the money tree. She can pick several one hundred dollar bills from the money tree. I am suprised the hug from the god like Obama did not cure her ills. Its sad when amoral politicians take advantage of sick people and play on the boobs emotions to get their programs passed.PUKE!!!!!!
SERIOUSLY...what is wrong with everyone having health insurance? Doesn't everyone have the same right to live? This is f-ing america people!!! Even with health insurance, you get $300 ambulance bills (sorry I'm bitter).
We americans need to stand up against this and stop taking it up the ass. How many more people need to die from lack of health care before we make it clear to washington that we are not going to take this shit anymore!!!
The truth is the average American has not made much more money in the last 10 years as the wealthy. Any time they are ASKED to pay they're fair share it's communistic. We have not made vast sums of money ,wages have not increased. It would be nice to work without having to worry about getting sick and not being able to afford to get sick. Now your a communist! WHO IS BEING PLAYED HERE! HOW MANY CARS OR HOMES DO YOU HAVE. This is the greatest country if your RICH ,NOT MIDDLE CLASS.
Yeah the Republicans got cheated during the election... hmm donottake where were you on 2004 when 350,000 Ohio voters were prevented by republicans from voting? Which would have made Kerry the winner? Where were you on 2000 when Al Gore won the majority of votes and because of a poorly designed ballots in Florida, Republicans stole the elections?
I'm baffled what people in America have against public health care. Here in Canada there is NO bureaucracy what so ever. When I want a blood test I go to the doctor, then go to the lab, do the test, if there's a problem they call, if not then nothing. I don't see a single bill or have to talk to anyone. It's practically like going to the library. In the 12 years I've lived here I never had a single problem with health care (the only thing is I wished it covered dental too.)
Completely agree with you. I also live in Canada and I can not even imagine how some Americans, especially given the current state of the economy, would flat out reject the public option.
Just like you, with the exception of dental, I have never seen a single medical bill in my entire life.
i know 333. Public option is great idea. Everybody deserves the right to live healthy and see a doctor. Why is that evil? I lived in France, I saw the public option. Its the best policy i have seen. My sister has the public option. They would not cover her surgery that reduce her migranes. Her migranes were out of control. She had to go to Peru to get the surgery done. Peru has public option. We are American citizen and Peru citizen too. Private option sucks...
The idea of making money off of sick people is sick. European countries don't have it so bad with they're health plans. Who do you think is shopping over here because the deals are so good. Who are we believing in disgruntled politicians who want to get reelected or our own eyes! Can you afford to fly to Europe to go shopping? Are you like the Chinese buying houses in California ,and New York? Yeah prosperity has really suffered when a country has public health care. NOT!
That was the only question in the clip, wasn't it? And I don't know what 'everyone were put in to" refers to. Everyone who? That was a tough position to put a politician in, and he handled it really well.
I am convinced that the reason 82% of Americans in the poll would choose to live in the US over anywhere else, is that learning a foreign language or another culture would be just too much effort.
Besides, doing so would threaten their natural xenophobia. In fact some would rather even do nothing while others suffer, than get off their stubborn, lazy asses and demand a public system that's fair to everyone, because that's "unAmerican" and, again, too much like work.
Yep, total dick. Listen, if you're that worried about the world being overpopulated in the future, perhaps you could get yourself and maybe your entire family sterilized. On your dime, of course.

we should just get the healthcare canada ...and france has.
freshblooms 2 years ago 3
People from france, canada, and england come here when their system tells them that a surgery is optional and that you have to wait 3 years. "optional" surgery could be something like a herniated disk. Sure it won't kill you but you might be in excruciating pain. Another thing about those countries is they are slowly realizing that the cost is unsustainable.
Secretsofsociety 2 years ago
The UK has had the NHS since 1948, and Germany since the early 30s, how is that unsustainable?
Prometheus3641 2 years ago 2
I don't know enough about Germany's system but I do know its not what they are offering cause Germany's is regional instead of centralized. I do know that in England they leave people in the ambulances. This is because wait times were so long that the government said you must get treatment within a certain time of arriving at the hospital. The doctors couldn't accommodate this so the patients wait outside the hospital as a loophole.
Secretsofsociety 2 years ago

Secretsofsociety 2 years ago
Honestly besides the cost what is wrong with our health care. We don't need to rebuild a system that isn't broke. People come from these countries your praising to here all the time for care. We should be looking to solve the cost problem not rebuild the wheel. Also in the current system you do have choice. If you don't like what one doctor or company says you can switch. private competition will be stomped out by regulations that no insurance company can stay afloat on.
Secretsofsociety 2 years ago
also take in account population.
germany is 82 million people
uk is 61 million people
canada 33 million
USA 307million
And our other gov't programs medicaid and medicare are both bankrupt.
Also look at how good a job the gov't does managing native american reservations and VA hospital.
It is unsustainable.
Secretsofsociety 2 years ago
Also look up hyperinflation. Its not like we have any money to do this. we are going to print it. That does believe it or not have consequences. California alone has a 58 billion dollar state deficit and the federal government without health care is at 1.3 trillion and rising. Bush was an idiot and tried to fight wars and lower taxes however that only made a 500 billion dollar deficit. The CBO projects a 2 trillion dollar deficit if the economy does well with no health care.

StellaisBack 2 years ago 4
They really have no argument against giving health care to people who need it. They can't have one because letting people die is simply wrong. The only thing they can do is launch a campaign of lies to scare people. Now it's down to the wire and they're grasping at straws trying desperately to keep the status quo.

When I told someone that I believe in universal healthcare, he responded with
"Why do you think you deserve healthcare?"
and I thought
"rufkm? thats like saying 'why do you think you deserve to be healthy and happy?'"
Conservative Radio is brainwashing ppl into thinking that the right to life and liberty and freedom to enjoy life is limited to the wealthy elite.
Preventing Universal Health care is UNCONSTITUTIONAL in my book.

A place to live.
Health care.

you need to have a single payer system and eliminate insurance companies all together, if you only have a public "option" it will only benefit the poor, then the rich and by extension the powerful will have no interest in sustaining it, and it will fail. Only when your health care system treats everyone equally will it work,

2. i'm ok with paying taxes because i know its for the good of the general public... even if the tax was 80% .. i'd pay it..given that the government provide food and shelter for me and every other man living in Canada until poverty is no more
waqas202k 2 years ago 3
It's immoral for the government to steal 80% of your income, would bring everyone into poverty.
How can a business survive that tax rate, or maintain customers who have that much reduced of an income?
Unless your an all-out communism, 80% tax rate is approaching complete government control of your money.
In my area, poverty, for the most part, is a choice. Many homeless don't want a job so why do they diverse my money?

The biggest scam, those that are trying to pass universal healthcare will never use it. They say it is perfect and yet they have their own gold-standard healthcare to use. Bottom line, if it is so good, why don't they stop their gold-standard healthcare and put themselves on the same healthcare that they want us to have?? That is for both republicans and democrats, when that happens they I will start believing it is a good deal for us all.

THIS COUNTRY CAN NOT AFFORD THIS PLAN. Will You liberals please wake up or move to Mars.
FearEqualsRespect 2 years ago
The average cost per person for one year of health care in the US is appx. $7200. In the countries that have universal coverage, it's appx. $3000 per person. If we even cut the cost down to $5000 per person, the country would save approximately $600 billion dollars.
We pay that money regardless of whether it's paid through taxes, insurance premiums, direct payments to providers, etc. The US cannot afford NOT to act.
CB563 2 years ago

Since then, every Presidents PR types have made sizable use of it.

What's HMO or PPO?
lacountess 2 years ago 7
@ "lacountess"
Completely agree with you. I also live in Canada and I can not even imagine how some Americans, especially given the current state of the economy, would flat out reject the public option.
Just like you, with the exception of dental, I have never seen a single medical bill in my entire life.
If help is being offered to you, why not take it?
333vonvon 2 years ago
