I really dislike her version it does not sounds true to me, instead plastic, smells money, she haven't been there, it's awful what can I more say..take it away maybe
Married to Phil Spector, who separately worked with the Beatles and solo Beatles around 1970. George Harrison and John Lennon appear on her only Apple single "Try Some Buy Some", which was made with her husband, as an attempt to revive her recording career
One of the most intelligent songs ever written, the disonant chords are superb, the hypnotic music theme is brilliant. Both versions by George & Ronnie are equally marvelous. You have to take your time and learn to appreciate such brilliance!
Anyone that doesn't think that George Martin is a fantastic composer, arranger and collaborator needs to look deeper into how the songs of the Beatles were created. George Martin didn't just sit behind a mixing desk, turn knobs and occasionally yell out, "Great one, lads! On to the next track!". The Beatles were brilliant, gifted musicians, but we are fortunate that it was George Martin that worked with them.
@joechill1 You can't argue with musical illiterates about the skill level of certain musicians, especially those of the past. For too many people, music just represents a pleasant diversion from the noises they typically hear in their heads. It's just GIGO for them and they don't have the capacity to analyze or think critically about it in any scholarly manner. To ask of them anything more would be too taxing for their intellects. It's no different for any other art form.
This is one of my favourite songs and one of spectors epic great productions. As well as the logic in the chord progression being amazing, the sound is phenomenal and captures the religous undertone of the song. Sure, it sounds like Ronnies not sure what she's singing about, but her voice is still brilliant. Compare this to Bowie's version, his voice is amazingly in sync with the song but the production sounds like a wash of noise rather than a constructed wall of sound (and built in stereo too)
@OropherThranduil George Martin is vastly overrated, due to the fact that he worked with the best band of all time. Phil and Brian both did it all themselves.
George Martin surely is not overrated the least bit.
he straightened the beatles rough edges, without him they would have sounded way to hard for their early image, he always found the right sound for them, his string arrangements were perfect, the way he used, yes, he was part of 4 superb musicians and a studio crew that redefined the way music was recorded, but he was an importnant part, a day in the life alone would make him a top 5 producer.
@OropherThranduil the point is, without The Beatles, you wouldn't know George Martin's name. His other work is pretty bland. Brian is self-made. Phil is definitely self-made. Curt Boettcher was even self-made.
Personally, i think that if George Martin was this great musical genius, he would've written a few more songs.
I think George Martin is a great producer, don't get me wrong. I just don't like that he's held up as this high genius or something
@JayMalone That's not the case at all. The Beatles as individuals are far from the best musicians. They are great, but Paul is in no way the best bass player or singer. George is a great guitarist but hardly the best. Granted, Ringo is the best drummer in the world. No wait..... What they were was the most charismatic band ever and George Martin took the songs they wrote and helped turn them into masterpieces. He was a big part of the reason they were the best band ever.
@standishbear You are very right. I believe most people can't appreciate Phil Spector's "depressed" productions. He didn't care if it was long and tedious, he just did it. The song is too out of reach for most. I don't see many comments like yours, people nowadays have lost the open mindedness and reject anyting that isn't easy to listen to. Glad to see other people who get it.
@pewmanfustudios Garbage you said? This song is not garbage at all. It's just that the song doesn't fit Ronnie's more upbeat style. Try listening to George Harrison's version: it's exactly the same (it even has the same vocal track, George only overdubbed his own vocals over Ronnie's) yet it sounds wonderful. It's not a bad song, just the wrong choice for the wrong performer (a mistake that George masterfuly corrected).
@begbieboy I've heard George's version and though it may have fit his style better, the song still isn't every good. Phil Spector purposely had Ronnie sing this and the awful flip side (Tandoori Chicken) knowing they sounded strange and weren't going anywhere. He had no intention of putting Ronnie back on the charts ever again.
It’s Christmas in August and my birthday…what more can I ask for! I Finished up recording the coolest Christmas tunes for the upcoming holiday season (can’t get here fast enough for me) and I even used real strings-it was magical!
When I figured nothing can top that – I find out that they’re releasing a Best of Apple Records which includes my ‘Trysome Buysome’ for the 1st time on CD and download.
In her autobigraphy, Ronnie Spector says that when she first heard George Harrison play this song for her, she thought it was terrible. She goes on to say that after hearing her finished recording that "The record stunk". She asked Harrison about a particular line in the song, saying that she didn't understand it. George replied "I don't either". Ronnie was right. It stinks.
Listen to George Harrison instead, he had the feeling, the nerve, the voice everything and he also wrote it ૐ,

This was produced by PHIL SPECTOR.
Have I missed something?
Great lyrics. Great production, good tune. Nice cover by Bowie.

@apikecalledmike
there are only 2 people who really mastered the wall of sound, Phil and my favorite, Brian Wilson, who gave it his own perfect and unique touch.

@OropherThranduil you should replace "the wall of sound" with "production"

Ronnie was right, the song is terrible. Her beautiful voice is very beautiful, but even she could not make this song sound less than mediocre.
