  • “Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well” -Atatürk

  • look how many DISLIKES -- WOW

  • Screw you British colonizers!

  • @Paxonist Oh god don't start this. Every part of this video has the comments section full of arguements, lets give ita rest.

  • @Paxonist

Who are you calling colonizers, if you Turkish you should leave the country as that was once a great Cristian city before the muslim hordes overrun it. Turkish murdered hundredds of thousands of Armanians, you are just as much a colonixer as anyone

  • What bull! egeseatr35 and the rest of you have ever been in battle. People fighting for the for homeland is highly overrated...and means nothing in war. Strategy, highland, resources and proximity to resources determines far more than this sophmoric notion that fighting for your homeland means anything...If so Hitler would have never lost....so lame. In my two wars not one muslim put up a hard fight for his homeland...so laughable.

  • @MrCharmingmanofwar There. A god-knows-who talking about how national feeling is not important... During that battle, Turkish "open-air museum" could not have stopped the Mighty Armada if not for their own patriacy.

  • The British soldiers knew only to fight for colonisation. The Turkish soldiers were fighting for their patriacy. No British soldier, in that moment, could know or measure the ability of Turkish patriots in that moment.

  • @egeseatr35 you have no idea my English brother ;)

    salamu alaykum,

  • @sayhello67 I am no English... Aleyküm selam :)

  • great grandfather fought here with 1st bn essex reg

  • Hamilton ordered the blokes to dig in and then was suprised he created a stalemate?? What a great tactician!!

  • I Do not want to be mean but I reckon that this documentary is made in order to show the "greatness" of Britishhood...

8:00; what shallow compliments are these heard for the British... and about the Suvla Bay, too much talking about the "success" and nothing about the soldiers lost by the ANZAC side in order for the later to be a complete surprise. I dare say that even nowadays British are fooling them selves and others that THEY were the ones that fought and the others were in auxiliary posts.

  • Again in 7:00 I want to add (paying full respect to the Australians and New Zealanders) that this is what happens when you just make war because you are told to and not because you have a grounded reason to involve your self to such a messy business. The historically uneducated residents of Australia and New Zealand were not in the position to handle the situation "clean" from sympathies sentiments and contestations which can plague men when stuck on a stalemate such as the trench warfare.

  • @hepafos look, almost every documentary at this time about WWI was to show the greatness of the hosting country. after the war, the survivors didn't want to hear it was fruitless (which it was) so the documentaries about the war were, on both sides, to the "greater glory of king and country"

  • @hepafos not quite true

i go to the university of manchester and do middle eastern history

we are specifically taught that the sacrifice of the Anzac troops was what defined australian nationalism at that time punctuated by the mel gibson film gallipoli

    britain isnt an ostentatious place

we know when we screw up and we did big time here

  • @n17spurs ...are you trying to imply that the usage of the ANZAC corps as a diverse, resulting in an unnecessary bloodbath since the landing didnot produced much because of HQ and field officers incompetence, is something the Australians must be proud and thank the British commanders for?......

  • @n17spurs ...The fact that you meticulously examine and analyze your "screw ups", us you said, I agree. Nevertheless, I was stressing the fact that you gracefully propagate the halftruth and do not lose the chance to "remind" the wars "British" won for Humanity...if you know what I mean that is.

  • @hepafos

    brits and humanity?

  • @schwanzinmundkopf ...not exactly. Read it again. I am stressing the fact that world powers do not lose the chance to celebrate their repressive and unpopular polices as mandatory acts against "barbarism" & the "the reactionary forces" (sic) that threaten the prosperity of mankind... all in all a shining garment for a sick and filthy body.
